Cafes in Taiwan were relatively more expensive compared to local food options, and since we were no longer young with huge appetites anymore, we only managed to visit 4 cafes during this short 4-day trip.
Note that you are expected to order at least one drink per person or there could be a minimum expenditure per person required at the cafes.
Given the extensive cheap local foods available, we may well end up visiting less cafes in future in Taiwan,
吃咖 Chikafe
We reached here about 45 minutes before closing, and only 3 types of cakes were left, so we tried the 酸奶起司蛋糕 Yoghurt Cheesecake, 法芙娜可可起司蛋糕(黑蘭姆) Valrhona Chocolate and Rum Cheesecake, and 3 drinks.
Cakes were pretty good, and the rum flavour complemented the chocolate cake well.
We had seats at the second floor and it was a pretty lovely space to hang out, and the staff didn’t rush us to finish our drinks. There was going to be an event the next day so the space was decorated with photos of the Korean star!
This turned out to be our most pricey meal (NT760) during the trip though.

咖啡帶 The Coffee Belt
We found this little cafe nearby after our visit to 艋舺龍山寺 Bangka Longshan Temple. We tried the 拿鐵咖啡 Cafe Latte, 冰柠檬咖啡 Lemon Iced Coffee and 咖啡楪茶 Coffee Leaf Tea.
This was my first time trying tea made from coffee tea, and it had an earthy/herbal taste. Certainly very different from the usual teas that I drink, but I enjoyed it very much! The coffee khakis also enjoyed their coffee, so we were three happy folks 🙂

The owner was a very good photographer and the walls were filled with the lovely pictures that he took in various parts of Taiwan. He was also very friendly and we had a great time chatting with him. He was most generous in sharing about some of the places he had visited, and also encouraged us to try out the shops selling oysters, 刈包 and shaved ice around the area. Apparently this was a foodie area which we did not know of despite having been to Taiwan so many times.
We spent NT410 in total for 3 persons.

豆花森 Bean Forest
Ms H introduced us to this place where we could mix and match the different ingredients for 豆花 Beancurd Tofu and 仙草 Grass Jelly. There were plenty of ingredients to choose from, and I really enjoyed the yam toppings here.
It was a lovely place to chill and catch up, and we had a great time here exchanging gossips. 🙂 We spent NT170 here for 3 bowls of yummy treats.

彼得好咖啡(南門店)Peter Better Cafe
We initially only wanted drinks (after gorging 3 pork buns across the road), but this Red Bean with Peanut Butter Panini (NT70) looked too interesting to miss it. We were very glad we ordered it!
The red beans were not the smooth paste-type, and added texture to each bite where you could really have a good bite. The overall combination was sweet and savory, and rather irresistible.
The 拿鐵咖啡 Lattes (NT70 each) were pretty decent (wasn’t expecting latte art from a coffee chain), but I was less impressed with the 海鹽焦糖鲜奶茶 Sea Salt Caramel Milk Tea (NT70) which was way sweeter than salty and tasted more like lightly flavoured milk.
