Thanks to Starhub, we had a 1-for-1 voucher, and decided to try out Takujo at Emporium Shokuhin, serving contemporary Japanese cuisine.
Emporium Shokuhin is this huge area in Marina Square ground floor that has a collection of fresh fish market (with fresh lobster from Hokkaido!), frozen meat market, groceries, and many restaurants all congregating together.
The restaurant was surprising quiet at 6:45pm on a Friday night (maybe the price put off many people). Even when we finished around 8:30pm, there were only 4-5 tables full.
Since it was 1-for-1, we opted for the Takujo 8-course Signature Dinner Set ($128++), where we would get to try both grilled fish options 🙂
The menu was surprisingly in English only though.
We had made reservations via Chope after seeing the menu on the Chope website, but it turned out that the restaurant had already updated their menu quite a while ago 😦
Nonetheless, we decided try out some of the food, since we were here already (plus we were hungryyyyyyyy):
- 极品和牛包 Goubuli Buns with Wagyu Filling ($3.90++ per piece): This was served cold. What a waste of the beef!! 😦 Utter disappointment for what was meant to be the highlight of the restaurant.
- 三鲜猪肉包 Goubuli Buns with Pork and Seafood Filling ($3++ per piece): Served lukewarm, this was definitely better than the Wagyu version. Still, we have had better buns before.
- 口水鸡 Steamed Chicken with Szechuan Chilli Oil ($14.80++): Only 1-chilli rating, but it was definitely too spicy for us, haha!
- 脆皮烧肉拼叉烧 Crackling Pork Belly & Honey Glazed Barbecued Pork ($32++ for small): The pork belly skin was really crispy, and indeed crackling when we bit into it, and the meat was quite tender. The barbecued pork paled in comparison, but was still not bad.
- 咸鱼茄子豆腐煲 Eggplants and Tofu in Salted Fish Sauce ($22++ for small): The pot of aromatic goodness was pretty addictive, without being overly salty.
- 天津栗子鸡煲 Tianjin Style Claypot Stewed Chicken with Chestnuts ($22++ for small): This was pretty average.
Overall, we thought it was rather pricey, and very disappointing that the buns were so below standard.

After our sumptuous brunch, we went to stroll off the calories and eventually ended up at Tiramisu Hero. It looked like it was going to rain soon, so that was the perfect excuse for us to enter the cafe 😛
This was a cosy little cafe with cutesy decorations, and Sir Antonio, the cafe’s mascot, was really cute too 🙂
Once we were comfortably seated, we got ourselves Belgian Waffles ($7), and the original MommaHero ($7.50) tiramisu.
It was really pleasant that they took note of our special request to put the honey by the side and to skip the icing. We loved the waffles that was crispy on the outside, and fluffy on the inside!
In fact, we preferred the waffles to the tiramisu, as the ladyfingers were a bit dry, and the overall taste was a tad too sweet for our liking. Hubby also had a Caffe Latte ($5.50), which he thought was pretty alright.
We visited the Japan Rail Cafe in December 2016, and had return a few more times ever since!
This place aims to be a one-stop station, where customers can enjoy not only food and drinks (with monthly specials focusing on selected regions in Japan), but also do some quick shopping at the small retail section, as well as obtain travel information and purchase Japan Rail Pass (JR Pass) at the Rail Pass Counter.
It was particularly interesting to revisit, because of the monthly changes (Dec 2016 was on the Tohoku region), and we also enjoyed reading about the various Japan regions in the newsletter, that also served as a menu.
Free WiFi was also available, so we could do some quick browsing on the spot whenever we found something of interest, and wanted to find out more.

We got lost trying to figure out how to reach this place because the shop front was actually Hua Bee Restaurant, a mee pok stall (This coffee shop was the set for Eric Khoo’s 1995 movie, Mee Pok Man.), heh *confused*
We actually passed by this place when we went for Tiong Bahru Heritage Trail but didn’t went in to try.
It was fairly quiet during lunch time on a Saturday, and I decided on the Wagyu Roast Beef Don set, while hubby could not resist ordering Whole Chicken Leg and Cheese Curry Katsu set. Each set comes with appetizers, salad, pickles, karaage, soup and dessert.
How should we describe this?
We liked every single item and wiped everything clean! The meats were cooked to perfection, and there was always something magical about egg yolk mixing with beef slices and rice…. YUMS! There was a choice of mochi or sesame ice cream for dessert, which worked well for me, haha 😛
Since we had only shared a bowl of tendon earlier, we figured we could check out redpan on the same day too, since it was a fairly short walk from Suntec City to Marina Square.
A brainchild of DP Architects x GRUB, redpan serves interesting dishes paired with local flavours, and we had a hard time deciding which ones to try. We ended up with:
- Grilled Kingfish Collar ($19++): We usually eat our stingray with chinchalok chilli, and were pleased that this chilli went well with the Kingfish Collar that was grilled to perfection. With crisp skin and tender flesh, this was super addictive!
- Beef Short Rib ‘Satay’ ($32++): The beef short rib came with satay sauce, pickled cucumber & onions, and it was oh-so-tender!
- Lychee Earl Grey Iced Tea ($5++): We could definitely taste the lychee, but less so of the earl grey flavour. Still a refreshing drink though!
We were served by a lovely staff today, and service was excellent! It was a great dinner to end our evening 🙂
Keppel Club certainly brought back much memories for us 🙂
From VivoCity, we took a 30-minute stroll into Keppel Club… It was a fairly long walk in!
Since we had already tried Peony Jade a couple of times before, we wanted to check out PeraMakan this time.
Being a Monday, it was a really quiet day, and we had seats by the windows.
We enjoyed each dish, and like that the flavours were very balanced, without being overly spicy or sweet. We also liked the crackers that was served as appetiser.
Since we were hardly in this area, we figured that we should check out the far end of Sentosa too!
We read that there were a lot of good food here, and indeed, there were many stalls with snaking queues on this Sunday noon time. After surveying the place, we decided to try out 2 of the stalls.
We were just exploring this area and found this little local bakery with just 3 tables, but more than 10 kinds of cakes available!
Upon recommendations, we decided to share a baked Jasmine-Yuzu Cheesecake ($6.50), for we wanted something light. We also got ourselves a Flat White ($4.50) and a Tea Wands Chai Masala ($4.50, refillable once).
The unassuming cheesecake was full of delicate jasmine and yuzu fragrance that lingered on after our first bites! The rare jasmine cheese mousse was very light with yuzu bits at the lower half of the cake, and jasmine jelly was sweet and refreshing. The savoury base crust complemented the flavours well. Oooohhh, we were so tempted to have another one!
The tea wand is a clever tea bag that works as a stirrer too! The tea itself was not bad. The coffee was alright.
This place is located in a sleepy HDB neighbourhood, and it was a lovely place for us to just chillax and chit chat. They also offer baking and decorating workshops.
