Ollie Cafe @Orchard

After a satisfying dinner, it was time for drinks! We decided to try out this small little cafe at Orchard Gateway. We were promptly seated and served with iced water, good service for a change!

I had the Chocolate Chip Chai ($6.80), while hubby had the Carrot Cake with Flat White set ($9.90, carrot cake/cheesecake/flourless chocolate cake with choice of coffee, 3pm to 9pm).

The tea smelt chocolatey but definitely tasted like a light Chai tea, haha! Hubby was quite satisfied with his flat white, despite the lack of beautiful latte art, as it was quite aromatic, smooth with a slight nutty taste. The cake was cute with a icing carrot right at the top, but the taste was so-so, we much preferred the drinks 🙂

The iced water was topped up regularly by the staff, which we really appreciated! This is a nice corner stop for tired shoppers to take a break and watch other busy shoppers busy by!

Tokyo Pasta Mario & Monster Curry @Orchard

My brother strongly recommended this stall to us, so here we were, our very first time eating at the food court of 313 Somerset!

I decided to try my brother’s favourite, Mushroom & Bacon Miso Cream with Onsen Egg Topping Pasta ($6.80) (actually he told me to add an extra onsen egg for $1 for extra kick, but I was worried about being disappointed with the egg), while hubby decided to try the Chicken Katsu Curry ($9.80) with a side of Pork Katsu ($3), after realising that he probably couldn’t finish the Monster Combo Curry ($21) when he saw it at someone else’s table, haha!

Hubby placed the order at the counter and returned with a round buzzer. Since this stall had quite a lot of patrons in this relatively empty food court, we had high hopes! 😀 We waited less than 10 minutes for the food to be ready 🙂

The pasta was really quite good for this price! Creamy but not overly heavy, the Onsen egg blended perfectly with the sauce, though perhaps it would be better with an extra egg. The pasta itself was quite firm and springy… I polished off the pasta real quickly :p

The default curry was level 1 hot, and it was of the right degree of heat for hubby, i.e. not very hot :p We preferred the pork to chicken Katsu, as the chicken version was very flat with a too high ratio of batter to meat. But we still enjoyed our meal very much 🙂

Loysel’s Toy @Bugis

Happy 2015!!

After a long stay at home (yeah been sick for @ very long time), we are finally out of the house again!

Worst poached eggs ever

Worst poached eggs ever

Since I have to collect my new passport, we decided to have breakfast at the Bugis area 🙂 We heard that the coffee at Loysel’s Toy is pretty good, but the food is less so, hence we decided to share the Big L Breakfast ($17), a Strawberry Rhubarb Teacake ($3.30), while hubby has his Flat White ($4.50).

We had the worst poached eggs ever, where the first liquid that oozed out of the eggs were not runny, but uncooked egg white… Yucks! There were also not much egg yolk to speak off, making this really not value-for-money. The teacake was quite dry as well.

Luckily, the coffee was quite nice, as it was smooth and aromatic, hence the trip was not completely wasted. There were newspapers available, so we spent about an hour here, relaxing and catching up on the n ews.

Note: There was no GST or service charge included in the bill.
