We were caught in the rain after lunch!
While taking shelter under a not-very-big canopy, we FourSquare-d for cafes near us so that we could rest the rain away, and picked 微客棧-人文空間 Waker Coffee!
This cafe is opened by a social enterprise, 微客國際服務團隊 Waker Group of Taiwan who focuses on child education around the world as their cause. This cafe was opened as part of a gathering point for their volunteers as well as a retail outlet for their handicrafts. Their HQ is located just above the cafe. 🙂
Apparently they had just opened for an hour or so, and there were no other customers. So we occupied the sofa and made ourselves comfortable.
I ordered a 原味拿鐵 Latte (NT120) while wifey got herself a 紅玉紅茶 Hongyu Black Tea (NT150). We were enjoying the cosy-ness of the cafe and I was almost dozing off while wifey was enjoying reading a comic that she found on the bookshelf when the boss surprised us with a free waffle!
You see, we had initially wanted to order a waffle but put it off because we had quite a bit of lunch. Surprisingly the cafe was baking their first batch of batter and they offered the first piece to us (and another customer in the cafe)!
The boss explained that to ensure quality and consistency they often do not serve/sell their first piece of waffle; they have been offering their first pieces to neighbouring kids for the past few days. Since we were the only customers, they had wanted to solicit our feedback on the batter so they offered us the complimentary waffle!
The waffles was in a special flower shape and the petals provided spaces for fillings like tuna and corn, ham and cheese etc. It was aromatic and soft which complemented the coffee and tea perfectly! What a great way to enjoy our afternoon!
