Hoshino Coffee 星乃珈琲店 @Plaza Singapura

Hoshino Cofee

Hoshino Cofee

I was around the Dhoby Ghaut region (for a reason no one would be interested to know) and since we have seen long long queues at this cafe, I thought of giving it a try!

Everyone knows that when you come to Plaza Singapura, there’s always queues. The longest (used to anyway, not sure if it still is) is Tim Ho Wan (cheapest Michelin 1-Star dim sum shop). Then there is Tsukada Nojo (chicken collagen hot pot called Bijin Nabe 美人鍋). And then there is Hoshino Coffee.

The decor is very classic and European-like, with dark wood furniture and dim lighting to give that warm and homely feel. Waitresses were attentive (when there is few customers) but could not really handle when the crowd started to swell…

Since I was here at 11:30am when it just opened its doors, I was able to get a seat relatively easily (the seats were quickly taken up around 12pm when the lunch crowd started to stream in). But also because it was only 11:30am, I was not really hungry for lunch (had heavy breakfast), so I flipped through the menu and decided to swap my lunch with tea-break for today!

Famous Souffle Pancake

Famous Souffle Pancake

I ordered the famous Pancake Souffle (S$9.80) and a cup of Hoshino Hand-dripped Coffee (S$2.90 with any main course), which is what they specialized in. The pancake took >30 mins to arrive while I slowly sipped my coffee and wondered why I did not order that gorgeous plate of pasta on my right or that mouth-dripping plate of curry rice on my left…

When it finally arrived, I was greeted with a generously thick piece of pancake with a whipped butter on top and a cup of maple syrup to go with it. Being already very sweet myself *thick-skin mode ON* I did not touch the syrup but spread only the butter over the pancake.

The interior of the pancake was fluffy and the savoury butter fused itself very well with the souffle-y texture of the pancake. Though it looked hard on the outside, the crust was actually very very soft and was easily cut with the knife. It was a mouthful of bliss, especially when you savour it with a sip of coffee…
