There are two very popular places for ice cream along the same stretch of Chip Bee Garden, namely The Sunday Folks and The Daily Scoop. We walked past an empty The Daily Scoop around 13:30, only to realise that this place is opened from 14:00. A few shops ahead, there was a rather long queue at Sunday Folks! Anyway, our destination was Phoon Huat, so we happily whisked past the crowd queuing in the rather hot and humid weather, and entered the air-conditioned Phoon Huat in bliss.
Well, there was only that much we could shop in Phoon Huat, and 20 minutes later, we left with our purchases. Pretty nice timing for some delicious waffles at The Daily Scoop!
We were beaten in the queue by 2 children, who had been chanting “why is it not opened” for we-dunno-how-long 😮 Within the next couple of minutes, more people joined in the queue, and when Daily Scoop opened its doors at 14:00, all the tables were taken up in a matter of seconds, with another crowd going straight to the counter to place their orders 😮 Is this normal??
Thankfully, the counter queue cleared rather fast, while we were contemplating our ice cream flavour. So we had a Waffle with Lychee Martini Ice Cream ($6.50), and a Flat White ($2.80).
The very affordable coffee implies that it was pretty much the rather standard fare, but the crowds were not here for coffee. Not too sure if we tasted any martini, but the very refreshing lychee flavour was a total perk-me-up!
While the ice cream was absolutely delicious, this place had quite an echo-ey environment, and it got too noisy for us to linger for too long.
