Paramount Coffee Project @Surry Hills, Sydney

2016-08-17-10-01-06We decided to check out this popular cafe at Surry Hills that was a short walk away from our apartment.

Located in Paramount House, this was a relatively spacious cafe with high ceiling in an open concept; one can walk through the cafe and straight to other parts of the building. We felt very relaxed here!

After last night’s experience, I took a closer look at the drinks selection and was happy to find that there was also a rather wide range of tea selections and other non-coffee options here.

Since we already had pre-breakfast, we decided to share a main dish 🙂

Harry’s Cafe de Wheels @Hay Street, Sydney

We chanced upon the popular Harry’s (which was just around the corner of our apartment) while trying to figure our way to breakfast and decided that we needed pre-breakfast, hahaha 😛

Of course, we ordered their signature pie, Tiger (A$7.60), named after the founder Harry ‘Tiger’ Edwards. This was a chunky lean beef pie served with mushy peas, mash & gravy in distinct layers.

We thought that the pie itself was alright, but the mushy peas and mash were really delicious and we totally enjoyed this legendary dish from Sydney!

My Sweet Memory @George Street, Sydney

2016-08-16-19-26-15We chanced upon this part cafe, part stationery shop, that was still opened at night (most cafes in Sydney closed at 4-5pm), and decided to have our after-meal drinks here!

It was a fairly quiet night, and there were a few students studying hard here.

There was a special cake set special for any cakes (usual price A$8) and a drink, so we settled for a Flat White (usual price A$3.50 for regular), Matcha Latte (A$4.50 for regular), and the best-seller Nutella & Oreo Cheesecake (because it looked so cute).

The flat white was bitter and strong. I had a sugar shock when I took the first sip of my matcha latte, and took a few more sips before the matcha bitterness floated up to my taste buds.

The cheesecake in a cup was a good balance of sweet and saltiness. We were pleasantly surprised that it was not very sweet, given its name. And of course, the matcha latte did not taste sweet anymore after eating the cheesecake, haha!

This place also sells a variety of cute stationery near the order counter. Overall, an interesting and cosy cafe to chill out.

Chat Thai @Campbell Street, Sydney

2016-08-16-17-32-42Ms I had recommended that we check out this very popular Thai restaurant.

So after we had settled down in our ultra lovely apartment in Meriton Campbell, we strolled to Chat Thai, which was right next door, thinking that it was still rather early. Erm, apparently at 5pm, we were not early enough, haha!

After some confusion, a friendly customer directed us to tear off the number on a sheet at the entrance, which turned out to be the queue number. You could also leave your name and phone number, but based on what we saw, if you were not waiting nearby when they called your queue number, they would just move on to the next number 😛

Melbourne 2016 Itinerary

2016-08-11-12-08-51

We finally made it to Australia!

This was our mostly unplanned itinerary for our recent trip to Melbourne and Sydney, as our main aim was to visit our friends in the 2 cities.

Each day, we would google for what looked interesting. Some days, a spur-of-the-moment thought or a sudden craving might make us decide to walk 30 minutes to go in search of it.

We were blessed with nice weather in Melbourne throughout our stay and there wasn’t any raining while we were there, save for the slight drizzle while we were on the Great Ocean Road.
