Fosters @Holland Village

Devonshire Cream Tea Set

Devonshire Cream Tea Set

Wifey was in London for a work trip so I was all alone in search of food in Holland Village. Since the time was just right for afternoon tea, I decided to visit Fosters, an Engligh Rose Cafe (which is also a steak restaurant for lunch and dinner) again for its very affordable Devonshire Cream Tea Set ($11.50)!

The set comes with a pair of freshly-baked scones served with butter, home-made strawberry preserve and cream, fruit cake, finger sandwiches and a choice of a pot of coffee or tea, which of course I opted for Cafe Latte instead.

The scones on itself were already heavenly and its taste was leveled up with the clotted cream! Baked freshly everyday at 3pm, the scones were crispy on the outside and soft and light on the inside which did not give a very heavy feeling, especially when there were two to go with.

Definitely recommended if you are in the vicinity, and at the right time!

Chock Full of Beans @Changi Village

Lay-back style

Lay-back style

Being out in the ulu-ness of Changi Village meant that we finally got the chance to try out Chock Full of Beans!

Spongebob Latte Art

Spongebob Latte Art

Apparently the latte art here is very good! So hubby ordered a regular Cafe Latte ($4.50), while I decided to go for a Iced Earl Grey flavoured with Rose Grapefruit ($7).

Hubby got a spongebob latte art! It was so cute, he was reluctant to drink his latte… Haha! The coffee, while smooth, was lacking in strength. I couldn’t really taste the earl grey too, but the drink was quite nice overall.

With 7% GST but no service charge.

The Bark Cafe @Upper Changi

Iced and Hot

Iced and Hot

We wanted to go to the Changi Museum, but decided to pop by for some coffee and snacks at the Bark Cafe first, which is just beside the museum 😀

Hubby had a Iced Cafe Latte (~$5) while I decided to try the Bark’s Honey Lemon ($4.50)… yes, feeling a bit under the weather right at the start of our holiday 😦 That did not stop us from ordering the Bark Cafe’s Specialty Chicken Wing ($8.90 for 3) and the Smoked Duck Mini Burger ($16.90) to share.

The drinks were alright, but I thought it was a rather expensive tiny cup of Honey Lemon for that kind of price…

Bark Cafe’s Specialty Chicken Wing

Food-wise, we enjoyed the crispy chicken wings, and the sliders were pretty much standard fare.

We liked the quietness of the place though, and it was a nice little place to hang out during the late afternoon, when the weather was fine, as it was all alfresco dining, so it could get pretty hot.

Lola’s Cafe @Serangoon

Small but busy place!

Small but busy place!

We started our staycation holiday with a good breakfast at Kovan, in part to break up our journey to Changi Village, in part to fulfill our previous disappointment of not getting a seat in this popular cafe. Changi Village is really really far you know…

We reached around 10.30am and managed to get a table!

Full Monty Breakfast

Full Monty Breakfast

The Cafe Latte ($5) and Chai Tea Latte ($5) were not too bad, while the Full Monty Breakfast ($15) and Avocado Eggs Benedict ($15) were delicious!

We especially enjoyed the eggs benedict that was done just right, with the runny egg yolk oozing out as we cut into it… It was oh-so-yummy!

With a full breakfast, we were ready for the rest of the day 🙂

Symmetry Cafe @Jalan Kubor (again)

Iced Tea

Iced Tea

Latte as usual

Latte as usual

We made reservations for Sunday 9am… It was an early brunch 🙂 We had wanted to return here to try the food after a lovely night out previously.

We arrived at 9am sharp and were the first customers… And remained as the only customers for the next 30min or so. The kitchen only starts at 9.30am, so we had plenty of time to browse the menu.

[closed] ReStore @Tanjong Pagar

Note: ReStore has ceased operations at this location.

A cafe and a furniture shop!

A cafe and a furniture shop!

We were milling around the area and discovered a still-open cafe nearby! At first glance, ReStore looked more like a furniture shop than cafe 🙂 Turned out that they do serve waffles, coffee and tea, as well as restored furniture!

This little space was filled with tables and chairs of various sizes and styles, with an additional row of chairs hanging by the walls. Seemed slightly cluttered and a little squeezy, and I didn’t feel particularly safe sitting under the chairs, but it was quite empty when we reached, so we managed to find a nice spot to chill. It was a Berry Good Waffles ($9.80), Skinny Latte ($5) and Straits Chai Tea ($5) for us 🙂

The Sunday Market @Serangoon

Sunday Market

Sunday Market

We had originally wanted to visit this place before we got sidetracked and went to C.A.N Cafe instead, so here we are today to try it out!

The decoration was rather rustic with simple chairs and tables (and simple toilet).

The menu was rather strange and n the sense that some teas were listed under “caffeine addicts”, while others were listed under “tea”, so I guess Earl Grey does not contain much caffeine? Anyway, I opted for the Chai Latte ($5) instead of the Thai milk tea ($7) because the former was hot while the latter was cold. Hubby went along with his usual Skinny Latte ($5).

(working title) @Arab Street

Its a cafe cum hostel

Its a cafe cum hostel

It is a special day today! It almost became ultra-special when the both of us were feeling a little under the weather and almost couldn’t go for our date 😨

Anyway, we decided that we would go ahead with our dinner plans and just chill prior to that. So we were actually chilling out at the National Library, trying to browse some books for the upcoming trip (Ok, maybe not that chill…) when we decided to go and really chill at some nearby cafe.

That was when I remembered this Sugar app and yippee! I bought my first item on Sugar – $2 cafe latte at (working title), and that was how we ended up here.

That was also how we realised that there were really many, many cafés in this area, with more being renovated and coming soon 😱

The Assembly Ground @The Cathay

We decided to pop by The Cathay to have some coffee after dinner. Hubby was keen to try out The Assembly Ground but there weren’t any seats available, so we left our contacts on the waiting list and went to explore the mall, as we were told that it would be a 45-minute wait.

Through this little exploration, we found this mall to be rather “healthy”… Vending machines for cups of fruits or freshly squeezed orange juice, anyone? It’s really fresh, because we got to see the unpeeled oranges make their move after someone fed the machine some notes! Wow!

There was no call from The Assembly Ground after we were done exploring the entire mall, so we decided to return back to check the queue. To our shock, we saw the staff welcoming people inside with obviously no reservations whatsoever! So I quickly enquired about the waiting list, and she took out a list where only less than half the names were crossed out. She explained in a rather apologetic manner that the kitchen was already closed and there were only drinks and cakes available. That was fine with us since we only wanted drinks, but I was rather displeased because whoever the staff in charge of the waiting list could have called up to inform about the available seats and whether we would still want to go over when the kitchen has closed, or at the point of us leaving our contacts, could have told us that the kitchen would be closing shortly and if we still want to be on the waiting list? That would have been sufficient information for us to decide if we wanted to hang around, or look for something else. Bad first impressions for us! 😦

The Little Prince Creamery @Toa Payoh

Beautiful decorations

Beautiful decorations

Happy couple!

Happy couple!

Kettle-hunting led us to Toa Payoh and we decided to nua somewhere to rest our aching arms and legs… It is hard work trying to prepare for renovations! Ok, this is just an excuse for us to try out another cafe, though my arms are really aching…

We really liked the decorations of this place. Painstakingly drawn by marker pens, even the floors had the parquet floor design! All the tables and chairs had marker-drawn edges. We also liked the staircase that seemingly led to this “second floor” and there was another staircase from the “first floor” at their Little Prince Cafe at Somme Road, thus having this special connection between the 2 places! This black-and-white space really make us felt like we were in another world 🙂 Continue reading
