We last went to Penang back in 2011, where we literally ate our stay away.
This time, we thought that we should try to do things a little differently, though we somehow ended up back at the same places because the food were just so good!
We also tried some new places, with mixed reviews.
Here is our short 3 day 2 night itinerary:
Day 1 (16 Apr 2016) – Arrived in Penang with Airasia flight AK752 at 3pm. Flight touched down ahead of schedule! Took Rapid Penang Bus 401E to Komtar Bus Terminal (RM2.70 per person) and made our way to Chulia Street, grabbing a bite at Cintra Food Corner. Rested at hotel before going to the 1980’s Party at the rooftop, followed by our real dinner at the food court and night market.
Day 2 (17 Apr 2016) – Dim sum breakfast at Tai Tong Restoran, checked out the street art, coffee break at The Black Kettle, lunch at Food Gallery, durian at Ah Teik Durian Stall, more lunch at Tong Seng Restoran, and dessert at Teochew Chendul. Back to hotel to rest. Checked out Chulia Street night market but decided to have dinner at Little India. Figured we should give Sri Ananda Bahwan a chance, and decided not to go back to Woodlands. Went to the rooftop for drinks before calling it a day.
Day 3 (18 Apr 2016) – Breakfast at hotel, checked out more street art, coffee break at Cafe 55, back to hotel to check out. Lunch at Trois Canon Cafe, roamed around to find food souvenirs, break at Ming Xiang Tai Pastry Shop and Coffee on the Table. Caught the 4.45pm Rapid Penang Bus AT (Airport Transit) from Weld Quay to the airport (RM2.70 per person). It took 10min to reach Komtar Bus Terminal, and the bus stopped at Lane 3 (so we could have waited here instead of Weld Quay). It took us another hour to reach Penang International Airport. We were so early we had dinner at 2 places before checking-in. Flight AK757 departed slightly delayed and we reached Changi Airport around 10:20pm.
Useful Links:
- Rapid Penang Bus – The public transport bus on Penang which can get you to everywhere. Prepare exact amount for the bus rides because they do not give change on the bus. There’s also a CAT bus by Rapid Penang that is free and goes around George Town stopping at many places of interests. There are a few buses at Weld Quay that go to the airport; check with the counter staff to see which one will depart first.
- Penang Travel Tips – This is a website that has so much information about Penang it’s close to becoming the bible of Penang! We had used this website extensively when we were researching for what to eat and where to go in Penang.
- Chulia Mansion Hotel – A no-frills hotel on Chulia Street, Chulia Mansion provides clean rooms and is very near to many attractions in the heart of George Town.
