正宗万里香沙爹朱律 Restaurant Ban Lee Siang Satay Celup @Melaka, Malaysia

Another of our favourite foods when visiting Melaka would be satay celup. We recalled visiting here during our maiden trip to Melaka together, and thought to re-visit this place. It was fun dipping into the think satay sauce to cook our food and we enjoyed the variety of skewers available here.

Putu Piring Melaka @Melaka, Malaysia

This was a simple, no-frills shop but the queue was oh-wow!

We came here for a pre-dinner snack and were satisfied by the freshly made putu piring. Best eaten while still warm, we basically found an empty spot next to the shop and wiped out the putu piring, LOL! The gula melaka filling was very fragrant!

我家厨房 Our Kitchen Nyonya Restaurant @Melaka, Malaysia

We are always on the lookout for Peranakan food whenever we are in Melaka. This place seemed a little quiet so we were initially quite apprehensive. However, after trying the Rendang Chicken, Chinchalok Omelette, Ngo Hiang and Belacan Winged Beans, we were very satisfied 🙂 [Total expense RM47.50]

东方茶餐室 Kedai Kopi & Makanan Oriental Cafe & 香薄饼食家 Poh Piah Lwee @Melaka, Malaysia

We went to the nearby Kedai Kopi & Makanan Oriental Cafe 东方茶餐室 for breakfast and tried 鱼胶面 Fish Dumpling Noodles (RM5) and 薄饼 Poh Piah (RM3). The noodles in the light broth was nice and the fishballs were bouncy and yummy! however, there was no fish dumpling….

Not too far away was 香薄饼食家 Poh Piah Lwee where we had Poh Piah (RM3) and Laksa with mix of noodles and bee hoon (RM5). Both were satisfying too 🙂 This place seemed to be popular for Nyonya rice dumplings too, but we were too full to try.

Hong Sheng WTM 鸿昇云吞面 @Melaka, Malaysia

After movie, we went to Hong Sheng Wanton Noodles 鸿昇云吞面. It was crowded at 8.30pm and we had to wait a while for seats.

We ordered 3 small bowls of Wanton Noodles (RM5, RM5.50, RM6 for small, medium and large). There was a signage that indicated we should order first before finding seats, but we did not as we were worried it might take a while to get seats…

We later realised that a good gauge could be to see how many bowls were stacked up as orders waiting to be filled. The noodles felt traditional and homely, giving this 古早味 feel. There was a slight alkaline taste to the noodles, which could be covered by adding chili sauce.

Restoran Kuang Fei & Tong Kee Bak Kut Teh @Tangkak, Johor, Malaysia

Our next stop was Tangkak as Dr K wanted to buy some tau sar piah. Conveniently along the same street, there were 2 eateries that looked very popular.

Our first lunch stop was Restoran Kuang Fei, famous for Tangkak beef noodles. We shared the Beef Noodles (RM8 for small, RM9 for big, RM12 for additional ingredients). The small portion was quite little, but the soup was awesome! While the beef was not very tender, we thought it was flavourful with a good bite.

YamCha Hong Kong Dim Sum @Johor Bahru, Malaysia

Our first stop was breakfast at YamCha Hong Kong Dim Sum, where we tried Pan-fried pork bun 菜肉香味生煎包, ChaoZhou Mai 潮州烧卖, Chives Bean Curd Skin 韭菜腐皮饼, Coriander Siew Mai 香茜菜, Crystal shrimp ball 水晶虾球 and 三大民族, which was a mix of 3 different teas (甘草菊普) (Total RM34.50).

We thought the dim sum tasted quite different from the ones we usually have. In general, they were more meaty with barely a hint of the vegetables. We prefer this dim sum place to the one that we tried previously. In particular, we enjoyed the ChaoZhou Mai and Chives Beancurd Skin.
