Arbite @Serangoon Gardens

White Ginger Lily Tea

White Ginger Lily Tea

It was a brunch meet up with my girlfriends, while hubby went for his latte fix elsewhere. It was my second time here!

Today, we shared an Arbite Breakfast ($17) and Apple Strudel Pancakes ($14), and I decided on a White Ginger Lily Tea ($6). For desserts, it was Gula Meleka Tiramisu ($8) and My Wife’s Chocolate Cake ($8).

The little one had some strawberry pancakes and  milkshake, but she was really more engrossed with the bottles of lego pieces available in the cafe 😀

Woo, the scrambled eggs and spicy sausage of the breakfast set really stood out! The pancakes were also fluffy and delicious, and we were 3 happy women. We could not quite taste the gula meleka in the tiramisu, but I preferred the light and fluffy tiramisu to the very chocolatey cake.

Cafe Hopping @Everton Park

So I took a one-day leave and ventured all the way to the East for Sitex 2014. Nothing much to see, but I managed to buy a pair of Timberlands from Timberlands Outlet sale in another hall. Haha…

So while waiting for wifey to end work, I travelled all the way from the East to Everton Park. This area has grown to include many of the artisan cafes that Singaporeans flock to. And with The Pinnacle@Duxton just opposite the road, you can be sure that there’s bound to be huge patronage. But most of them closes quite early, around 6-7pm so it was quite a challenge for us to try them out, since we stopped work at 6pm.

Bread and Hearth @Keong Siak Street

After dinner indulgence

After dinner indulgence

We had a hard time trying to find a cafe on a Monday night… This was our 3rd attempt tonight!

Bread and Hearth is a small little bakery, specializing in handcrafted artisan bread, where every bread and pastry is baked using traditional European methods.

We didn’t had any bread though, but the Latte ($5) and Gryphon Straits Chai Tea ($4.50) were great! We did try the Raisin Roll ($2.80), as there was a current promotion of coffee and any $2.80 bread for $6.90. We enjoyed the rasin roll too!

We loved the relaxed atmosphere, with lovely music and 3 couples having their own quiet moments 🙂

Note that there is a current UOB credit card promotion, 10% off total bill.

Yellow Cup Coffee @Central Square

Happy couple!

Happy couple!

We had just finished our dim sum lunch at Luk Yu (after wifey had her event), and was hunting around for coffee and relaxation. As usual, our trusty FourSquare app listed quite a  number of cafes around this area. Wanting to try something new, we walked away from the usual Duxton area instead and chanced upon Yellow Cup Coffee.

This is a unique cafe with 4 branches around the island. The uniqueness lies in that all their cups were, of course, yellow! The deco at this Central Sqaure branch is very simple, with a few large tables inside and a couple of alfresco tables. Coffee counter is a long bench with coffee machine and cake fridge and simple kitchen equipment sufficient to make breakfast items, which they also offers, besides freshly brewed coffee and artisan breads and pastry.

Strangers’ Reunion @Duxton

Cafe Latte, as usual

Cafe Latte, as usual

Wifey was in town for meeting so we decided to look around SGH for dinner!

Met up with her at SGH and walked out towards Neil Road. Whip out my iPhone and Strangers’ Reunion jumped right out of FourSquare. This is a cafe which was opened quite a while ago when the cafe crave started in Singapore. Have seen many pictures, especially of their buttermilk waffles, all over Instagram but have yet to try. Since this was a quiet night, we could find seats and so we decided to have our dinner here!

The deco was quite a simple, industrial look, with exposed pipes and trunking. Quite a number of tables and seats around, and if you are only here for waffles, they have opened another outlet called Waffle Slayer just next door!

Cream Tea @The Rubens

Cream Tea Set

Cream Tea Set

We had difficulty making reservations for an afternoon tea session at the more popular places, as we had failed to realise earlier that it was Halloween today. The hotel staff tried to help us call a few places, but alas, all were fully booked.

Hot scones

Eventually, on the actual day, they offered us cream tea at their own cafe instead. This was fine with us, since we were still too full from breakfast anyway :p

We had Earl Grey with scones, clotted cream and jam. We loved that the scones were served warm and the clotted cream was oh-so-lovely and light, we had to resist getting more!

Patisserie Valerie @Paddington Station

We were meeting our friend, M, and her hubby, who were currently staying in London, for dinner… M promised to bring hubby to a lovely Fish & Chips place, so that hubby can finally announce to he world that he has tried some authentic Fish & Chips :p

We met at Paddington Station, which was near where M was staying and it was also a short walk to the Fish & Chips place. As we were early, we decided to have a mini tea break first… Haha!

We have heard great reviews on Patisserie Valerie, and there happened to be an outlet at Paddington Station, so this was where we parked ourselves.

Primrose Bakery @Camden Town

Our spread

Our spread

We were walking and walking till we were so tired, before we finally spotted Primrose Bakery, that was recommended by LadyIronChef!

It was also upon reaching this place that I realized it was the same shop where the gals and I bought some cookies for a quick dinner prior to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory!

The Regency Café @Regency Street

Happy couple!

Happy couple!

Another day, another breakfast decision. We Googled for a nearby breakfast place and The Regency Café (opened since 1946) seemed like a good option for some classic, traditional full English breakfast! It was voted as the fifth best restaurant in London by users of the website Yelp in 2013, and was included in the list of the top five less expensive places to eat in the UK.

But we have read many reviews about poor service, so we were also prepared to go elsewhere if things didn’t work out. Getting shouted at early in the morning is not the best way to start the day! (Apparently, the procedure of the day is to order your food at the counter first before you find a seat, or you will be shouted at!)

It was an easy 10-15min walk from our hotel and we managed to arrive close to 9am, and it was almost full, with only a couple of empty tables.

The Breakfast Club @Soho

Bright yellow exterior

Bright yellow exterior

Hubby woke up bright and early today! Because we were going out for a proper breakfast! The wifey was still hiding under the bed covers when he was ready… Haha! What to do? It was very cold this morning!

Anyway, we made it out of our hotel and managed to arrive at The Breakfast Club (Soho branch) before 9.30am. It was almost full because it opens from 8am, but there was still one 2-seater available, yay!

The Breakfast Club Cafe has 7 branches spread all over London and there is always long queues in all its cafes. It is popular for its brunch menu which is served until 5pm. Hubby got the recommendation of this place from his graduate student who became a stewardess, and hence had numerous opportunities to visit cities all over the world and visit nice eateries, like this one!
