Chock Full of Beans @Changi Village

Lay-back style

Lay-back style

Being out in the ulu-ness of Changi Village meant that we finally got the chance to try out Chock Full of Beans!

Spongebob Latte Art

Spongebob Latte Art

Apparently the latte art here is very good! So hubby ordered a regular Cafe Latte ($4.50), while I decided to go for a Iced Earl Grey flavoured with Rose Grapefruit ($7).

Hubby got a spongebob latte art! It was so cute, he was reluctant to drink his latte… Haha! The coffee, while smooth, was lacking in strength. I couldn’t really taste the earl grey too, but the drink was quite nice overall.

With 7% GST but no service charge.

Nasi Lemak @Changi Village

One of the more popular foods at the Changi Village Food Centre would be the nasi lemak (Malay coconut milk rice) and there are many stalls selling that. During our stay in Changi Village, we tried 2 of the more popular stalls – International Nasi Lemak and Mizzy Corner Nasi Lemak.

We ordered the same ingredients (egg, ikan bilis, otah) so that we can compare. Honestly, we couldn’t really tell which one was better, and we very much preferred the Nasi Lemak Kukus at Upper Thomson, haha!

Of note, at Mizzy Corner, it would be better to order the chicken, egg and ikan bilis set ($3.50) because almost all the sets were $3.50 (egg, ikan bilis with another item), but ala-carte chicken wings actually cost 50 cents more, so it was more value-for-money.

The Bark Cafe @Upper Changi

Iced and Hot

Iced and Hot

We wanted to go to the Changi Museum, but decided to pop by for some coffee and snacks at the Bark Cafe first, which is just beside the museum 😀

Hubby had a Iced Cafe Latte (~$5) while I decided to try the Bark’s Honey Lemon ($4.50)… yes, feeling a bit under the weather right at the start of our holiday 😦 That did not stop us from ordering the Bark Cafe’s Specialty Chicken Wing ($8.90 for 3) and the Smoked Duck Mini Burger ($16.90) to share.

The drinks were alright, but I thought it was a rather expensive tiny cup of Honey Lemon for that kind of price…

Bark Cafe’s Specialty Chicken Wing

Food-wise, we enjoyed the crispy chicken wings, and the sliders were pretty much standard fare.

We liked the quietness of the place though, and it was a nice little place to hang out during the late afternoon, when the weather was fine, as it was all alfresco dining, so it could get pretty hot.

Lola’s Cafe @Serangoon

Small but busy place!

Small but busy place!

We started our staycation holiday with a good breakfast at Kovan, in part to break up our journey to Changi Village, in part to fulfill our previous disappointment of not getting a seat in this popular cafe. Changi Village is really really far you know…

We reached around 10.30am and managed to get a table!

Full Monty Breakfast

Full Monty Breakfast

The Cafe Latte ($5) and Chai Tea Latte ($5) were not too bad, while the Full Monty Breakfast ($15) and Avocado Eggs Benedict ($15) were delicious!

We especially enjoyed the eggs benedict that was done just right, with the runny egg yolk oozing out as we cut into it… It was oh-so-yummy!

With a full breakfast, we were ready for the rest of the day 🙂

Oven Marvel @Sunshine Plaza

Chicken Pie

Chicken Pie

This little shop caught our attention while we were looking for lunch. But there were only 2 tables available and completely filled with people, so we decided to grab lunch first before coming back to try our luck.

At $3.80 a piece, the Chicken Pie was not exactly cheap, but it was quite delicious! Slightly spicy due to the generous amount of black pepper, the fillings had whole chunks of chicken along with onions, corn, peas and carrots. The flaky pastry skin was delicious without being overly buttery.

Banana Walnut Muffin

Banana Walnut Muffin

Nice enough that we decided to try the muffin too! Got ourselves a Banana Walnut Muffin for $2. As I bit into the muffin, I could smell and taste the sweetness of the bananas! The top was slightly crispy with crunchy walnut bits, and the rest of the muffin was moist with a generous amount of bananas. The best part was that it was not super sweet, so we didn’t feel jelat after finishing it.

What a great way to finish off our meal 🙂

Parklane Zha Yun Tun Mee House 百靈炸云吞麵美食屋 @Sunshine Plaza

Wanton noodle

Wanton noodle

We decided to come have some famous wanton noodles!

For $4, we got a plate of noodles with 4 fried wantons, 2 soup wantons, and some char siew. The noodles here were indeed QQ, and the fried wantons were very crispy, but we didn’t think too highly of the soup wantons or dumplings ($4), as the meat was rather bland and they were too generous with the fillings 😛 So it’s best to stick with the fried stuff!

Symmetry Cafe @Jalan Kubor (again)

Iced Tea

Iced Tea

Latte as usual

Latte as usual

We made reservations for Sunday 9am… It was an early brunch 🙂 We had wanted to return here to try the food after a lovely night out previously.

We arrived at 9am sharp and were the first customers… And remained as the only customers for the next 30min or so. The kitchen only starts at 9.30am, so we had plenty of time to browse the menu.

Pasta J Asian @Upper Thomson

Homely interior

Homely interior

This is one of the newer restaurant along this stretch of eateries, and we had wanted to try out the famed pesto sauce here for a while. Today is the day!

It was completely empty when I arrived around 7.15pm, and was very quickly offered a drink while I waited for hubby to arrive as I enjoyed the warm homely interior of this little restaurant.

This place makes their own pasta sauces, and sell them in little bottles that you can cook at home. They also offer cooking lessons for anyone who is interested in preparing your own pasta.

Reviews on the Net have mentioned that they do slow cooking and everything is prepared from scratch so we were prepared for a wait. But we were early and there was only another table around.. 🙂

Earl Grey

Earl Grey

Hubby loitered around this area while waiting for me to knock off, and chanced upon this cafe! So he found a quiet little corner and spent almost 2 hours here, enjoying his cup of Earl Grey ($4.50), while people-watching… Nice place to chill! The seats are quite spread out so there is plenty of privacy for conversations 🙂

Since he already had such a comfortable lounging chair, we decided to stay here for dinner as well.

[closed] ReStore @Tanjong Pagar

Note: ReStore has ceased operations at this location.

A cafe and a furniture shop!

A cafe and a furniture shop!

We were milling around the area and discovered a still-open cafe nearby! At first glance, ReStore looked more like a furniture shop than cafe 🙂 Turned out that they do serve waffles, coffee and tea, as well as restored furniture!

This little space was filled with tables and chairs of various sizes and styles, with an additional row of chairs hanging by the walls. Seemed slightly cluttered and a little squeezy, and I didn’t feel particularly safe sitting under the chairs, but it was quite empty when we reached, so we managed to find a nice spot to chill. It was a Berry Good Waffles ($9.80), Skinny Latte ($5) and Straits Chai Tea ($5) for us 🙂
