Woodshed Cafe @Rangoon

Woodshed Waffle

Woodshed Waffle

We had some time to kill before Father’s Day dinner so we wander around on FourSquare and Sugar, and landed up in Rangoon Road. This cafe is right at the end of the road, and we could easily have missed it.

The interior decor is simple but there are lots of space around since the tables were sparsely placed. That gave diners privacy and we could see some were just studying and some were reading.

Ordered a Woodshed Waffle, Iced Latte and a pot of Tea to wither our time away… Waflle was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Latte and tea were the usual stuff. We liked the serenity of the place, with soft lighting, soothing music and lots of space, both in mind and body…

18 Grams @Sheung Wan, Hong Kong

We kept passing by this cafe whenever we exit the MTR at Sheung Wan. Today was the last time we would be travelling by this station, so we figured that this would be our final stop before leaving Hong Kong island!

18 Grams is a chain of specialty coffee that has branches in various parts of Hong Kong. They brew coffee using Pour Over, Syphon, Aeropress, Cold Brew, Clever Cup, Chemex and french press, as well as the usual Expresso coffees.

I wanted a Matcha Latte (HKD 45), while hubby decided to try an original Shakerato (HKD 45). Ah! What a wonderful balance between the sweetness of the milk, and the bitterness of the matcha… Loved it! 🙂 The cold Shakerato looked innocently pretty but was very intense! Woah! I totally woke up with a tiny sip 😮

Café Deadend @Sheung Wan, Hong Kong

Stick to latte

Stick to latte

We were walking up and down the many slopes in Sheung Wan looking for this special dead end – an intimate café that could sit about 20 people indoors, with 4 more tables for outdoor seating.

Hubby had a Cafe Latte (HKD 40), while I decided on a Homemade Ginger Lemon (HKD 45). Hubby described the taste of the ginger lemon to be “the same as 白花蛇草水”, which is an almost tasteless Chinese herbal cooling drink, haha! I stirred very hard, and finally got a slightly gingerish, but very spicy and non-sweetened soda.

The cafe latte fared way better, and was much better than the one we had last night; more aromatic, stronger, less acidic, with a slight bitter and acidic aftertaste.

Conclusion? Stick to the coffee 🙂

Café Corridor @Causeway Bay, Hong Kong

Very sad latte art

Very sad latte art

Our last stop today was to visit Café Corridor!

We were not too hopeful initially, as it was a rather small place, and during our previous visit, it was packed to the brim! Today, we got lucky, and at around 9:30pm, it was less than half full!

Hubby ordered a Flat White (HKD 38), while I settled for a fresh Grapefruit Juice (HKD 45). Note that coffee is only served hot here, and there is a minimum of one drink per person.

The waitress who brought us the drinks accidentally spilled a little of the coffee, making the already sad-looking latte art look even more sad… The coffee was just alright, and not really aromatic. I could taste the freshness of my grapefruit juice though! Happy that they didn’t add additional sugar syrup 🙂

華星冰室 Chrisly Cafe @Shau Kei Wan, Hong Kong

Wonderful spread

Wonderful spread

We had read about this rather popular Cha Chan Teng 茶餐廳 and decided to come here for breakfast before doing the heritage trail on our 2nd day in Hong Kong!

At 10am on a hot Saturday morning, there was a relatively long queue. Thankfully, the queue moved rather fast and we were seated within 10 minutes.

We ordered 黑松露炒蛋多士 Scrambled Eggs with Truffle on Toast (HKD 40),特色猪扒包 Devil’s Pork Chop Bun (HKD 20), Coffee and Milk Tea. The scrambled eggs were really very excellent! Moist and buttery, it was an oh-so-heavenly breakfast option! The thick toast was soft and went well with the eggs. The pork chop bun was really a devil because of the very spicy wasabi mayonnaise 😮

Note that Chrisly Cafe is also known as Capital Cafe.

Fuel Espresso @IFC Mall, Hong Kong

Delicious carrot cake

Delicious carrot cake

After our excursion to Lamma Island, the Central Star Ferry Pier was just next to the IFC Mall, so we thought that it would be a great idea to stop by Fuel Expresso for a little perk-me-up!

At 3pm on a Friday, this place was packed to the brim, with many people doing take-away 😮 We waited a short while for a table, and decided on a hot Cafe Latte (HKD 48 nett) and the recommended Carrot Cake (HKD 40 nett). Rather pricey as compared to Singapore!

However, the coffee was really quite good; we enjoyed the strong and slightly acidic flavour, and it had this sweet aftertaste! The carrot cake was moist and not overly dense, in fact, it was slightly fluffy! The cake itself is not really sweet, and the cream cheese topping was of the right amount of sweetness for me… It was a perfect combination when eaten together! What a happy coffee break for us 🙂

Postre DIY Bakery & Cafe @Jalan Leban

Our dinner spread

Our dinner spread

This appeared to be a new kid on the block (we realized later that it had only started operating from 1 Jun 2015), so we gave up our usual haunts and came here for dinner instead 😛

Besides beautiful cupcakes and brownies prominently displayed in the fridge, Postre serves main courses which come with vegetables, dessert, fruits, soup of the day and coffee/tea, and without GST or service charge, so it sounds really affordable!

(And from 1-5 Jun 2015, they were having a 15% discount as part of opening promo!)

We decided to try a Prawn Spaghetti ($12.90) and a Ham and Cheese Stuffed Pork Cutlet ($14.90). We also upgraded to a Latte (UP $4.90, or top up $1.50 with main course), and a pot of Earl Grey with milk (UP $7.90, or top up $2.50).

Tai Lei Loi Kei 澳门大利来记猪扒包 @nex

Polo Pork Chop Bun 菠萝猪扒包

Polo Pork Chop Bun 菠萝猪扒包

We have been wanting to check out this place as it was always crowded whenever we walked past!

Today we were at nex bright and early, so it was a good opportunity to come here. True enough, the entire place was empty 🙂

Chicken Wings

Chicken Wings

We decided on a Polo Pork Chop Bun 菠萝猪扒包 ($6.90 nett, with $1 for egg) and topped up $5.60 to make it into a set, with Iced Macau Milk Tea (UP $2.80) and Chicken Wings (UP $5.90 for 6 wings).

The polo bun was not the crispy hard crust type, but its sweetness was a good complement to the rather salty but quite jucy pork slice. The wings were very juicy and salty, so it would be better to eat it with the rice option. Milk tea was pretty standard fare, but really helped to balance out the saltiness of the food…

mr bean @Toa Payoh

Surprise from mr bean!

Surprise from mr bean!

We were surprised that there was savoury beancurd available here, and quickly got ourselves a bowl of Signature Savoury Beancurd ($3.50, inclusive of GST).

Hot beancurd topped with spicy minced meat and fried onions, it tasted like tofu that we get from the usual zhi char stalls, just that it was a little too salty.

Quite an interesting twist to the usual beancurd 🙂

Dulcet & Studio @Liang Court

Wonderful after-dinner delights!

Wonderful after-dinner delights!

We ended our evening with a Super Light Cheese Chiffon Cake ($7, inclusive of GST), a Cafe Latte ($5.50) and a Match Latte ($6), at this little cafe by the corner.

The cake was really light, with the very addictive fresh cream…!! Made us feel like wanting more 🙂

I also loved the slightly bitter, and not so milky matcha latte 😀 It had a hint of toasted seaweed, and was really quite yummylicious without being too filling.

The rather aromatic cafe latte was quite strong and acidic, and hubby considered this a better-than-average brew.
