We were walking along Lygon Street (known as Little Italy in Melbourne) after our morning trip to Brighton Beach, trying to figure out which of the (many) Italian restaurant we should try, when JJ pointed out Seasons Provedore to us, as she had dined here before with good experience.
Trusting her precious good experience, we decided to have our lunch here too.
The Chicken Curry Pie (A$10.50) was a gorgeous huge pie served warmed, with buttery pastry and oh-so-juicy huge chicken chunks filling up the pie entirely, and curry filling up the gaps! This is how chicken pies should be, filled with huge chicken chunks instead of potatoes and frozen peas and carrots. Oh, and this is an award-winning pie!
Their gnocchis were award-winning too, and there was a promotion for lunch today, with gnocchi going for A$19 each. There were 4 flavours to pick from, and we ended up with Gnocchi Fungi Porcini e Pancetta (Porcini mushroom and italian diced pancetta, usual price A$26), and Gnocchi Zucca e Gorgonzola (Pumpkin and Gorgonzola Cheese, usual price A$24).
These were super delicious! The gnocchis were unlike others which were sometimes too starchy and mushy. These were chewy and full of flavours. The mushrooms and pancetta gave a tinge of saltiness while the pumpkin provided some sweetness to the dish. Very fulfilling plates indeed!
Hubby must have his pizza whenever we go Italian, so he ordered a 4 Stagioni Pizza (A$19) which has Tomato sauce, mozzarella, mushroom, artichokes, italian ham and olives, with the last 4 ingredients spread into 4 quarters. The ingredients, saved for mushroom, were very salty, especially the artichokes and olives and they kind of spoilt the taste of the otherwise chewy pizza.
