Heap Seng Leong Coffeeshop @North Bridge Road

imageWe were here especially for the kopi gu you (coffee with condensed milk and butter) after seeing it on JY’s IG!

A very old-school coffeeshop, it seemed like time stood still here.

Compared to brightly-lit signages of the nearby coffeeshop, we almost missed this place because the signage kind of blended into the background 😛

Sakari Sushi @Tanjong Pagar

2016-05-28 21.56.11

It had been a while since we last visited Sakari Sushi, and we had originally planned for a light dinner… BUT it ended up lasting 4 hours 😮

It was just really pleasant to slowly enjoy our food, and to enjoy the conversation with the chef!

We had our usual favourite seats at the corner of the sushi counter where we can watch (and take pictures) of the chef. Of course, JY decided to come join us midway and we had a blast!

Today, it was Chef Hong-san helming the sushi counter while Chef Paul-san took a breather 🙂

We didn’t realized we ate so much… But here’s what we had… 😛

Selfish Gene Cafe @Craig Road

It was such a hot afternoon and we were really melting while checking out the Keong Siak Carnival!

Taking a breather, we popped into the nearby Selfish Gene Cafe for an icy escape!

Cafes along this stretch of Craig Rd, and Tanjong Pagar area closes quite early during the day so although we had walked past this cafe a few times, we had not had any opportunity to try it out. Until today!

Got ourselves a Iced Cafe Latte ($6 nett), and a Iced Chai Tea Latte ($6) to beat the heat.

The coffee was strong and slightly acidic, while the tea was milky and abit on the sweet side, with a lovely hint of spices.

And so we just sat here and chilled till we were ready to face the heat again!

Red Star Restaurant 红星酒家 @Chinatown

A heavy downpour this morning had us change our plans and we ended up having brunch at Red Star Restaurant instead.

Located on the 7th storey of an old HDB block, this was an old-school, no frills, pushcart style dim sum place. It was a rather quiet Saturday, and we were able to enjoy our food slowly and absorb ourselves in the atmosphere; hubby loved having pushcarts coming our way, as compared to the ala-carte dim sum style.

Each dim sum item ranges from $3.50 to $4.70, and tea was $2/person, plus 5% service charge and 7% GST. They now list the items (instead of just the prices) in the card where they would chop a stamp for each item ordered.

Gemmills @Amoy Street

2016-05-04 18.12.52We popped over next door to Gemmills for some drinks after our delicious burger at Burger Joint.

Well, we had initially wanted to have drinks only, but plans are always subject to changes 🙂

  • The Duck Rillette ($10 nett) was like a paté, which reminded us a little of tuna mayo, but with a much more intense flavour. It went very well with the bread, and the crunchy pickles was refreshingly sour.
  • The Quiche ($8) was pretty standard in our opinion, quite nice but without the wow factor.
  • 2016-05-04 18.06.37Hubby enjoyed his Flat White ($4), which was strong and acidic.
  • Unfortunately, I felt that the Aurora’s Lemon & Ginger Tea ($4) was a bit weak, and I could barely taste any hint of lemon.

Iced water is available for free, and the service was friendly and pleasant. There was no free WiFi though.

We did enjoy just lounging around, enjoying the music and food. What a lovely way to end our mid-week!

Burger Joint Singapore @Amoy Street

2016-05-04 17.50.46Burger Joint is a newly opened (today is their 2nd day!) famous New York burger restaurant with only a back door on Gemmill Lane as the entrance (similar to its unshowy entrance in New York Le Parker Meridien Hotel).

Upon entering, we were welcomed into a cosy area with comfy looking sofa benches. With colourful menu written on cardboard and customers’ scribblings all over the walls, this certainly looked like a fun place to be in!

2016-05-04 17.36.50The steps are clear: decide on the type of burger, how do you want it cook, and what do you want on it, and rattle off your order at the counter. Pay up, memorise your number, and wait for them to shout your number to get your yummy burgers!

We had a Cheeseburger cooked medium rare with all in, except ketchup ($13.80 + GST).

Our verdict? The beef patty was awesome!!! We loved the texture and the pinkish meat. It was also a very non-greasy burger, so it was not as sinful…

There was a bar counter, but we did not try any drinks. We did however, enjoyed the free WiFi (just ask the staff for the password), and left our scribblings on the wall… May the 4th be with You 🙂

Tamashii Robataya @Clarke Quay

2016-04-26 21.04.25We were looking for a good dinner, and having an excellent experience at Akanoya Robatayaki previously, we decided to check out Tamashii (after reading MissTamChiak’s blog) too!

The location of the restaurant was not the easiest to find even though we had the exact address. It was located on the 2nd floor of The Offshore building but the entrance to the elevator lobby was in such an obscure corner. If not for the clear directions from MissTamChiak’s entry, we would definitely be lost.

For the record, you need to walk along North Canal Road until you reach this side alley with the picture of all the restaurant logos on the wall (see picture) and a direction to Elevator. Then you walk in the direction of the arrow and near the end of the alley you will see a small opening on your right. Push the door open and that’s the elevator lobby where you will take to Level 2. Turn right after getting out and you will see Tamashii. 🙂

The Lobby Lounge @Intercontinental Singapore

2016-03-12 15.14.30We were pleasantly surprised that there was a Coffee Edition of Afternoon Tea at The Lobby Lounge after its renovations, and we decided to try both the Royal Heritage Afternoon Tea and the Not-An-Afternoon Tea Coffee Edition.

For $42++ per person, each set came with choice of one Mocktail and a selection of coffee/tea, and 3 tiers of 13 small bites.

For Mocktail, I had the Golden Lady, which was a refreshing iced TWG Rose Boudoir tea with delightful tones of lychee fragrance. Hubby had the Iced Copacabana, which was like milk chocolate that was made up of Brazil expresso, cream and milk.

Teppei Restaurant @Orchid Hotel

2016-03-02 22.17.38We finally set foot on the legendary Teppei Restaurant, where the current reservation queue is half a year!

Hubby was following Teppei’s Facebook page for any last minute cancellations, and it appeared that we were always missing that little bit of luck. But our chance came on one fine day in Dec 2015 where Teppei opened up a few slots at the same time for the next few months. Without missing a bit, hubby messaged and secured two seats for the 8:30pm session on 2 Mar 2016!

After a not-so-long wait of 3 months, we arrived at the restaurant full of expectations, and saw that the 6:30pm session people were just finishing their dessert and taking their leave.

The Carvery @Park Hotel Alexandra

2015-11-16 21.24.22I was around the area these few days and hubby decided to travel all the way here to have dinner together 🙂

Park Hotel Alexandra has just opened recently beside IKEA Alexandra (one of the few up and coming hotels located away from the crowded downtown area). He thought that The Carvery looked pretty good, so he booked a table for two and that was where we were headed!

Located on the 7th floor of the hotel, where the pool was, we enjoyed quite a lovely view of the area. It felt very relaxing to be here! The restaurant was spacious and since it was a weekday, there were not many customers around so we felt like we had the entire restaurant to ourselves!
