Cafes in Busan and Seoul, South Korea

We had been to quite a few cafes during this trip, sometimes just to get breakfast for the next morning, and sometimes, we needed caffeine. And our favourite place gotta be…

카반커피 Kavan Coffee

IMG_2385IMG_2384Of worthy mention is this place, where we had the best Cafe Latte (₩3,000) of this trip. Strong, yet smooth, it had that oomph at the very first sip 🙂

The Green Tea Latte  (₩3,500) here was pretty good too.

There are 2 outlets, and the one we visited was near 서면역 Seomyeon Station 西面站 (check out the location map in their website). Do give it a try if you visit Busan!

Mahota Commune @Kitchener Complex

2017-01-30 10.11.57We were on a foodie trail today 🙂

First up was a brunch gathering at Mahota Pantry with cousin and friends!

Located at Kitchener Complex, Mahota Commune actually occupies the entire Level 3, and not only does it have two eateries (Mahota Kitchen and Mahota Pantry), it also has a rather impressive supermarket (Mahota Market), which sells a rather wide variety of organic produce and health food (some from their very own Mahota Farm), and is worth checking out if you are a fan of organic products.

In addition to all these, there is also a TCM clinic, and Mahota also conducts workshops and exercise classes, including free trials.

Being the festive season, Mahota Pantry had a seasonal special Hot Double Orange ($6.80++), which was sweet and tangy, and really helped to whet up our appetite, while we waited for the rest.

The Lobby Lounge @Intercontinental Singapore

2016-03-12 15.14.30We were pleasantly surprised that there was a Coffee Edition of Afternoon Tea at The Lobby Lounge after its renovations, and we decided to try both the Royal Heritage Afternoon Tea and the Not-An-Afternoon Tea Coffee Edition.

For $42++ per person, each set came with choice of one Mocktail and a selection of coffee/tea, and 3 tiers of 13 small bites.

For Mocktail, I had the Golden Lady, which was a refreshing iced TWG Rose Boudoir tea with delightful tones of lychee fragrance. Hubby had the Iced Copacabana, which was like milk chocolate that was made up of Brazil expresso, cream and milk.

Malacca 2015 Day 3

2015-10-11 10.41.00Today is check-out day. We had a simple breakfast at hotel, and went back to the Jonker area. There was a flea market and we had fun looking at stuff from the olden days.

2015-10-11 11.15.53We stopped by for coffee at Calanthe Art Cafe where coffee from 18 Malaysia states were on display, with the staff suggesting that mummy try the Perlis Kopi (RM4.25 + 6% GST), as she preferred something more milky, while hubby was so feeling so hot, so he went for cold Caffe latte (RM 9.35+). Daddy settled for green apple juice (RM7.25+), and I wanted the apple aloe vera (RM5.15+).

2015-10-11 12.57.17It was back to hotel for a quick lunch at Coffeevine in Hatten Hotel. Our KKKL coach was scheduled to leave at 2pm, but we were told to be at the pick up point by 1.30pm. It came promptly at 1:30pm and we reached the drop-off point in Singapore (near Hotel V at Lavender instead of Textile Centre) by 6.10pm. And our short vacation has ended. 🙂

Cafe Crema @Westgate

We did a journey to the West today, after casting our vote for the future (or the next 5 years) of Singapore!

Did some shopping at JEM before heading over to Westgate for a bite.

In the end, Cafe Crema caught our eye, because we were in need of some good coffee!

Hubby ordered a Flat White ($6 inclusive of GST) and we shared the Big Bad Wolf ($16).

The Flat White was served in a huge cup! Smooth and slightly acidic, it was not bad. But there was no latte art, so hubby was a bit sad… How come we see so many pictures of coffee with latte art here? On hindsight, maybe we should have tried the signature Piccolo Latte.

The Big Bad Wolf was huge, and perfect for sharing. Use your hands and stuff everything into your mouth; the combination of breaded pork cutlet, smoked ham, crispy bacon, egg mayo, and buttered Brioche, was simply awesome. Taken apart, they don’t taste quite as good. The sandwich came with a side serving of chips (like those potato chips in a bag), and a salad with a slightly sweet but rather addictive dressing.

Note: Water is freely available at the side station.

Anti:dote @Fairmount Singapore

Apparently a rather popular place for afternoon tea, Anti:dote made it to a few lists for top places to go for afternoon tea, and so this was where we decided to go! At $45++ per person, and non-refillable, it seemed a little pricey, but based on past experience, we would probably be too full from one round.

We made reservations 3 days prior, and received an email confirmation within hours 🙂 Also, I made a request to get a table at a quiet corner as it was somebody’s special celebrations!

Ho Chi Minh City 2015 Day 3

[Here is the photostream of Ho Chi Minh City 2015, for those who prefer pictures to tell a story. 🙂]

Banh Mi

Banh Mi

Holidays always come to an end too soon! Today was our last day. After breakfast at the hotel, we chilled a bit in our room before checking out. Left our luggage with the hotel, while we went for some final eats and drinks.

Hubby especially picked Hatvala Tea & Coffee for lunch, as it was supposed to specialise in tea 🙂 Unfortunately, due to the massive construction just outside the cafe, they have stopped serving food 😮 Nonetheless, the staff was very kind to allow us to bring in food from outside. So we went to the Banh Mi stall just next to the cafe, ordered a combination flavour Banh Mi (VND15,000), and brought it into the shop so that we could enjoy the drinks. Hubby had a Iced Latte (VND70,000), while I tried the Mountain Mist Tea (VND75,000).

Ho Chi Minh City 2015 Day 1

[Here is the photostream of Ho Chi Minh City 2015, for those who prefer pictures to tell a story. 🙂]

Sleepy but happy couple

Sleepy but happy couple

We arrived at the airport around 5am in the morning for breakfast 🙂 Also, because the boarding pass indicated that we should still go to the airport early for verifications. Strange, but anyway, we did the self check-in since we did not have any check-in luggage, so we spent like 5 minutes to do all that, and went to the nearby coffee and toast for breakfast. Hubby decided on the Ham and Cheese Croissant Set ($5), while I settled for the Ham and Cheese Toast ($4.60), after observing the other customers eating not-very-appetizing-looking traditional toast.

The eggs were cracked for us, but I was not sure if it was deliberate that we each got 1 whole soft boiled egg and 1 broken egg. So we swallowed the whole egg and dipped the bread into the remaining runny egg yolk 😀 The ham and cheese were very salty and went better with the slightly buttery croissant.

Penny University @East Coast

Simple pleasures

Simple pleasures

I was in the east to visit a colleague, and so hubby decided to come over to the east for dinner 🙂 While I was having a blast at Ms L’s place, hubby endured a 1.5 hours bus ride 😮

Luckily, there was a cafe nearby, so we took a quick walk over to Penny University!

This place was rather popular when the cafe culture started in Singapore a while ago, but we never got around to come here. Simply because it’s in the East and we are very North people. Haha…

A very simple place with smooth lighting, and soft music. One thing good here is that there are newspapers and magazines lying around which also means that they expect you to nua here… 🙂

Tea Bone Zen Mind @Emerald Hill

Beautiful place!

Beautiful place!

Ms J promised to take us to this secret tea place for a 3-course tea sampling course ($45 nett per pax) and we had been so looking forward to it! We were surprised to be able to find such a peaceful sanctuary right smack in the middle of town 🙂

It was a 5 to 10 minute walk from Somerset MRT, and luckily, J had sent us a picture of the door without signage so that we knew exactly where to look for!

After pressing the bell (actually, we should have pressed the button of the intercom instead), we were welcomed to the lovely tea place!

It was huge with 3 floors and mezzanine floors, with private rooms and common rooms. After removing our shoes, we walked in and were greeted huge goldfishes swimming in the indoor pond!
