Hot Chocolate

Woohoo! Found this cafe as we were on our way back to Oxford Street, and we were glad that we came in!

The Cafe Latte (£2.60) was very good! The acidity taste seemed to swirl around within the mouth when I took a sip, very lovely!

The Hot Chocolate (£2.60) was really chocolatey and delicious too, so it was very good for such a windy day 🙂

Burger & Lobster @36 Dean Street

Simple pleasures

Simple pleasures

We had a late start this morning and decided we must go to Burger & Lobster for lunch!

Well, you see, everyone who has gone to London (and back) says this is a must-go restaurant whenever you are in London (together with Duck & Waffle and Patty & Bun)! The food menu is very simple, there are only 3 items. In fact, there isn’t a menu! The waitress simply come by your table and explain the very simple 3 items to the table. For £20, you could order:

  • a Whole Lobster (steamed or grilled),
  • a Lobster Roll, or
  • a Beef Burger

Ah, £20 for a burger? No thanks 😛

Patty & Bun @54 James Street

Deciding what to eat

Deciding what to eat

We were around the corner at Oxford Street and figured that we should pop by for some burger goodness!

Patty & Bun has become very popular in London with their juicy burgers. There are 2 locations in Central London, one on James Street and one on Liverpool Street. The one on James Street is right in the middle of the famous shopping street, Oxford Street (this is like Orchard Road in Singapore). Which is just as well, because you can always drop by for a burger after your shopping spree!

[closed] Hang Out Cafe @AMK

Note: Hang Out Cafe has ceased operations at this location, and relocated to NAFA.

Bombastic Egg

Bombastic Egg

You may have heard that the Burpz Cafe that used to be near our house has changed management and renamed themselves to Hang Out Cafe. They have been quite on the ball and changing/adding menu items regularly. So on this quiet night when I do not know where or what to have dinner, I just strolled myself to here and decided to park here and nua…

I saw the board displaying the Savoury Waffle and wanted to try but it was only available at breakfast and tea time. However the owner was quite flexible and said that the kitchen would be able to prepare for me, if I wanted to try it. So I ordered that (not knowing exactly what is the savoury part) and ordered the Bombastic Egg ($8) as well.

Fosters @Holland Village

Devonshire Cream Tea Set

Devonshire Cream Tea Set

Wifey was in London for a work trip so I was all alone in search of food in Holland Village. Since the time was just right for afternoon tea, I decided to visit Fosters, an Engligh Rose Cafe (which is also a steak restaurant for lunch and dinner) again for its very affordable Devonshire Cream Tea Set ($11.50)!

The set comes with a pair of freshly-baked scones served with butter, home-made strawberry preserve and cream, fruit cake, finger sandwiches and a choice of a pot of coffee or tea, which of course I opted for Cafe Latte instead.

The scones on itself were already heavenly and its taste was leveled up with the clotted cream! Baked freshly everyday at 3pm, the scones were crispy on the outside and soft and light on the inside which did not give a very heavy feeling, especially when there were two to go with.

Definitely recommended if you are in the vicinity, and at the right time!

Little Pancakes @Upper Thomson

Keep Calm and Eat Pancakes

Keep Calm and Eat Pancakes

We have been here for a couple of times already but didn’t blog about it. Since I am running out of ideas to eat alone in Upper Thomson (wifey is in London for a work trip), I thought of re-visiting! And also because I was somehow craving for pancakes. 🙂

The place is very simple and it serves just pancakes. There are a couple of savoury pancakes and a whole list of sweet ones.

The unique thing about the pancakes here is that they come in small, mini-sized ones instead of the usual big ones (hence the name Little Pancakes). This makes it easy to eat, and gives the illusion that there are more (in number)!

Kakis Bistro Bar @Changi Village

We decided to stroll around the area for something light, and then we saw the SuagrApp sticker at one of the shops.

Oh yar! We could check out the app to see if there was anything interesting nearby.

And so we used the app and found this place! We tried the tapas – Prawn Alioli with Lemongrass & Coriander ($9.80, but only $1 with the app) and Stir Fried Button Mushroom with White Wine Shallots & Kaffir Leaf ($8.50), and were happy with our food! They were really generous with the fresh prawns and the mushrooms were delicious too!

The live band (The Passerby) began their performance slightly before 8pm. We enjoyed ourselves very much with the good food and the great music, loved the ambience!

However, the staff seemed to be in a hurry to chase us away, wanting to clear our plates when we were not done with our food. The minute we finished the pasta, he swopped in to clear the pasta, the sharing plate and all the unused serviettes, so we had to end up requesting for more when we were done with our mushrooms.

Drinks seemed rather expensive here, but there was no service charge or Goods Service Tax.

It was a rather nice place to hang out, would have been better if the service had not been so zealous. Do note that the live music is available only on Fridays and Saturdays.

Chock Full of Beans @Changi Village

Lay-back style

Lay-back style

Being out in the ulu-ness of Changi Village meant that we finally got the chance to try out Chock Full of Beans!

Spongebob Latte Art

Spongebob Latte Art

Apparently the latte art here is very good! So hubby ordered a regular Cafe Latte ($4.50), while I decided to go for a Iced Earl Grey flavoured with Rose Grapefruit ($7).

Hubby got a spongebob latte art! It was so cute, he was reluctant to drink his latte… Haha! The coffee, while smooth, was lacking in strength. I couldn’t really taste the earl grey too, but the drink was quite nice overall.

With 7% GST but no service charge.

Nasi Lemak @Changi Village

One of the more popular foods at the Changi Village Food Centre would be the nasi lemak (Malay coconut milk rice) and there are many stalls selling that. During our stay in Changi Village, we tried 2 of the more popular stalls – International Nasi Lemak and Mizzy Corner Nasi Lemak.

We ordered the same ingredients (egg, ikan bilis, otah) so that we can compare. Honestly, we couldn’t really tell which one was better, and we very much preferred the Nasi Lemak Kukus at Upper Thomson, haha!

Of note, at Mizzy Corner, it would be better to order the chicken, egg and ikan bilis set ($3.50) because almost all the sets were $3.50 (egg, ikan bilis with another item), but ala-carte chicken wings actually cost 50 cents more, so it was more value-for-money.

The Bark Cafe @Upper Changi

Iced and Hot

Iced and Hot

We wanted to go to the Changi Museum, but decided to pop by for some coffee and snacks at the Bark Cafe first, which is just beside the museum 😀

Hubby had a Iced Cafe Latte (~$5) while I decided to try the Bark’s Honey Lemon ($4.50)… yes, feeling a bit under the weather right at the start of our holiday 😦 That did not stop us from ordering the Bark Cafe’s Specialty Chicken Wing ($8.90 for 3) and the Smoked Duck Mini Burger ($16.90) to share.

The drinks were alright, but I thought it was a rather expensive tiny cup of Honey Lemon for that kind of price…

Bark Cafe’s Specialty Chicken Wing

Food-wise, we enjoyed the crispy chicken wings, and the sliders were pretty much standard fare.

We liked the quietness of the place though, and it was a nice little place to hang out during the late afternoon, when the weather was fine, as it was all alfresco dining, so it could get pretty hot.
