오우가 Ouga 五友歌 @Seoul, South Korea

IMG_2500We had been having so much street food, and decided to have a proper, leisure, sit-down dinner today 🙂

오우가 Ouga 五友歌 was highly recommended by our friend Ms. K, and it was quite packed when we arrived! Luckily, there was still a table available, and we did not have to wait.

While the staff might not speak much English, their menu was in Korean, English, Chinese and Japanese, so we managed to order without much difficulty.

We opted to share 2 sets, the 생갈비살식 (Saeng Galbisal) Grilled Beef Rib Meal 鮮排骨肉定食套餐 (₩15,000) and 삼곂살정식(Samgyeopsaljeong) Grilled Pork Loin Meal 五花肉定食套餐. Both sets came with 100g of the meat, as well as green tea bamboo rice, vegetables, side dishes, and sauce.

놀부Nolboo Budae Jjigae 樂伯部隊鍋 @Seoul, South Korea

IMG20170407140855부대찌개 (Budae Jjigae) Korean Army Stew 部隊鍋 is one of the very popular food to have whenever our friends have a gathering. We figured that we should have a proper one before the girls get home!

They recommended going to Nolboo, which is a chain well-known for Budae Jjigae as well as some other brands under the same chain.

This place actually serves Budae Jjigae for single customers, and it appeared to be quite rare, as most of the restaurants that we visited required a minimum of 2 pax to order this dish.

Menu was available in English, Japanese, and Chinese, with lots of pictures, so ordering was not an issue.

We decided to go for the Traditional Set (₩20,000 for 2 pax), and the Beef Set (₩22,000 for 2 pax) which came with noodles and drinks (a huge 1.5l of orange for the 4 of us :o), as well as the side dishes.

노량진수산물도매시장 Noryangjin Fisheries Wholesale Market 鷺梁津水產市場 @Seoul, South Korea

IMG_2463We had yet to enjoy sashimi during this trip, and just before the girls depart for home, we decided to visit 노량진수산물도매시장 Noryangjin Fisheries Wholesale Market 鷺梁津水產市場 for some fresh seafood 😀

We had reached the fish market around 10:30am, and there were hardly any customers 😮 We walked around to check out the various seafood, and throughout, we were approached by vendors who knew how to speak Mandarin, making us even more worried about getting scammed.

In the end, we decided to play it safe, and just get some sashimi to share. At the main aisle, there were many stalls that were selling pre-packed sliced sashimi, but the fish did not seem very fresh. We kept walking around, till we saw a couple of tourists getting their sashimi from a stall 당진수산 (Dangjin Susan) Dangjin Fishery (할어-089, Tel: 010-2733-3910), where the sashimi platter prices were listed. We did not have to worry about bargaining or getting scammed anymore 🙂

토속촌 삼계탕 Tosokchon Samgyetang 土俗村蔘雞湯 @Seoul, South Korea

IMG20170406123155토속촌 삼계탕 Tosokchon Samgyetang 土俗村蔘雞湯 is easily one of the most famous Ginseng Chicken Soup restaurant known to tourists, having been widely featured in guidebooks, and in Visit Korea website. In fact, when I first said that I wanted to try ginseng chicken soup, the first place that everyone thought of was this restaurant 😮 It even has its own Weibo account!

Knowing that there would be long queues everyday, especially during meal times, we decided to pop over earlier. At 11:30, there was no queue 😀

봉추찜닭 Bongchu Jjimdak 鳳雛燉雞 @Seoul, South Korea

IMG_2399It was quite confusing as to where the location of 봉추찜닭 Bongchu Jjimdak 鳳雛燉雞 was. We had searched for the location which indicated it was above Innisfree in 명동 Myeongdong 明洞, but when we reached, there was no such restaurant!

Thankfully, the staff at Innisfree directed us to another outlet 2 blocks away,  which was near the Korean Money Museum, and it was 2 blocks away.

Once we were seated, we were presented with the non-Korean menu (mainly English with some Chinese translation), making it easy for us to order.

The main menu was also simple enough; there was only 찜닭 (Jjimdak) Korean Braised Chicken 燉雞 in 3 different portions, and 3 different level of spiciness, and whether you would prefer boneless chicken or not.

교촌치킨 Kyochon Chicken 橋村炸雞 @Busan, South Korea

IMG_2387After all the hiking earlier, we decided that we really deserved a good treat! Of course, how can we miss out fried chicken while in Korea?

We made our enquiries with the hotel staff, and apparently, one of the most popular franchise for home delivery was 교촌치킨 Kyochon Chicken 橋村炸雞. We had initially requested for her to help us place an order to be delivered to the hotel, but she did a quick online search and found an outlet near us 😀

Initially, we started with a Korean menu, and one of the staff gave us some recommendations. Later on, we found another menu with some English explanation 😀

Essentially, there are 4 different flavours of Sweet, Soy Garlic, Spicy, Original and Boneless, and you can choose different parts of the chicken via Whole Chicken, Wings and Drumlets, Wings, Drumlets and Thigh, and Thigh.

오륙도스카이워크 Oryukdo Skywalk 五六島天空步道 & 이기대 Igidae 二妓臺 @Busan, South Korea

IMG_2342We decided to check out the 오륙도 스카이워크 Oryukdo Skywalk 五六島天空步道 today!

As usual, prior to the trip, we sought advice from the hotel staff, and decided that it would be much more convenient and not that expensive for 4 of us to share a cab after taking the subway to 경성대부경대 Kyungsung University–Pukyong National University Station 慶星大·釜慶大站 (Subway Line 2, Station Number 212). We boarded cab at 8:49am just outside Exit 5, and arrived at the Sky Walk 14 minutes later (₩6,700).

Being early, we had the Skywalk almost to ourselves, and took our time to enjoy the beautiful scenery. We also spotted tents where 海女 would normally be selling the seafood that they obtained on their trip out in the sea, but we were either too early, or it was their off day today, for the tents were all closed.

해동해물탕 Haedong Haemultang 海東海鮮鍋 @Busan, South Korea

IMG_2336I have been wanting to check out this restaurant, after reading about it in the guidebook, and it was just around the corner of our hotel!

According to the guidebook, the owner of 해동해물탕 Haedong Haemultang 海東海鮮鍋 goes to 자갈치시장 Jagalchi Market 札嘎其市場 every morning to select the freshest seafood for the day, and the prices here are very reasonable.

So after a tiring day at walking around Busan, we decided that a hot steaming seafood pot for dinner it shall be!

The menu came with Chinese, English and Japanese translation, so I guess this must be a popular place with tourists too.

BIFF Square @Busan, South Korea

IMG_2318IMG20170403185535BIFF Square (which got its name from Busan International Film Festival) is just a short walk away from the 자갈치시장 Jagalchi Market 札嘎其市場.

The square has rows of shops and was meant to be a gathering place for people when they visited the annual Busan International Film Festival. Do check out the hand prints of past award-winners of the BIFF, which was similar to Hollywood Walk of Fame/Hong Kong’s Avenue of Stars.

자갈치시장 Jagalchi Market 札嘎其市場 @Busan, South Korea

IMG_2310A short 10-min cab ride from 감천문화마을 Gamcheon Culture Village 甘川洞文化村 (₩3,800), we reached 자갈치시장 Jagalchi Market 札嘎其市場.

Though it was already close to 5:30pm, there were still lots of vendors hawking their stuff in the outdoor market. There were both live and dried items for sale, and it was quite an interesting walk.

We also went to the indoor market, but the fresh fish market on first level proved to be quite intimidating, with every stall trying to get our attention.

However, we decided to save our stomach space for more street eat, so we decided to head on to BIFF 광장 BIFF Square BIFF廣場 which is just a short walk away.
