Putien Restaurant 莆田菜馆 @Kitchener Road

We discovered our expiring Putien return voucher, and very promptly made reservations at the Kitchener Road branch, haha! Also because it just won itself a 1-Star in the 2016 Michelin Guide Singapore!

寧夏夜市 Ningxia Night Market @Taipei

2016-01-10 20.31.09.jpgWe arrived at Taipei rather late, after our long lunch at 羅東 Luodong. We were still very full by dinner time, so we decided to swing by the nearby 寧夏夜市 Ningxia Night Market for some small bites.

We recalled in our previous visit, we tried 2 oyster omelettes. This time, we decided to try from 圓環邊蚵仔煎. In addition to 蚵仔煎 Oyster Omelette (NT65), we also ordered 蛤仔湯 Clam Soup (NT65). The oyster omelette was fluffy with some chewy but light bits. It had at least 11 fresh juicy oysters, which was definitely way more than the non-existent version that we tried previously. We also like the sauce, as it was not overly sweet, and the amount was just right. The clear clam soup was light and sweet, and filled with plump clams.

2016-01-10 23.36.02Happy with our first bites, we went to revisit an old stall for 豬血湯 Pig’s Blood Soup (NT45) and 鲁肉飯 Braised Pork Rice (NT25). There were plenty of huge pieces of pig’s blood :D. The gravy of the braised pork was very delicious, but the rice used was just alright.

Finally, we decided to pack some vegetables from 李家鄉滷味 back to our hotel to eat. The queue was slow-moving, as the lady was rather meticulous in weighing the items to ensure fairness. For NT160, we had a huge bag of 杏鲍菇, meat balls, broccoli, beancurd, white bamboo shoots. We enjoyed every bit of it and went to bed very satisfied with the entire day!

泰苑鱼翅海鲜酒家 Tai Yuen Shark’s Fin Seafood Restaurant @Lamma Island, Hong Kong

Today's Special

Today’s Special

After our walk from Yung Shue Wan 榕树灣 to Sok Kwu Wan 索罟灣, we deserved a good lunch!

We also missed the ferry by 15 minutes or so, and it was a good 2 hours wait for the next one. The restaurants were well aware of the schedule too, as one called out to us, telling us that it was a long wait to before the next ferry would come and so we should have lunch while waiting, and another one tried to entice us with their private ferry schedule…

We walked up and down the stretch of restaurants (and seeing the ever popular Rainbow Seafood) before finally deciding on Tai Yuen Shark’s Fin Seafood Restaurant 泰苑鱼翅海鲜酒家 and ordered the set for 2 (HKD 248). It was probably the cheapest set available across all restaurants, and the ala-carte menu also had prices listed, unlike some others, so we felt more comfortable eating here.

La Pizzaiola @Teacher’s Estate

I was searching for dinner options and chanced upon this Italian restaurant, La Pizzaiola (they have another branch beside Wimbly Lu in Serangoon) which was within the Teacher’s Estate. Funny we didn’t noticed its existence when we frequented a rather delicious fish head curry restaurant that used to be in this area.

We tried one of the specials, Stracciatella with Homemade Bread and Fresh Rockets, the La Pizzaiola Speciale, and Spaghetti alle Vongole.

The Stracciatella (a kind of buttery cheese) was the highlight of the night! The accompanying bread was soft and warm, and when spread with the Stracciatella cheese and topped with the fresh rocket, made each mouthful a bursting happiness of flavours! The La Pizzaiola Speciale was a roast beef pizza and was extremely delicious too! The pizza base was not as thin as we would preferred it to be but it was soft and not as hard as some of the other ones which we have tried elsewhere. The roast beef was a fresh idea which we have not tried before but it blended pretty well with the rocket, the cheese and the tomato base. The pasta, on the other hand, was only marginally better than what we had at Jamie’s… I’m not sure, maybe this was how authentic pasta was supposed to taste like? But we really disliked this type of sticky pasta.

Overall, a pretty satisfied meal and I am sure we will be back for more!
