Restoran Soon Soon Heng Bak Kut Teh 順順興肉骨茶 @Johor Bahru, Malaysia

Conveniently located just opposite KSL Mall, we thought we would check it out since the reviews seemed quite favorable. We got ourselves some Bak Kut Teh, and Pig’s Trotters. For the Bak Kut Teh, we had the option of adding ingredients, so we just randomly pointed to a few, haha!

This Bak Kut Teh was neither too peppery nor herbal. Not too bad if you prefer milder flavors, but it could feel like some oomph was missing. We spent a total of RM68 for this meal.

基隆廟口夜市 Keelung Miaokou Night Market

IMG_4672IMG20171030173637No trip to Taiwan would be complete without a visit to one of the night markets every night, at least, according to hubby 😛

Since we were at 九份 Jiufen earlier in the day, 基隆 Keelung was the most logical option for this evening. Mr J happened to be in Taipei during this period of time, so we decided to meet up at this night market.

남대문시장 Namdaemun Market 南大門市場 @Seoul, South Korea

IMG20170406134129One of the largest traditional market in South Korea, 남대문시장 Namdaemun Market 南大門市場 has been opened since 1964.

There are stores that serves as wholesale markets (starts from 11pm to next day wee hours), as well as retail sections (some stores start from 9am onwards, with push carts coming out closer to 11am).

With more than 10,000 stores, all sorts of stuff can be found here, including clothing, accessories, toys, kitchenware, etc. Of course, there are plenty of food options as well, from snack stalls to cafes and eateries. It seemed impossible to finish seeing and eating in one day.

Since we were staying quite near 남대문시장 Namdaemun Market 南大門市場, we popped over quite a number of times for eating and shopping. In fact, hubby even managed to haggle a little for cheap men’s socks 😮 (Though we did see even cheaper ones at Dongdaemun…)

First thing we did was to get a map of the Namdaemun Market at the Information Centre near Exit 5 of 회현 Hoehyeon Station 會賢站 (Subway Line 4, Station Number 425), or you can get a copy from here. We also spotted staff stationed at different areas to help lost tourists.

Koon Buk Kut Teh (坤)肉骨茶 @Cheong Chin Nam Road

Signature Bak Kuk Teh

Signature Bak Kuk Teh

In the area to meet friends and decided to check out the food options along this stretch of road (which has changed a fair bit due to the construction of Downtown Line, and sadly, our favourite Liu Sha Bao is GONE!!).

The bak kut teh signboard caught our attention and we decided to give it a go, despite the lack of crowd.

The interior was simple, and kind of reminded us of the Malaysian-styled kopi tiams which we saw in Malacca and Penang – simple in ambience but winning customers over through good food. Would this BKT shop give us the same experience?

Eng Kee Bak Kut Teh 永记肉骨茶 @AMK

Yummilicious BKT

Yummilicious BKT

It’s Christmas Eve and we had lunch with my parents 🙂

Gotta say the ribs were still as good as ever, especially the Dragon Bone or 龙骨! It was not the soft soft nua nua type; rather, it was slightly firm to bite, we loved the texture! The free top-up of soup was also a great plus point! We love the soup here as it was not so overpowering with pepper.

The pig’s trotter was very soft today and the meat was literally falling off the bone, and this was quite different from our previous experience, where the meat was so tough! Dad said that we should request for the fatty type, otherwise, we would be given the lean type and the meat would be very tough. Now we know how to order the next time 🙂
