Ah Seah Teochew Porridge @Teck Chye Terrace

What a spread

What a spread

Having a late lunch with parents and we recalled seeing this rather popular porridge place along Teck Chye Terrace, so off we went searching for it!

Ah Seah Teochew Porridge spans over 2 shop fronts, and there were people seated at almost every table even at 2pm!

There were many dishes available and we ended up selecting minced meat balls, fish cake, spinach, lala and mixed intestines, as well as 2 porridge and 2 rice ($29.60).

The mixed intestines consisted of 大肠头, 粉肠and 生肠, and it was the highlight of the meal for me! I had never had this 生肠 before and it was kinda firm yet soft, very interesting taste! But after I googled and discover it to be 输卵管, I’m not so sure if I want to eat it again… Hahaha! 😦

The spicy lala was also quite delicious, but I still think that the version by Ban Leong Wah Hoe Seafood 万隆华和海鲜菜馆 at Casuarina Road is the best.

There was a separate drinks stall that had a rather nice ice jelly drink. It was self-service for me, including taking bottled drinks and attempting to reach the serving tray placed almost out of reach for my height, but I also saw some people being served. Not too sure how it worked, maybe it was self-service for me because I went to the counter to place order?

Daawat Tandoori @Upper Thomson

Bright red signboards

Bright red signboards

We had originally planned to eat something else, but the fish head curry offer made us changed our mind 🙂

You see we have a soft-spot for fish head curry, and we tried to sample any place that we can lay our hands on. So this big vertical banner was just calling to us, and we definitely can’t refuse.

We almost always passed by this restaurant whenever we walked along Upper Thomson but never really took notice. Maybe its because Indian cuisine has never been one of the those that we craved for most of the time.

The restaurant was brightly-lit and had quite a simple setting. There was a mounted TV set that was showing some Hindi movie that kind of reminded us of Bhutan. 🙂 The waiters were polite and took our orders swiftly.

The Black Sheep Cafe @Upper Thomson

Thematic posters

Thematic posters

We walked past this restaurant the last time but didn’t venture in because although it calls itself a cafe, it’s more like a restaurant.

So tonight when we ran out of ideas for dinner, this restaurant just jumped out of our mind!

The wall posters in this restaurant has, of course, the black sheep theme! There’s even a poster of The Last Supper but all the disciples are black sheep! Haha…

There are not many tables and seats inside, but the ambience is quite relax and with smooth piped-in music, the environment makes for an ideal setting for a quiet meal with love ones.

Sun Ray Cafe @Serangoon Gardens

Quote from the menu

Quote from the menu

We had initially intended to check out The Coffee Daily… But we walked past Sun Ray Cafe first and the very friendly host, plus the phrase “We roast our coffee” made us pause our steps and give its neighbour a skip 😛

This cafe occupies 2 shop houses and one shop house is specially catered for diners with pets! We saw a couple of diners came in with their dogs and both were happily having their meals together!

Carpenter and Cook Jr @Upper Thomson

Same frontage

Same frontage

Having only just a coffee at Whale & Cloud is definitely not enough, so we venture on to find breakfast!

Carpenter and Cook (in Lorong Kilat) opened a new takeaway outlet in Jasmine Road and they named it Carpenter and Cook Jr. The website says no seating here, but there are still some counter seats inside and a couple of alfresco chairs if you want to just laze around and watch the world pass-by…

Besides selling freshly home-made baked goods and confectionery, they also sell curated vintage furniture, home decor, as well as provide dessert tables, styling services, vintage props and decor for weddings, parties, photo-shoots and more!

This interesting place was setup by 3 friends, a Carpenter (Phoebe who picks out beautiful vintage pieces), a Cook (Shenn who trained at the prestigious Cordon Bleu in London) and a And (Eunice who likes to dabble in a bit of everything). 🙂

Burpz Cafe & Bakery @AMK

Newly opened!

Newly opened!

Nice deco!

Nice deco!

We chanced upon the website while surfing for neighborhood cafés and were pleasantly surprised by this new establishment that had opened only on May this year!

So while we were waiting for our blueberry cheesecake pie to cool down in the fridge, we brought our niece there for an early dinner!

The cafe was small but had both indoor and outdoor seating. Plenty of new magazines available for browsing and free wifi was available (get password from the staff), so we ended up spending a few hours here 🙂

GRUB @Bishan Park 1

After a slow walk...

After a slow walk…

We were up early and took a slow walk (part of our new exercise regime) to Bishan Park!

It was a leisurely 40-min walk and at the end of it, we decided to go to GRUB (again!!) for breakfast today!

As we arrived shortly after it was opened for the day, we didn’t have to queue (or use the unique queue system which they shared with Wild Honey), yeah!

One Man Coffee @Upper Thomson

The alphabet chairs!

The alphabet chairs!

Self-labelled napkins

We have heard so much about this ‘One Man’ that we must come! This is a specialty coffee concept store that that focuses on the art of the espresso and shares the space with Crust Gourmet Pizza Bar. It brews coffee and all-day breakfast until 5pm and hands the store over to Crust Pizza for them to serve up think-crust pizza. How cool is that?

Yahava Koffeeworks @Upper Thomson

Give me coffee and no one gets hurt

Give me coffee and no one gets hurt

We have been coming here (a bit less regularly than we would have wanted) for its wonderful coffee. But we have never posted about it. Maybe we didn’t want too many people to know about it, lest it disturb the serenity of this wonderful place… Haha…

We were introduced to Yahava by wifey’s friend and after our first visit, we immediately loved the place!

It’s a very simple setting with large tables and chairs and a set of cozy sofa right at the middle of the cafe. There is a wall-mounted projector and I presumed the area can be turned into a mini-lecture area when they are conducting classes. Yes they do conduct courses through The Yahava Koffee Academy which offers barista training courses for all skill levels. But I seriously doubt anyone could concentrate in such a lovely aromatic place, complete with soft music and soothing lights…
