There was a new kid on the block and we decided that the other Japanese restaurant, Fukuyichi, was probably not going to close down anytime soon, since it had been around for quite some time already… So it was Kaiware for us!

Yellow Cup Coffee @Central Square

Happy couple!

Happy couple!

We had just finished our dim sum lunch at Luk Yu (after wifey had her event), and was hunting around for coffee and relaxation. As usual, our trusty FourSquare app listed quite a  number of cafes around this area. Wanting to try something new, we walked away from the usual Duxton area instead and chanced upon Yellow Cup Coffee.

This is a unique cafe with 4 branches around the island. The uniqueness lies in that all their cups were, of course, yellow! The deco at this Central Sqaure branch is very simple, with a few large tables inside and a couple of alfresco tables. Coffee counter is a long bench with coffee machine and cake fridge and simple kitchen equipment sufficient to make breakfast items, which they also offers, besides freshly brewed coffee and artisan breads and pastry.

Luk Yu Teahouse & Restaurant @Chinatown Point

They brand their own cutlery

They brand their own cutlery

At the area for a Saturday morning meeting and decided to reward myself with some dim sum!

Being a rather hot day, we decided to try Luk Yu Teahouse & Restaurant at Chinatown Point, which is air-conditioned.

We have tried the Luk Yu Teahouse & Restaurant in Hong Kong but this is apparently not affiliated whatsoever with them. This one in Singapore is under the Swatow Seafood Group of restaurants (there’s another branch in ION).

The deco is distinctively oriental with waiters and waitresses wearing oriental uniforms. They were also quite upmarket with their own set of cutlery down to the sauce dispenser.

Jamie’s Italian @Vivocity

Jamie's first (and maybe last) restaurant in Singapore

Jamie’s first (and maybe last) restaurant in Singapore

Hubby had been wanting to try out this place for a while, so since we were kinda nearby, and we managed to make a booking just a couple of hours before, we decided to give this place a chance… Despite the terrible reviews online. Probably a mistake… Haha!

We arrived much earlier than our reserved timing, but the staff was happy to sit us, as the place was mostly empty at 6+ on this weekday. We were a little surprised, as we had previously read that the restaurant was booked ahead for weeks during its first few months of operations… In my mind I was wondering if the reviews were so bad that people stopped coming, or if it was simply too early?

Our server for the day was probably a new hire, for he was so nervous when reciting the specials for the day and kept referring to his notes.

Strangers’ Reunion @Duxton

Cafe Latte, as usual

Cafe Latte, as usual

Wifey was in town for meeting so we decided to look around SGH for dinner!

Met up with her at SGH and walked out towards Neil Road. Whip out my iPhone and Strangers’ Reunion jumped right out of FourSquare. This is a cafe which was opened quite a while ago when the cafe crave started in Singapore. Have seen many pictures, especially of their buttermilk waffles, all over Instagram but have yet to try. Since this was a quiet night, we could find seats and so we decided to have our dinner here!

The deco was quite a simple, industrial look, with exposed pipes and trunking. Quite a number of tables and seats around, and if you are only here for waffles, they have opened another outlet called Waffle Slayer just next door!

Cream Tea @The Rubens

Cream Tea Set

Cream Tea Set

We had difficulty making reservations for an afternoon tea session at the more popular places, as we had failed to realise earlier that it was Halloween today. The hotel staff tried to help us call a few places, but alas, all were fully booked.

Hot scones

Eventually, on the actual day, they offered us cream tea at their own cafe instead. This was fine with us, since we were still too full from breakfast anyway :p

We had Earl Grey with scones, clotted cream and jam. We loved that the scones were served warm and the clotted cream was oh-so-lovely and light, we had to resist getting more!

Vale Victoria @Victoria

Latte and Hot Chocolate

Latte and Hot Chocolate

It was our last breakfast in London, so we gotta have more traditional London food!

We had walked past Vale Victoria when we went to TILES, so we decided to give it a try as well because it looked like an authentic London cafe, and there were many customers when we walked past the last time.

The decorations were actually quite old school and the staff were all dressed up for Halloween, making this a rather interesting (and scary at first because we didn’t expect the face of the waitress to be full of blood!) breakfast experience 🙂

Micky’s Fish Bar @Paddington

Simple Fish & Chips

Simple Fish & Chips

Micky’s Fish Bar was a short 10-minute walk from Paddington Station, and was a no-frills place that Michelin-star chef Heston Blumenthal (he’s one of the celebrity chefs in MasterChef Australia) frequented during his childhood. Simple menu, simple food.

Hubby enjoyed his Cod & Chips, while I preferred the Haddock & Chips. The fish fillets were big in portion, fresh and the batter was excellent! The over-generous chips were thick and yummy. However, hubby preferred the mushy peas at The Tiles.

It was a lovely catchup with M and her hubby, and we thoroughly enjoyed the chit-chat session under the friendly atmosphere. We also exchanged (our little) tips on London sight-seeing!

After dinner, we had a bit of recreational activity, where hubby and I posed at the same spot outside St Mary’s Hospital, where Prince William and Kate Middleton emerged from, with their newborn baby, haha!

Patisserie Valerie @Paddington Station

We were meeting our friend, M, and her hubby, who were currently staying in London, for dinner… M promised to bring hubby to a lovely Fish & Chips place, so that hubby can finally announce to he world that he has tried some authentic Fish & Chips :p

We met at Paddington Station, which was near where M was staying and it was also a short walk to the Fish & Chips place. As we were early, we decided to have a mini tea break first… Haha!

We have heard great reviews on Patisserie Valerie, and there happened to be an outlet at Paddington Station, so this was where we parked ourselves.

We were walking and walking till we were so tired, before we finally spotted Primrose Bakery, that was recommended by LadyIronChef!

It was also upon reaching this place that I realized it was the same shop where the gals and I bought some cookies for a quick dinner prior to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory!
