Auntie Kim’s Korean Restaurant @Upper Thomson

Seafood pancake

Seafood pancake

I was craving for some Korean pancakes so it was a choice between Parker or Auntie Kim’s. Decided on Auntie because Parker is better for BBQ but Auntie is more well-rounded… Lol! Unfortunately, food standards seemed to have dropped as compared to our previous visit 😦

Auntie Kim’s is along the same stretch of shophouses with UOB, Kampung Chicken, Dino’s, a Japanese restaurant and Ritz Apple Strudel. The restaurant was brightly-lit and there are some al-fresco seats if you prefer to stay outdoors. Deco was quite pleasant and you feel welcomed when you step into the restaurant.

The seafood pancake came really fast after we ordered our dinner! It was quite yummy but we hardly saw any seafood… but there was only one type of pancakes available, so we were pretty sure it was supposed to be seafood pancake… haha! Continue reading

Brauhaus Restaurant & Pub @United Square

We have always walked past this place but never got the chance to try the food. It’s either the place was crowded, or we were attracted by something else along the way 😛

Today, after getting disappointed by a new place (why invite us to try and not bothering to inform in advanced that half the food choices are sold out?), we decided to come here since there was no crowd.. Haha!

Live music started at 8pm, so we got to enjoy some music while we waited for our food. It’s quite a nice place to chill, and the singer tonight had a rather soothing and pleasant voice. This place boosts of the longest beer menu in Asia with more than 150 brands from all over the world, ranging from Asia to Europe to US. However, we weren’t in the drinking mood today 🙂

Cucina @Holland Village

I think we are running out of food options at Holland Village! Despite us attempting to eat healthier because we were nursing not-so-good tummies from last night’s dinner, we ended up at Cucina Authentic Italian Restaurant for pasta…. Because we have tried almost all other food options along this stretch :p

This address seems to be for Amici Italian Restaurant, and hubby did saw the word ‘AMICI’ on the chef’s apron. Whatever it is, the place looks cosy enough with soft lighting and an earthly feel with rough bricks lining the wall. Not too many seats but comfortable enough to let guests mingle around. The kitchen has a glass window and we can see the chefs preparing the food from our seats.

Wild Honey @Mandarin Galleria

Busy Orchard Road outside

Busy Orchard Road outside

Went to run errands in town and found a breakfast place! The queue system was similar to Grub @ Bishan, and hubby was pleasantly surprised that the system knew his name after he keyed in his mobile number to join the queue. Turns out that both Wild Honey and Grub are under the same management!

La Petite Cuisine @Upper Thomson

Salmon Salad

Salmon Salad

Wifey left office rather late today and met me at Upper Thomson in the hope of having more food options in the late hours. We found that La Petite was rather quiet and empty tonight and since we had a pretty good experience the first time we tried it, we decided to give it another go!

La Petite Cuisine has 2 branches with the other one being at Serene Centre (strangely we walked past the Serene Centre branch twice last year and it looked like it’s closed down). They served quite affordable French cuisine and do not charge service charge and GST. Decor and ambiance is homely with red-white checkered table cloth, French paintings on the walls, and free-flow of self-service water. Menu is a simple piece of paper and you need to order and pay at the counter before food is served to you. There are indoor seats (6 tables) and alfresco seats along the walkway just outside the restaurant.

Once Upon a Thyme @Square 2

Delicious pasta

Delicious pasta

Couldn’t quite make up my mind on what to grab for lunch and was just passing by the takeaway stalls at basement of Square 2. The pasta here seemed more appealing than the rest and without a queue, so that was how I decided on lunch 😛

The seafood pasta was cooked within minutes and still remained pipping hot in the takeaway container by the time I reached office.

The pasta was surprisingly delicious! The tomato based sauce was full of flavour and the herbs tasted refreshing. The generous amount of ingredients (about 3 pieces of fish and prawns each, and quite a few squid rings) and the al-dente spaghetti was quite filling, despite the seemingly small portion. It was a great lunch!

Ramen Keisuke Tori King @100AM

Very prominent noren

Very prominent noren

Since we were around the area, having just had coffee at Group Therapy, we decided to go check out that very famous Teppei restaurant in Orchid Hotel that we failed to make reservations for… The restaurant had opened up dinner reservation slots earlier on 2 Jan 2014 and the phone line was jammed up on the very first day with all slots from Mar 2014 to Jun 2014 taken up by the end of first day!

We were quite surprised by the number of Japanese restaurants in the area, and at Orchid Hotel, there were also a ramen place and gyoza place that had super long queues! There was no queue at Teppei, because you had to make reservations for dinner at the 21-seater… Haha! So we were just looking at the menu and a very friendly lady sitting outside the restaurant was giving us recommendations on where else to check out, and that we should come queue for lunch instead.

Since we weren’t hungry yet, we decided to heed the lady’s advice and stroll to 100AM next to Amara Hotel to check out Ramen Keisuke Tori King… Which also had a long queue… Pengz!

Group Therapy @Duxton

Interesting sign board

Interesting sign board

Ended work today around 4pm at Clarke Quay area and went over to Chinatown to meet up with hubby to enjoy the buzz of the festive season with only 2 more weeks to Chinese New Year! 🙂 We walked till our legs were aching and got ourselves 1.8kg worth of Taiwanese fruit jelly. Together with a laptop, they were too heavy and we decided that we needed some coffee therapy!

Did a quick search of cafés nearby on our Foursquare app and decided on Group Therapy. This cafe was tugged on the second floor along a long stretch of restored shop houses along Duxton Road, and we almost missed the small entrance had it not been a tip on Foursquare :p The door knob was actually an ice cream scoop nailed to the door… Haha!

The deco is very cafe-like, with some corners tugged with sofas and big tall tables lining up in the middle of the premise. Ambiance is cosy with soft music playing in the background, and the soothing lighting, together with sunlight from the windows made the place a very nice place for small gatherings.

Kabe no Ana @nex

Complimentary!

Complimentary!

The month is ending and so is our Ichiban Rewards Card, so we are here at nex to spend it away at Kabe no Ana!

This Japanese pasta and pizza restaurant is part of the RE&S Group of restaurants and this outlet at nex is part of its Japanese Food Street called Shokutsu 10. The restaurants/cafes here in the food street are Green Pumpkin Japanese Bakery, Green Pumpkin Japanese Bakery Café, Kabe no Ana Japanese Pasta, Tontei Pork Restaurant, Shimbashi Soba, Ichiban Boshi Japanese Restaurant, Men-Ichi Japanese Ramen, Yaki Yaki Bo Teppanyaki Restaurant, and Kuriya Japanese Fresh Fish Market. We often had a hard time deciding which one to try.

Today we let the complimentary items in our Ichiban Rewards Card decide and those on offer at Kabe no Ana looked more pleasing to us at this moment. 🙂

Bari Uma Ramen @United Square

All noodles are handmade

All noodles are handmade

Marutama Ramen shifted out of United Square and it’s premises was replaced by Bari Uma Ramen and Tamoya Udon. We chanced upon this shop while looking for late dinner and decided to give it a try!

This restaurant was newly opened on 3 December 2013 and there were not many patrons as yet (or maybe it’s because it’s almost 9pm when we arrived, haha!). A big signboard (which says that all the noodles in the restaurant are handmade) sits above the see-through kitchen, and the list of various ramen is written vertically on wooden boards beside the signboard. Seats are spacious enough and the waitresses were helpful and prompt in their service (again it may be because of the time).

However there was a group of diners beside us in the other corner who were laughing their lungs out, and the acoustic of the restaurant seemed to echo the already-loud laughter even louder. Not so conducive for 2 very tired persons who just want to have a hot, comfy noodle soup.
