We were too early for claypot rice (they opens at 11am), so we decided to head for brunch at the nearby Common Chefs Cafe & Bakery, which opened only 2 weeks ago (22 Jun 2016).

We were here to check out the recently opened ramen place!
Since we read that the Chef Tan-san was the first Tonkatsu Chef in Singapore, we figured that it might be prudent to order the Premium Pork Loin Tonkatsu Set ($19.90 nett), and the Tonkatsu Ramen ($14.90) which uses the normal pork loin.
Each Tonkatsu set came with roasted sesame (which we had fun grinding), tonjiru soup (which was awesome broth simmered with Japanese pork and very rich in flavour), pickles, fruits, as well as unlimited servings of Niigata rice and crunchy cabbage (which we could barely finished the first serving).
We were here for some supper, but unfortunately, the kitchen has closed, by the time we reached after 9pm. Nevermind, the drinks and cakes were still available 🙂
Cold water was freely available at the counter near the restroom. There were also some magazines available for browsing. It was quite a nice place to chill out, but a pity that we did not manage to try out the food.

We felt like we stepped back in time upon entering this place 😮
Very nostalgic decorations, oldies playing, plus the dim yellow lighting, time seemed to have come to a standstill at this founded in 1981 cafe. Service charge and GST did not exist here too! Oh, and only cash accepted, just like the good old days.
We had to order and pay first, before picking any bar counter seat of our fancy. Things were done nice and slow, and our items came one by one, with the staff just passing the item over the counter to us when ready, with a smile. We could also watch them prepare our food and drinks since it was really an open concept; there are no glass windows separating the customers and the stove. One could also browse the available magazines while having a drink. Here were what we tried:
As part of our redeem-voucher-coz-Starhub-points-expiring exercise, we had a 1-for-1 $60++ 6-course Omakase deal at Ishinomaki Grill and Sake. It was a fairly popular place for Saturday lunch, and there were at least 2 other couples enjoying the same deal, all seated at the same corner of the restaurant.

We had past by here a few times in the evening, and it was usually very quiet. This time, we decided to come here for dim sum, resolutely walking past the relatively empty white beehoon along the way.
We were looking for coffee after dinner, and had read about this place, but unfortunately the coffee machine was already shut down by the time we reached, around 20 minutes before closing. Hubby had to settle for tea, which turned out to be a rather excellent choice 🙂

Hokkaido Sushi had recently started a promotion for their Ala-Carte Buffet ($43++ per pax), and we decided to have our dinner here!

JY brought us to this restaurant for lunch (after our delicious pre-lunch snack), and it was indeed a good decision!
Food here was affordable and delicious, and service was efficient! What we had:
Note: Only cash is accepted, and water can be purchased for $1 per bottle.
