It had been a while since we last visited 九份 Jiufen, and our main objective today was to laze our afternoon away drinking tea (just like what we did 9 years ago) 🙂
We took the train to 瑞芳火車站 Ruifang Train Station, and as it was close to noon, we figured we should grab a bite first at the 瑞芳美食街 (Ruifang Food Street) just opposite the train station.
Once again, we got ourselves a 龍鳳腿 Dragon Phoenix Leg (NT10), which was made of minced chicken and cabbage wrapped by 豬网油 (layer of pork lard which looked like spider web) and then deep fried. This was still as good as ever! We also had 貢丸湯 Meat Ball Soup (NT30) and 豬血湯 Pig’s Blood Soup (NT30) because the vampire wife needed her dosage to satisfy her bloodthirsty cravings 😛
We had wanted to check out 鶯歌老街 Yingge Old Street and 三峽老街 Sanxia Old Street quite some time back, but somehow, we always ended up dropping them from the itinerary. This time, we finally made it here! 😀
After a quick breakfast at 老圓環食品 Lao Yuanhuan, and then dropping off our bags at the hotel, we headed to 台北車站 Taipei Main Station and took a 區間車 local railway train to 鶯歌火車站 Yingge Train Station.
After a good rest at the hotel, we were off to 國立國父紀念館 National Dr Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall.
Dad was very interested in the galleries and we spent about 3 hours here, catching both the hourly 儀隊交接 exchanging of guards ceremony, as well as the 降旗儀式 flag lowering ceremony at around 5.30pm.
It was our first time catching the flag lowering ceremony, thanks to a local who advised us to stay on, during our chat in the gardens. It was certainly worth staying on for it!
From the gardens, we also had a good view of Taipei 101, as we watched it being lit up as night fell.
By the time we left National Dr Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall, it was almost 7pm. Hence, we just went to 北平都一處 Beijing Do It True restaurant directly opposite the memorial hall.
It was shopping night with our niece and we ended up at Plaza Singapura! Long queues everywhere and we spotted a relatively shorter queue at Skinny Pizza so off we went to queue!
We got seats rather quickly and ordered a pumpkin salad, meatball Neapolitan pizza and turkey ham pizza.
The pumpkin bits and macadamia nuts were toasted and still warm when served, very addictive!
