Handlebar @Sembawang

Our friend offered to drive us somewhere ulu for dinner, and we figured that the Handlebar was definitely located at an ulu enough place, and almost inaccessible at night without a ride. We did walk to this place during broad daylight before, back when Bottle Tree Village was still around, and it was a fair bit of walk! So much easier with a car 😀

2016-07-30 20.42.44We were seated by one of the benches, and it was fortunate that we had called in advance to make reservations, for it was full house tonight!

  • Blossom Onions ($12++): Crispy and sweet, this was an very enjoyable starter for sharing.
  • Cocaine Wings ($14++): We opted for 3 mild and 3 medium heat levels. Depending on your taste buds, mild was too hot for hubby, medium was very acceptable to our friend, and I thought that medium heat had a lingering spicy aftertaste that lasted quite a while.
  • Righteous Ribs ($28++): The meat was tender, and potatoes were very nice! The side salad was a welcome green for our overly carnivorous meal.
  • Slap Yo Momma Pork Chop ($26++): We opted for a mix of both fried and grilled bone-in pork loin. The fried version was really good, but inside the crispy surface lay a very thick and juicy pork loin. The grilled version was a tad too dry, except for the fatty parts.

We liked the environment, and it was very relaxing to chill here. Water was available freely.

Dragon Bowl Restaurant @Greenwich V

A relatively new kid on the block, we decided to satisfy our dim sum cravings here!

Our first impressions was that this was a kids-friendly restaurant, as there were corner bumpers at all tables. The other 2 groups of customers all had kids in tow. Food started arriving within 10 minutes upon ordering.

Napoleon Food & Wine Bar @Telok Ayer

Chope had a flash giveaway for noodles and pasta today, and so… We made changes to our dinner plans and ended up at Napoleon 😛

And we ended up realizing that there are so many restaurants in this stretch that we have been wanting to try out 🙂

Putien Restaurant 莆田菜馆 @Kitchener Road

We discovered our expiring Putien return voucher, and very promptly made reservations at the Kitchener Road branch, haha! Also because it just won itself a 1-Star in the 2016 Michelin Guide Singapore!

PocoLoco @Ang Mo Kio

Today we took a short walk from Ang Mo Kio MRT Station to this neighbourhood restaurant for some very affordable Italian food 🙂

  • French Quail with Egg Tortino ($15 nett): One of the today’s special for appetiser, this was very delightful! The quail was de-boned, making it real easy for us to eat. Pan-fried skin was crispy, and the meat was tender. The egg tortino was soft and abit like custard, and hubby likened it to a hard version of chawanmushi. Hahahaha, it was quite delicious and had a lovely truffle aroma to it. Pity that they forgot to remove the top layer of paper, which they were really shocked when we discovered it; we were too, for they had drizzled balsamic vinegar on it! Other than this little blip, this dish was good.
  • Capesante ($12): This was one of the 3 chef’s recommendations for appetiser. The 2 baked scallops were fresh, but perhaps their thunder were stolen by the capsicum puree with flavoured butter and cheese in this dish.
  • Pan Fried Pork Milanese ($22): Today’s special, and our favourite. This breaded pork fillet had a good balance of meat and fats. Very succulent and addictive. Perfect for sharing! The potatoes by the side were delicious too.
  • Nero ($12): We are unable to resist ordering squid ink pasta 😛 It was actually a pretty good plate of pasta, with the spaghetti done just right, but the rest of the food we tried were just better. Is it normal that we always inevitably ended up fighting with the membrane of the squid whenever we order this dish? Made it a bit tough to eat. We missed the squid from yesterday… Haha 😛
  • Tiramisu ($6): We almost did not order it, but the pictures look oh-so-good, and we were glad that we tried it! The generous amount of mascarpone cream made it look like melted ice cream, and we liked the overall texture and the balanced taste of this lightly-sweetened dessert.

Service in general was pleasant and friendly.

Note: They do not serve water, so it was $2 Dasani distilled water by the bottle. Considering that prices were nett, and the food portions were actually pretty decent, plus the food was good mostly delicious, we do consider this a value-for-money dinner, and a gem in this neighbourhood. 🙂

Candlenut @Dorsett Residences

2016-07-25 20.33.14Yet another day ended with a late meeting nearby, and hubby went to la kopi at Roosevelt’s Diner  Bar while waiting for me. While I could find the correct MRT exit to Dorsett Hotel, I couldn’t find the cafe.. *faintz*

So hubby came to look for me, and Candlenut, who has just won a star in 2016 Michelin Guide Singapore, was just right there! There appeared to be some available seats close to 8.30pm, so we decided to try our luck and walked in without reservations 🙂

They were serving a unique Peranakan tasting ‘ah-ma-kase’ menu of inspired Peranakan cuisine at $68++ per pax, with a choice for dessert out of 5 options. We were not fans of sweet desserts, and I did not particularly like kuehs, so it was tough to choose!

Teppei Syokudo 哲平食堂 @Millenia Walk

2016-07-22 21.01.10After our lovely dinner at Enbu, we strolled around the area and ended up at Millenia Walk, where we spotted Teppei Syokudo 哲平食堂!

This is a series of small eateries opened by the same Teppei Group of Restaurants which has one of the longest waiting list for its omakase dinner!

Since we did not had any carbo earlier at Enbu, it was the perfect excuse to have their famous Kaisendon 😛

For $21, we got ourselves a Kaisendon, with additional scallop, as well as a drink. Wow, they were certainly generous with their fish slices and chunky cubes! The fish were fresh and it was delicious!

It was a great treat to end our night out 🙂

Enbu 炎舞 @Suntec

2016-07-22 20.07.48We were back to Eat At Seven!

Originally we had intended to try out the tendon at Tempura Kohaku 天ぷら琥珀, but the queue proved to be rather ridiculous; it took up the entire length of the huge billboard outside the restaurant!

Since there was no queue at the rest of the eateries, it made sense to just try out the other places that we had yet to try!

Enbu was one of the first restaurants to open at Eat At Seven one year ago and we chanced upon it a few times but never really tried this casual izakaya which specializes in charcoal and straw grilling. Tonight this looked like a good option 🙂

Whisk & Paddle @Punggol Waterway

img_0199We were nearby the area and decided to take a slow walk over to check out this place which we had paddled past a few weeks ago when we went to Coney Island.

On a late Saturday morning, the cafe was quite crowded (I guess many were here for brunch), but there were still a few tables available, so we did not had to queue at all 🙂

We already knew what we wanted to order, gathering from online reviews (and offline reviews from friends) and placed our orders!
