Koon Buk Kut Teh (坤)肉骨茶 @Cheong Chin Nam Road

Signature Bak Kuk Teh

Signature Bak Kuk Teh

In the area to meet friends and decided to check out the food options along this stretch of road (which has changed a fair bit due to the construction of Downtown Line, and sadly, our favourite Liu Sha Bao is GONE!!).

The bak kut teh signboard caught our attention and we decided to give it a go, despite the lack of crowd.

The interior was simple, and kind of reminded us of the Malaysian-styled kopi tiams which we saw in Malacca and Penang – simple in ambience but winning customers over through good food. Would this BKT shop give us the same experience?

Little Hiro (previously known as Burger Shack) @King’s Arcade

Here for dinner after a stroll from office… I wanted to jog, but old le… 😦

We walked from Botanic Garden MRT along Bukit Timah Road and passed by our usual hunt in Cluny Court, and then a changed in sign made us looked up. This used to be Burger Shack, but has now revamped itself into Little Hiro, a Hawaiian-Japanese BBQ & Grill eatery. The owner is the son of the owner of Island Creamery, and Little Hiro was the result of his creative juices after attending a wedding in Hawaii which ended with a Hawaiian-style BBQ. Little Hiro is a tribute to the groom’s father and chef at the BBQ (whose name is Hiro).

Cucina @Holland Village

I think we are running out of food options at Holland Village! Despite us attempting to eat healthier because we were nursing not-so-good tummies from last night’s dinner, we ended up at Cucina Authentic Italian Restaurant for pasta…. Because we have tried almost all other food options along this stretch :p

This address seems to be for Amici Italian Restaurant, and hubby did saw the word ‘AMICI’ on the chef’s apron. Whatever it is, the place looks cosy enough with soft lighting and an earthly feel with rough bricks lining the wall. Not too many seats but comfortable enough to let guests mingle around. The kitchen has a glass window and we can see the chefs preparing the food from our seats.

Barossa @Holland Village

We were hunting for food at Holland Village when we spotted One-for-One Australian Beef Buffet (usual price $43.90++) that was available every Wednesday and Saturday. We had to show the waitress that we had “Liked” their Facebook page before we could start the dinner. There was a time limit of 90 min, but we only had 60 min, since the buffet ends at 10pm… yeah, it was a super late dinner for us!

We liked that there was live music indoors, but that meant that we had to sit outdoors because it was too noisy indoors. Luckily, it was quite a cooling night, so it was pretty relaxing to chill outdoors with live music in the background, and we could still engage in a decent conversation.

Peperoni Pizzeria @Greenwood Ave

Rustic feel

Rustic feel

A wonderful Saturday and we woke up early to challenge (yet again) ourselves to Bukit Timah hill, and of course the wonderful Liu Sha Bao after that! But the highlight of the day was definitely not only the baos, but the yummy Italian food that came after the baos!

We made our way to the nearest bus stop to Greenwood Ave (one of the outlets), and low and behold, it started to rain!! And very very heavily at that! Between the few of us (and the few umbrellas we shared), we were totally drenched by the time we walked in to the rustic-feeling place…

Miao Yi Vegetarian Restaurant 妙益素食楼 @Coronation Plaza

We decided to go healthy today and came to Miao Yi Vegetarian Restaurant.. wow, haven’t been here since JC days and it’s still going on strong!

Claypot Tofu with Assortment

Claypot Tofu with Assortment

Claypot Tofu with Assortment ($10): The tofu was very smooth! But the fried skin tasted a tad sour-ish. The gravy had a hint of herbal taste, quite delicious! Assortment refers to the peas, mushrooms, yam bits, carrots and wong bok. Continue reading

Bar Bar Black Sheep @Cluny

No service charge, No GST, No tap water

No service charge, No GST, No tap water

It was a quiet Monday evening and we were the only diners indoors. Got a couple of Caucasians outdoors, so we practically had the entire place to ourselves.

Western, Thai and Indian cuisines are served here, so we ended up ordering a beef Phad Thai, Butter Chicken, Palak Paneer and some garlic naans. There was a beer promotion, so we ordered a glass of Kronenbourg 1664 to share (mineral water costs $1 nett per bottle).

A simple place for meals

A simple place for meals

It’s a Monday evening and I had just finished a walk/jog from workplace to Botanic Gardens, and met hubby at Botanic Gardens for a meal at Cluny Court just beside Botanic Gardens.

Incidentally, Cluny Court is a 2-storey old building located just next to Botanic Gardens MRT, the French Embassy, Serene Centre, and across the road from Adam Rd Hawker Centre. This beautiful building houses a variety of shops, including Cold Storage, da Paolo Gastronomia, Brill, Bar Bar Black Sheep, Simply Bread, and of course relish by Wildrocket!
