ファーマーズマーケット@国連大学前 Farmer’s Market at UNU @Shibuya

2015-11-29 13.53.422015-11-29 14.14.04For this trip, we were searching for special events in Tokyo and found that there was a regular weekend farmer’s market at United Nations University.

Hubby was very excited about this, and so we planned to go there for lunch. We had initially thought that we would be snacking there, but it turned out that there was actually an entire section devoted to food, with food trucks, proper tables and seats 😀

We tried:

  • Tomato Ketchup Omu Rice Set (¥800) from 東京オムレツ: This was a hearty portion of omu rice and vegetables. The omulette was fluffy and the tomato fried rice inside was flavourful.
  • Bacon and Egg Pancake (¥450) from Betty’s Pancake: This was a surprised find! The soft and fluffy pancake covered a huge piece of tender bacon, egg mayo and green vegetable to make a very delicious mouthful!

We were pleasantly surprised by the good quality of the food here! Hope that we will have a chance to re-visit next time to try out the other food trucks 🙂

台北夜市 2015 Taipei Night Market Part 3

IMG_1314

Tonight, we decided to check out a smaller night market, 遼寧夜市 Liaoning Night Market. It was only one stop away at 捷運南京復興站 Nanjing Fuxing Station from our hotel.

Upon reaching the station, in our excitement, we exited the nearest gate to find ourselves facing two exits, and nowhere to walk to Exit 2 😮 The station map indicated that it might be a long walk to the other end, so we sought help from the station control. The staff seemed to meet blur tourists like us all the time, and very calmly gave us a laminated card and guided us through the gate and sent us along the direction to the correct exit, located at the green line side. We then passed the card to the staff at the other counter and we were good to go!

Once we were out of Exit 2, we made a right turn to 遼寧街 Liaoning Street, away from the huge pedestrian crossing. We then walked though a somewhat curvy small road to reach 遼寧夜市 Liaoning Night Market. This is a rather local night market and there is no clustering of stalls or closure of roads. We tried out 2 of the more popular stalls.

台北夜市 2015 Taipei Night Market Part 2

So after our walk at 永康街 Yongkang Street, we decided that we shall conquer a couple of night markets along the 中和新蘆線 Zhonghe Xinglu Line (Line 4) since last night we did the same along the 板南線 Bannan Line (Line 5).

There were a couple of night markets located conveniently along the line, notably 輔大花園觀光夜市 Fuda Flower Night Market located right next to 輔仁大學 Fu Jen University, and 三和夜市 Sanhe Night Market located near to 捷運台北橋站 MRT Taipei Bridge Station.

We had initially planned to come here the day before (Thursday), but realized (only in the afternoon) that 輔大夜市 Fuda Night Market closes on Mondays and Thursdays! To think we had thought that all night markets in Taipei open daily, haha.

台北夜市 2015 Taipei Night Market Part 1

The start of Guangzhou St Night Market

The start of Guangzhou St Night Market

After lunch, we went back to the Pintoo shop and got what we came to Taipei for: loads and loads of puzzles! We bought so much we had to pack them into a carton box to carry it! And it had to rain just when we were about to walk back to our hotel! Totally unexpected because we read that Taipei would be hot summer the whole while! In any case, we walked back to the hotel in a small umbrella and a huge carton box of puzzles. 🙂

After checking in to our hotel and a short rest, it was time to hit the Night Market!

There are 4 night markets near Longshan Temple MRT 捷運龍山寺, 3 of which were kind of interlinked. So we did the Guangzhou Street 廣州街觀光夜市, followed by Wuzhou Street 梧洲街夜市, and Huaxi Alley 華西街觀光夜市, before walking over to Xichang Street 西昌街夜市.

筲箕灣 Shau Kei Wan @Hong Kong

Happy couple

Happy couple

During our previous trip to Hong Kong, we enjoyed the Ping Shan Heritage Trail 元朗屏山文物徑 very much. This time, we decided to check out 筲箕灣 Shau Kei Wan, which was a fishing village in the olden times, and now, a place quite popular for food. We roughly followed the guide by the Hong Kong Tourism Board, that would bring us to various places of worship (link below).

But first, we needed breakfast! We took the MTR to Shau Kei Wan Station 筲箕灣站. From Exit A2, we walked along Aldrich Street 愛秩序街, and turn left into Kam Wa Street 金華街 to the Shau Kei Wan Street Market 筲箕灣街市. It was a very bustling place, with many locals doing their groceries, fishmongers with their fishes jumping around… What a sight!

Half day trip to Railway Market and Floating Market @Bangkok

Happy couple!

Happy couple!

Today would be our activity day!

We had breakfast with bread bought from the 7-11 store just beside the hotel when we came back last night after a long day of shopping and walking around Chinatown.

We had 8 adults and 3 children, so we managed to pre-book a half day tour in advance, and the driver-cum-tour-guide came to our hotel to pick us up in a very comfortable van.

The first stop was the Mae Klong Railway Market, and we had close to 45 minutes to wonder around the market before the scheduled train arrival.

Most tourists were at the stalls lined along the railway tracks, but there were actually many more stalls behind them, much like our local wet market.

Bali 2014 Day 3

[Here is the photostream of Bali 2014, for those who prefer pictures to tell a story. 🙂]

Day 3 in Bali!

Day 3 in Bali!

We woke up bright and early at 6am to prepare to go to the morning market! Hubby had French Toast with Ham and Egg, while I stuck to Bubur Ayam 😛

We were feeling quite tired because of the lack of quality sleep the night before due to the power trip. And this morning, we discovered that our safety deposit box in the room had malfunctioned (could be because of a weak battery) and we could not unlock it! 😮 Luckily, the staff was very prompt in action and managed to help us retrieve our stuff.

We were assured that the maintenance team would come by and ensure that everything was fine.

Taipei Trip Day 4 (Monday) – Jinguashi, Ningxia Night Market, Xia Gang Ye

Simply but delicious Minsu breakfast

Simply but delicious Minsu breakfast

Breakfast was served at 8:30am at the Minsu and we were stunned when we stepped out of our room at 8:30am sharp. All but one table were filled! Everyone was already tucking in and there was this mummy from a big family (Singaporeans :-() who practically swept away all the sandwiches. We were shocked by the speed and ferocity that everyone was attacking their breakfast 😮 I guess that they must all be rushing off, just like us, aiming to catch the 9:15am 臺灣好行 黃金福隆線 (Tour Taiwan Shuttle Bus Service – Golden Fulong Route) to 金瓜石 (Jinguashi). Luckily, the Minsu owners were also very quick in replenishing the food, so we still managed to have a hearty breakfast which consisted of very yummy home-made sandwiches, slightly burnt but still delicious thick corn soup, steamed buns and refreshing iced red tea/hot coffee.

Taipei Trip Day 2 (Saturday) – Addiction Aquatic Development, Yehliu, Coffee Alley, Gongguan Night Market

Slept in and went for late breakfast at 姜太太包子店 , this time getting a 韭菜肉包 (chives pork bun – loved the aroma of chives!) and 雪里红肉包 (pickled potherb mustard pork bun – the veggie was slightly bitter and crunchy), as well as the soya bean drink (slightly burnt taste today).

Addiction Aquatic Development

Addiction Aquatic Development

Took MRT to 捷運中山國中站 Zhongshan MRT Station, cross the road to take Bus #74 till terminal and walked less than 5min to reach 上引水產 (Addiction Aquatic Development). Actually we could have taken the bus from Zhongxiao Fuxing too but we didn’t know that till we checked out the bus route. Not much savings in time when comparing taking MRT for 2 stations and taking the bus directly (about 10 min bus ride between the 2 MRT stations).

Taipei Trip Day 1 (Friday) – Maokong, Shenkeng, Tonghua/Linjiang Night Market, EZ5

Flight TZ202

Flight TZ202

Let’s Scoot out of here! Thanks to the $0.02 promotion 2 months ago, we are Scooting out on a nice Friday morning! Very early indeed, on flight TZ202 departing at 12:55am on 13 Sep 2013 at Changi Airport T1 Gate F50. Check-in was a breeze as there was no queue when we arrived 2.5 hours before flight time.

Flight time was 4.5 hours and we touched down ahead of schedule at Taoyuan Airport in Taipei around 5:25am and were greeted by the beautiful sunrise. It was a very smooth flight, and the plane was very clean with very decent leg space! Descent was very lovely with the countless lights from the grounds that shone through as we watched the skies slowly change from dark to light.  Too bad there was a toddler crying for perhaps ⅓ of the time and was sometimes crying directly into hubby’s face so he didn’t get to rest much.
