Bright red signboards

We had originally planned to eat something else, but the fish head curry offer made us changed our mind 🙂

You see we have a soft-spot for fish head curry, and we tried to sample any place that we can lay our hands on. So this big vertical banner was just calling to us, and we definitely can’t refuse.

We almost always passed by this restaurant whenever we walked along Upper Thomson but never really took notice. Maybe its because Indian cuisine has never been one of the those that we craved for most of the time.

The restaurant was brightly-lit and had quite a simple setting. There was a mounted TV set that was showing some Hindi movie that kind of reminded us of Bhutan. 🙂 The waiters were polite and took our orders swiftly.

The Black Sheep Cafe @Upper Thomson

Thematic posters

Thematic posters

We walked past this restaurant the last time but didn’t venture in because although it calls itself a cafe, it’s more like a restaurant.

So tonight when we ran out of ideas for dinner, this restaurant just jumped out of our mind!

The wall posters in this restaurant has, of course, the black sheep theme! There’s even a poster of The Last Supper but all the disciples are black sheep! Haha…

There are not many tables and seats inside, but the ambience is quite relax and with smooth piped-in music, the environment makes for an ideal setting for a quiet meal with love ones.

Carpenter and Cook Jr @Upper Thomson

Same frontage

Same frontage

Having only just a coffee at Whale & Cloud is definitely not enough, so we venture on to find breakfast!

Carpenter and Cook (in Lorong Kilat) opened a new takeaway outlet in Jasmine Road and they named it Carpenter and Cook Jr. The website says no seating here, but there are still some counter seats inside and a couple of alfresco chairs if you want to just laze around and watch the world pass-by…

Besides selling freshly home-made baked goods and confectionery, they also sell curated vintage furniture, home decor, as well as provide dessert tables, styling services, vintage props and decor for weddings, parties, photo-shoots and more!

This interesting place was setup by 3 friends, a Carpenter (Phoebe who picks out beautiful vintage pieces), a Cook (Shenn who trained at the prestigious Cordon Bleu in London) and a And (Eunice who likes to dabble in a bit of everything). 🙂

One Man Coffee @Upper Thomson

The alphabet chairs!

The alphabet chairs!

Self-labelled napkins

Self-labelled napkins

We have heard so much about this ‘One Man’ that we must come! This is a specialty coffee concept store that that focuses on the art of the espresso and shares the space with Crust Gourmet Pizza Bar. It brews coffee and all-day breakfast until 5pm and hands the store over to Crust Pizza for them to serve up think-crust pizza. How cool is that?

Yahava Koffeeworks @Upper Thomson

Give me coffee and no one gets hurt

Give me coffee and no one gets hurt

We have been coming here (a bit less regularly than we would have wanted) for its wonderful coffee. But we have never posted about it. Maybe we didn’t want too many people to know about it, lest it disturb the serenity of this wonderful place… Haha…

We were introduced to Yahava by wifey’s friend and after our first visit, we immediately loved the place!

It’s a very simple setting with large tables and chairs and a set of cozy sofa right at the middle of the cafe. There is a wall-mounted projector and I presumed the area can be turned into a mini-lecture area when they are conducting classes. Yes they do conduct courses through The Yahava Koffee Academy which offers barista training courses for all skill levels. But I seriously doubt anyone could concentrate in such a lovely aromatic place, complete with soft music and soothing lights…

Huay Kwang Thai @Upper Thomson

Moo Ka Ta

Moo Ka Ta

It seems that Moo Ka Ta is the current food darling of everyone!

We tried coming here without reservations previously and were told in a rather matter-of-fact manner that the place is usually almost full with reservations. So we got a name card and I very cleverly SMS for reservations close to 6pm today. And there were still seats available for 7.30pm! Good thing that I made reservations; there was only 1 table left for walk-in when I arrived at around 7pm 😮

The Good Trio 三人行 @Thomson Plaza

This is a new restaurant that just took over the Korean BBQ Chicken and opened recently. Since we don’t know how long it will last, it is best to pay a visit fast! 😛 In fact, we came here twice in the past 2 weeks, you know, just in case

The first time, we reached the restaurant close to 9pm, and when we asked what time the place was closing, the staff gave a very vague reply “… Depending on customers…” Huh? Too new to decide formal closing time? Anyway, slightly re-assured that we did not have to gobble our dinner in a hurry, we grabbed a book of coupons that was placed near the entrance, and headed in!

[closed] November 8 Café & Company @Thomson V Two

Note: November 8 Cafe has ceased operations at this location, and opened another one by the name of Five by Five at Thomson V One.

It was a very hot afternoon and we just had an early lunch. Needed a place to chill, and we decided to head to Thomson V, where we recalled that there were a couple of new cafés that we had yet to try.

A small signboard caught our attention, leading us to a rather spacious November 8 Café & Company! The lovely 2-seater sofa with water flowing down the glass window was beckoning to us 🙂

Despite being half-empty, there weren’t enough menus to go around. But we were quickly served with water while waiting. With the atmosphere being so chillax and it was a lazy Sunday afternoon, we didn’t mind the wait 🙂

Auntie Kim’s Korean Restaurant @Upper Thomson

Seafood pancake

Seafood pancake

I was craving for some Korean pancakes so it was a choice between Parker or Auntie Kim’s. Decided on Auntie because Parker is better for BBQ but Auntie is more well-rounded… Lol! Unfortunately, food standards seemed to have dropped as compared to our previous visit 😦

Auntie Kim’s is along the same stretch of shophouses with UOB, Kampung Chicken, Dino’s, a Japanese restaurant and Ritz Apple Strudel. The restaurant was brightly-lit and there are some al-fresco seats if you prefer to stay outdoors. Deco was quite pleasant and you feel welcomed when you step into the restaurant.

The seafood pancake came really fast after we ordered our dinner! It was quite yummy but we hardly saw any seafood… but there was only one type of pancakes available, so we were pretty sure it was supposed to be seafood pancake… haha! Continue reading
