L’Atelier Tirami Su @The Central

2016-06-14 20.38.16We were looking for coffee after dinner, and had read about this place, but unfortunately the coffee machine was already shut down by the time we reached, around 20 minutes before closing. Hubby had to settle for tea, which turned out to be a rather excellent choice 🙂

  • Classico ($7.20 nett): The classic tiramisu was a very well-balanced light treat, with non of the flavours being overpowering. It was so good, we devoured it within minutes!
  • Cranberry Sunrise ($5): Surprisingly, this was not as sour as we expected; in fact, it was very refreshing and we loved it!
  • Matcha Latte ($5.50): The latte art was so pretty! The drink itself was abit off though; somehow the water and matcha flavour were kinda distinct…

Dee Tongue Thai by Rung Mama @Golden Mile Complex

2016-06-13 13.31.31JY brought us to this restaurant for lunch (after our delicious pre-lunch snack), and it was indeed a good decision!

Food here was affordable and delicious, and service was efficient! What we had:

  • Grilled Pork Moo Yang ($12): This was a rather large portion for the price. The pork pieces were tender and juicy.
  • Thai Pork Omelette Kai Jeow Moo ($10): This had reallly good wok-hei, and we loved it!
  • Stir-Fried Water Spinach Pad Boong Fai Daeng ($8): This dish was a tad too spicy for us… Even after picking out the chilli 😮
  • Pineapple Fried Rice Kao Pad Sa Palot Yai ($7 for small, $12 for large): Very fragrant and had a good balance of sweet and savoury.

Note: Only cash is accepted, and water can be purchased for $1 per bottle.

Heap Seng Leong Coffeeshop @North Bridge Road

imageWe were here especially for the kopi gu you (coffee with condensed milk and butter) after seeing it on JY’s IG!

A very old-school coffeeshop, it seemed like time stood still here.

Compared to brightly-lit signages of the nearby coffeeshop, we almost missed this place because the signage kind of blended into the background 😛

BAKE Cheese Tart @ION Orchard

We finally got a chance to try BAKE Cheese Tarts, thanks to hubby who queued 30 minutes to buy them!

At room temperature, our first bite had a rather fluffy cream cheese feel to it. We thought it was rather like cheese tofu, haha! The pastry was soft. Overall, it was kinda addictive without being overly sweet or salty. We liked it and it’s hubby’s favourite.

Our second tart was heated up for 5 minutes in the toaster oven, and the cream cheese became creamy smooth and flowy. You will definitely like it if you enjoy liu sha bao. The pastry became more crispy. It was just nice for 2 of us to share one, otherwise it might have been too gelat.

We will try the other 2 ways of eating (chilled and frozen) and update here!

Lao San Kway Chap 老三粿汁 @Ang Mo Kio

2016-06-04 09.57.12-1Being the start of school holidays, we figured that the queue today at Lao San Kway Chap would be relatively shorter, so that was where we were headed for breakfast!

At 9.40am, there was just 4 customers ahead of us 🙂 Actually, this place is called 老三粿汁.猪什湯 Lao San Kway Chap & Pig’s Organ Soup, but we did not see anyone order any soup throughout our meal.

We ordered 大肠头, 大肠, 粉肠 (3 types of large and small intestines/offals), 三层肉 Pork Belly, 豆干 Beancurd, 菜尾 Preserved Vegetables and 2 small bowls of 粿 Kway (broad rice sheets) for $17.20.

This was a more mild version of kway chap as compared to some of the heavily salted versions. The braised offals were very well-cleaned, which sometimes is a really rare find, for the cleaning process is very tedious. They were all tender and chewy, and mildly salty with a light sweetness, similar to the broth of the kway. The pork belly was tender too. The beancurd and preserved vegetables complemented the offals well, and we like that the preserved vegetables was not overly salty; in fact, it was sweet and salty. The rice sheets were firm and chewy, and we liked the broth too.

While we were enjoying our food, the queue grew to the width of the coffee shop space 😮 Do come earlier to avoid the crowd!

Four Seasons Chinese Restaurant 文興酒家 @Capitol Piazza

We were here primarily for the duck, so we only ordered another vegetable dish… Mainly because the prices were really high! Here was what we tried.

  • Four Seasons Signature Roasted Duck 文興至尊燒鴨 ($68++ for whole, $36++ for half, $22 for 1 portion): The meat was quite tender, but it was not as crispy or fatty as the version we had in London. In fact, of the half duck that we had, only 2-3 pieces had crispy skin.
  • Poached Spinach with Century and Salted Egg in Superior Stock 金銀蛋菠菜 ($22++): This was just alright, and we thought that it would have tasted better with the usual Amaranth 苋菜. Most of the vegetables options were in the range of $22 to $24, which we thought was really quite pricey…

There were only Oolong or Chrysanthemum tea available ($2.20++ per person), and we opted for Oolong, which was a lovely complement to the duck.

Tanuki Raw @Orchard Central

20160530_123635.jpgwp-1464959669478.jpgBeen here twice this week, had the counter seats both times, and it was fun walking the bartender make the drinks.

Service in general was friendly and pleasant. There was no queue when I was here for lunch, and a 25-minute wait for dinner during Happy Hour.

Here was what we tried so far:

Fu Ju Yuan Vegetarian Restaurant 福俱圆素食餐馆 @Novena Regency

image

I was here for our team lunch, and while we had initially thought that this place was just newly opened, it turned out that it has been opened since Lunar New Year!

For some reason, it appeared to be still not-quite opened whenever we walked past. In fact, most of the seats still had their plastic wrapper intact.

We were the only customers there during lunch today, but we all thought that the food was pretty good! However, the portions were quite haphazard; some large portions seemed smaller than small 😛 Prices ranged from $10 to $20+ per item, depending on size.

The mock meats were all handmade, and pretty good, if not a bit spicy. The cereal beancurd was very fragrant. Overall it was an enjoyable and delicious lunch!
