Kimchi Korean Restaurant @Suntec

Spread of appetizers

Spread of appetizers

We haven’t been to Suntec City for a long while and boy, so many things have changed! There were also many new food options available, so after some consideration, we decided to try out Kimchi Korean Restaurant instead of the ramen restaurant 2 shops away, thinking that we might want to linger a while longer and the ramen shop is probably not so ideal for a long meal. Both had very good online reviews though!

We arrived just before 6.30pm and requested for a table of 5. The waitress responded that she had a table available but we had to clear out by 7.45pm. We declined and was offer an alternative 4-seater with an extra chair, which was fine, since the table was quite huge 🙂

Strictly Pancakes @Prinsep Street

Strictly nothing else

Strictly nothing else

We were looking for early dinner and Strictly Pancakes was just around the corner! We arrived at 5.50pm and were the first in the queue… Within the next 10 minutes, the queue was completely filled 😮 was it really so good?

While waiting for the place to open, I used the 10 minutes to surf the web for food recommendations… It appeared that there were very extreme reviews! Seems like food and service were not so great, while some said it was very nice for the first few bites and it was probably difficult for an individual to finish 3 pancakes (medium). With so much advice from the Web, we decided to share the Garlic buttered prawns with Pancakes.

Auntie Kim’s Korean Restaurant @Upper Thomson

Seafood pancake

Seafood pancake

I was craving for some Korean pancakes so it was a choice between Parker or Auntie Kim’s. Decided on Auntie because Parker is better for BBQ but Auntie is more well-rounded… Lol! Unfortunately, food standards seemed to have dropped as compared to our previous visit 😦

Auntie Kim’s is along the same stretch of shophouses with UOB, Kampung Chicken, Dino’s, a Japanese restaurant and Ritz Apple Strudel. The restaurant was brightly-lit and there are some al-fresco seats if you prefer to stay outdoors. Deco was quite pleasant and you feel welcomed when you step into the restaurant.

The seafood pancake came really fast after we ordered our dinner! It was quite yummy but we hardly saw any seafood… but there was only one type of pancakes available, so we were pretty sure it was supposed to be seafood pancake… haha! Continue reading

Bhutan Day 6 – Bumthang

[Here is the photostream of Bhutan 2013 Day 6, for those who prefer pictures to tell a story. 🙂]

It’s Bhutan National Day today, Happy Birthday Bhutan!

We had Bhutanese buckwheat pancakes for breakfast today 🙂 It was very dense and had a slight bitter taste to it, but it went well with the fried eggs with oozing egg yolks. Dorji said that they usually eat pancakes with chilli.. haha! By now, we were quite good at eating ema datshi during lunches and dinners, but we just couldn’t imagine having chillis for breakfast… We also shared our failed experiences in keeping our fire going, and Dorji promised to help us get some “fire starters”.

Hoshino Coffee 星乃珈琲店 @Plaza Singapura

Hoshino Cofee

Hoshino Cofee

I was around the Dhoby Ghaut region (for a reason no one would be interested to know) and since we have seen long long queues at this cafe, I thought of giving it a try!

Everyone knows that when you come to Plaza Singapura, there’s always queues. The longest (used to anyway, not sure if it still is) is Tim Ho Wan (cheapest Michelin 1-Star dim sum shop). Then there is Tsukada Nojo (chicken collagen hot pot called Bijin Nabe 美人鍋). And then there is Hoshino Coffee.

The decor is very classic and European-like, with dark wood furniture and dim lighting to give that warm and homely feel. Waitresses were attentive (when there is few customers) but could not really handle when the crowd started to swell…

Eat at Taipei 吃在台北 @Raffles City

Braised Minced Pork Rice

Braised Minced Pork Rice

We were at Raffles City again and the queue at Nam Nam (a Vietnamese restaurant at the basement) was still crazy as ever even at 2pm! Can you believe it? It’s not like it’s THW or something…

We were rushing for time, so decided to go to the relatively empty 吃在台北 instead =p

For ~$30, we had…

Jing Hua Restaurant 京華小吃 @Chinatown

It’s a special day, so it’s a special meal! 🙂

We had just finished our massage, and was walking around the Ann Siang Hill/Duxton area to find a place for late dinner. Lots of pubs and bars around, but we decided to come back to this old favourite which we have patronised a few times before. It’s a simple Chinese-styed eatery along Neil Road with a equally simple menu of a few dishes. I guess there’s no need for a complicated menu which is full of everything but rather be good at a few that gets your customers keep coming back. 🙂
