Seasons Provedore @Lygon Street, Melbourne

2016-08-11-14-47-25We were walking along Lygon Street (known as Little Italy in Melbourne) after our morning trip to Brighton Beach, trying to figure out which of the (many) Italian restaurant we should try, when JJ pointed out Seasons Provedore to us, as she had dined here before with good experience.

Trusting her precious good experience, we decided to have our lunch here too.

The Chicken Curry Pie (A$10.50) was a gorgeous huge pie served warmed, with buttery pastry and oh-so-juicy huge chicken chunks filling up the pie entirely, and curry filling up the gaps! This is how chicken pies should be, filled with huge chicken chunks instead of potatoes and frozen peas and carrots. Oh, and this is an award-winning pie!

Minamishima @Richmond, Melbourne

2016-08-10-19-22-32We were put on waiting list for this very popular Japanese restaurant that only serves dinner omakase, and were delighted when we received a call the day before that there was a table available at 7.30pm! We were so excited and decided to give up having dinner at the Queen Victoria Winter Night Market.

It was an easy tram ride to Richmond, and though we arrived 30 minutes ahead of time, we were ushered to our table to rest in the warmth of the restaurant.

There were some specials available today, but we decided to just stick to the standard omakase meal of A$150.

Movida Bar de Tapas @Hosier Lane, Melbourne

We read about this highly recommended Spanish restaurant, and decided to come here for dinner after our city walking tour. It was not yet 6pm when we reached, but the place was already full of people!

The Pancake Parlour @Bourke Street Mall, Melbourne

We finally embarked on our relaxing Aussie trip for 2016!

After a red-eye flight, we made our way to our Airbnb apartment, dropped our bags, and went to meet our friends to have our first meal in Melbourne. And it was pancakes!!!

Garçons @Upper Thomson

2016-08-06 20.54.42We decided to check out the relatively new French restaurant at Upper Thomson (which took over Crust Pizza which was sharing the shop front with One Man Coffee) before we fly off for our 2-weeks break! 😛

Since it was quite near to closing, we decided to just try out a couple of items on the standard menu.

  • 12-hour Belly of Pork ($16.90 nett): The skin is the crispy, but sticks to your teeth type, and the meat was quite tender. We thought that they were a bit too generous with the dressing for the mesclun salad. The potato salad was quite creamy.
  • Charcuterie Platter ($14.90): Our second time trying out duck rillette. This time, it tasted less like tuna mayo, haha! We still liked it with the pickled cucumbers. The duck sausage was quite delicious. The rustic baguette was a bit too hard for our liking.

We were glad that another French restaurant has opened, since the last one had given way to bingsoo. There were actually some monthly and today specials that we intend try sometime soon 🙂

Note: Only cash and NETS accepted here. Water is available freely at the cutlery counter.

Mo’mor Izakaya @Tanglin

2016-08-03 20.41.00We were here for some Japanese-European fusion food because of the Chope offer!

Though there was a larger outdoor seating area, we opted for indoors, thinking that it would be less hot and more quiet. Erm, it was quite quiet when the blender was not in use 😛

It was ladies’ night today, so ladies get a free drink and 3 oysters at promotional prices. The staff said it is men’s night everyday; the men foot the bill everyday. Hahahaha!

To start, we got a Lychee Sake Cocktail and 3 Fresh Oysters to share. We also had a Raw & Cured Platter ($36++), Hamachi Collar ($21.90++), Charcoal Griled Saikyo Miso Ginger Spring Chicken ($24++), Jumbo Crab Meat Linguine ($29, free with Chope offer).

Shisen Hanten 四川飯店 @Mandarin Orchard

2016-08-02 18.46.02JY helped to make reservations here, and so the 3 of us were here at Shisen Hanten (who recently won 2-Star Michelin in the 2016 MICHELIN Guide Singapore) to try some Szechuan food by the Japanese chef Chen Kentaro.

We liked the decorations and the lovely view of the restaurant with the very high ceiling on a very high floor.

Once we were comfortably seated, we were served the menu (with crumbs on them *gasp*). My friend said it was a good sign; for it meant that the restaurant was busy!

Handlebar @Sembawang

Our friend offered to drive us somewhere ulu for dinner, and we figured that the Handlebar was definitely located at an ulu enough place, and almost inaccessible at night without a ride. We did walk to this place during broad daylight before, back when Bottle Tree Village was still around, and it was a fair bit of walk! So much easier with a car 😀

2016-07-30 20.42.44We were seated by one of the benches, and it was fortunate that we had called in advance to make reservations, for it was full house tonight!

  • Blossom Onions ($12++): Crispy and sweet, this was an very enjoyable starter for sharing.
  • Cocaine Wings ($14++): We opted for 3 mild and 3 medium heat levels. Depending on your taste buds, mild was too hot for hubby, medium was very acceptable to our friend, and I thought that medium heat had a lingering spicy aftertaste that lasted quite a while.
  • Righteous Ribs ($28++): The meat was tender, and potatoes were very nice! The side salad was a welcome green for our overly carnivorous meal.
  • Slap Yo Momma Pork Chop ($26++): We opted for a mix of both fried and grilled bone-in pork loin. The fried version was really good, but inside the crispy surface lay a very thick and juicy pork loin. The grilled version was a tad too dry, except for the fatty parts.

We liked the environment, and it was very relaxing to chill here. Water was available freely.

Napoleon Food & Wine Bar @Telok Ayer

Chope had a flash giveaway for noodles and pasta today, and so… We made changes to our dinner plans and ended up at Napoleon 😛

And we ended up realizing that there are so many restaurants in this stretch that we have been wanting to try out 🙂

Putien Restaurant 莆田菜馆 @Kitchener Road

We discovered our expiring Putien return voucher, and very promptly made reservations at the Kitchener Road branch, haha! Also because it just won itself a 1-Star in the 2016 Michelin Guide Singapore!
