The Orange Thimble @Tiong Bahru

Beautiful paintings

Beautiful paintings

After satisfying my porridge craving, it was time to satisfy hubby’s craving. We decided to go to The Orange Thimble!

Not too sure what to make of this place. What we did like was that there were more private seating inside the cafe, so we had an entire corner to ourselves 🙂

The walls were lined with paintings of street views in Tiong Bahru, and we thought that they were just lovely; apparently these pieces were painted entirely using stylus and Samsung mobile phone, Wow!

Ah Chiang Traditional Charcoal Porridge @Tiong Bahru

Nice little corner

Nice little corner

I’m always game for a bowl of good Cantonese porridge and so decided to drag hubby back to try the porridge here after walking past at least 3 times today… Haha!

This coffee shop is wholly occupied by Ah Chiang, and they serve bean curd drink too (but we didn’t order that). Deco is old-school nostalgic feel, very much blends itself into the whole atmosphere of the area here.

Loo’s Hainanese Curry Rice @Tiong Bahru

Long queue!

Long queue!

Lots of dishes to pick

Lots of dishes to pick

We read about this place in the Tiong Bahru Heritage Trail guide (it’s both a walking guide and a food guide) and we absolutely had to try it!!

The stall is located in a coffee shop just opposite Tiong Bahru Food Centre. Although there are other stalls in the coffee shop, none had the long queue! Seems like everyone was here specifically for the curry rice! And who can fault them? Curry rice with the famous Hainanese pork chop, huge piece of bean curd and braised cabbage, all for the price of $4.20!

Drips Bakery Cafe @Tiong Bahru

We were one-third through the Tiong Bahru Heritage Trail (that’s another entry altogether!) and chanced upon this cafe! Enticed by the word “homemade waffles”, we decided to stop here for a short break 🙂

Yang Gui Fei 羊贵妃西安美食 @Chinatown

In this area for an evening meeting, and it was a perfect chance for us to go explore Chinatown!

We walked around the Chinatown area and wandered into the newly-renovated Food Street along Smith Street. With the help of FourSquare, we found Yang Gui Fei, a restaurant specializing in lamb dishes from Xi’an. We were initially quite apprehensive when browsing the menu, as most of the items looked spicy! But we were reassured that most were mildly spicy and we could also request for a non-spicy version, so we bravely entered the restaurant!

Gyoza King @Tanjong Pagar

Big banners

Big banners

We wanted to try our luck at Teppei because I was attending a course nearby but the queue was incredible! And the place is ridiculously small, and with a waiting list of at least 4 months (and the impossibility of getting through the phone once the reservation starts), I am guessing it will probably be in our next life that we get to dine at Teppei. … provided there’s a Teppei in our next life, that is…

So we looked around the corner and here is Gyoza King! The big banners are really very inviting and since there is no queue, we decided this would be a gyoza night!

This is one of the 5 Ramen Keisuke Tokyo outlets, the others being:

  • Ramen Keisuke, Tonkotsu King at Orchid Hotel,
  • Ramen Keisuke, Tori King at Amara Hotel,
  • Ramen Keisuke, Tonkotsu King at Four Seasons at Bugis Village,
  • Ramen Dining Keisuke Tokyo at Suntec City Mall.

Drury Lane Cafe @Tanjong Pagar

Relaxing time

Relaxing time

Hubby was at a seminar today and had plenty of time to spare before meeting me for dinner. He had initially wanted to go to Department of Caffeine but unfortunately, it was closed 😦

He searched high and low for a cafe that didn’t close by 5pm, and finally found Drury Lane Cafe to chill out while waiting for me to knock off.

Seah Im Food Centre @Telok Blangah

Yummy Murtabak

Yummy Murtabak

Before the healthy walk at the Southern Ridges, we gotta have sinful breakfast 😛

The sardines murtabak from Rezki Allah Indian Muslim Food Stall and the teh tarik and kopi-c kosong from the drinks stall next door provided us with the energy needed for the walk 😀

The 10-min wait for the murtabak was very worth, coz the murtabak was hot and crispy, and didn’t taste very oily or fishy, really quite yummy!
