Wagyu Beef Burger

Wagyu Beef Burger

Hubby redeemed a 1-for-1 voucher, so we came here for dinner! It was quite funny that when hubby called up to make reservations, they didn’t even ask for the name or contact details… Which seemed to suggest that there was not going to be a crowd.

Indeed, there was only another 2 customers when we arrived around 7pm. Very quickly, hubby ordered a Wagyu Beef Burger ($23++), while I could not resist ordering the Seafood Aglio Olio ($23++).

Got to say that the seafood was very fresh, and the linguine was cooked quite al-dente. However, this must be the most oily version of aglio olio that I have ever tried… There was a huge puddle of oil left after I had tossed and finished the pasta 😮

Hubby was very happy with his medium rare beef burger! The beef patty was thick and juicy, and the egg yolk was runny and yummy.

For the price, we thought that the portions were quite small, but since we had a 1-for-1, it was still quite worth it 🙂

Burger & Lobster @36 Dean Street

Simple pleasures

Simple pleasures

We had a late start this morning and decided we must go to Burger & Lobster for lunch!

Well, you see, everyone who has gone to London (and back) says this is a must-go restaurant whenever you are in London (together with Duck & Waffle and Patty & Bun)! The food menu is very simple, there are only 3 items. In fact, there isn’t a menu! The waitress simply come by your table and explain the very simple 3 items to the table. For £20, you could order:

  • a Whole Lobster (steamed or grilled),
  • a Lobster Roll, or
  • a Beef Burger

Ah, £20 for a burger? No thanks 😛

Deciding what to eat

Deciding what to eat

We were around the corner at Oxford Street and figured that we should pop by for some burger goodness!

Patty & Bun has become very popular in London with their juicy burgers. There are 2 locations in Central London, one on James Street and one on Liverpool Street. The one on James Street is right in the middle of the famous shopping street, Oxford Street (this is like Orchard Road in Singapore). Which is just as well, because you can always drop by for a burger after your shopping spree!

The Bark Cafe @Upper Changi

Iced and Hot

Iced and Hot

We wanted to go to the Changi Museum, but decided to pop by for some coffee and snacks at the Bark Cafe first, which is just beside the museum 😀

Hubby had a Iced Cafe Latte (~$5) while I decided to try the Bark’s Honey Lemon ($4.50)… yes, feeling a bit under the weather right at the start of our holiday 😦 That did not stop us from ordering the Bark Cafe’s Specialty Chicken Wing ($8.90 for 3) and the Smoked Duck Mini Burger ($16.90) to share.

The drinks were alright, but I thought it was a rather expensive tiny cup of Honey Lemon for that kind of price…

Food-wise, we enjoyed the crispy chicken wings, and the sliders were pretty much standard fare.

We liked the quietness of the place though, and it was a nice little place to hang out during the late afternoon, when the weather was fine, as it was all alfresco dining, so it could get pretty hot.

Earl Grey

Earl Grey

Hubby loitered around this area while waiting for me to knock off, and chanced upon this cafe! So he found a quiet little corner and spent almost 2 hours here, enjoying his cup of Earl Grey ($4.50), while people-watching… Nice place to chill! The seats are quite spread out so there is plenty of privacy for conversations 🙂

Since he already had such a comfortable lounging chair, we decided to stay here for dinner as well.

Market Grill @Telok Ayer

Bar counter with menu

Bar counter with menu

Had a late afternoon meeting nearby and so we decided to explore this area!

Hubby read that the burgers here at Market Grill were excellent; so this was our first choice, with a backup plan to go to the Muffinry in case it was crowded here. Well, you always gotta have a backup plan when reservations are not allowed 🙂

Happy to say that on a Wednesday evening around 7pm, it was only half-full, with the tables mostly filled up, but the bar counter seats completely available. We were allotted a table beside the wall but the seats were very close to the next table. I guess the rent in the city centre is definitely not cheap so they need to squeeze every inch into sell-able space.

Mu Parlour @Holland Village

Happy couple!

Happy couple!

"Life is short, eat dessert first."

“Life is short, eat dessert first.”

After our relaxing massage in Holland Village, it’s time for dinner!

Searched on 4SQ and found this place called Mu Parlour. Wondering what it was, we walked up and down Holland Village but was not able to find it. So we went to CRAFT Bakery to finally try The Craft.

After The Craft and a risotto, we were somewhat still not fully satisfied. We were determined to find Mu Parlour!

So we walked around and around again. Then when we were about to give up near Coffee Bean, and when we looked up, we realised there’s a 2nd Floor just on top of Coffee Bean. And a vertical banner just outside the stairs said “Mu Parlour“! 🙂

[closed] CRAFT Bakery & Cafe @Holland Village

Note: CRAFT Bakery & Cafe has ceased operations at this location.

Got to have kopi...

Got to have kopi…

After a less-than-filling dinner at Cucina, we decided to look for a cafe to nibble more food…

We found the last 2-seater available indoors at CRAFT Bakery & Cafe, and we still couldn’t quite figure out where Mu Palour was, so we decided to stay here instead.

The Craft was sold out 😦 Hubby decided on the Har Cheong Kai burger while I settled for a original Lava Cake. Ok… I did say nibble right? Hubby is not a fan of sweet desserts, so he had to order something savoury right 😛

Actually, I’m also not super huge on sweet desserts, but hey! Lava Cake is supposed to be good here…

Burpz Cafe & Bakery @AMK

Newly opened!

Newly opened!

Nice deco!

Nice deco!

We chanced upon the website while surfing for neighborhood cafés and were pleasantly surprised by this new establishment that had opened only on May this year!

So while we were waiting for our blueberry cheesecake pie to cool down in the fridge, we brought our niece there for an early dinner!

The cafe was small but had both indoor and outdoor seating. Plenty of new magazines available for browsing and free wifi was available (get password from the staff), so we ended up spending a few hours here 🙂

Yang Gui Fei 羊贵妃西安美食 @Chinatown

In this area for an evening meeting, and it was a perfect chance for us to go explore Chinatown!

We walked around the Chinatown area and wandered into the newly-renovated Food Street along Smith Street. With the help of FourSquare, we found Yang Gui Fei, a restaurant specializing in lamb dishes from Xi’an. We were initially quite apprehensive when browsing the menu, as most of the items looked spicy! But we were reassured that most were mildly spicy and we could also request for a non-spicy version, so we bravely entered the restaurant!
