Arròs Negre

Arròs Negre

We had initially wanted to go to 49 Seats (it opened a new branch here in Orchard Central), but the queue was oh-so-long, so we went to Milagro opposite, and what an unexpected find it was!

London Fat Duck @Scott’s Square

We had heard lots of good things about London Fat Duck and met up with Ms J to go check it out! It was about 35 minutes wait after we submitted our order chit on a weekday evening, and we were eating by 7.15pm!

Song Kee Fish Ball Noodles @Upper Serangoon Road

Delicious fish dumplings!

Delicious fish dumplings!

We finally managed to meet up with Ms J for supper at her favourite noodles stall, which was apparently very popular, and especially famous for hand-made fish dumpling “her giao” (鱼饺). When we arrived at the shop close to midnight, we were shocked at the crowd! The tables were sprawling to outside of the shop… and beyond 😮

We quickly made our orders (and were told that the estimated waiting time was around 45 minutes), take our queue number tag, before searching for a table. Cold drinks were self-service, and we just grabbed whatever we wanted from the fridge. Unfortunately, the drinks guy was too busy and though he promised to get us cups of ice later, he totally forgot about it 😦

The wait did not feel too long, especially when we have good company 🙂 Even better, if you enjoy the very retro 1940s-1960s Chinese music? I could imagine my parents singing along!

Bardoque Cafe @Upper Thomson

Blue Oysters

Blue Oysters

We remembered the hugeeeee beef ribs that we had at Bardoque some time back, and were keen to try some of the other dishes.

  • Blue Oysters ($12.50): There were easily 30 oysters fried in batter… yummilicious! It would be better to share this among a few friends though, as we had difficulty trying to finish so many at one go.
  • Lambergini ($28): There were 4 pieces of grilled lamb, so again, it could be a dish for sharing. Hubby enjoyed the lamb very much! As usual, I thought it was quite gamey, and I did not really like the super fatty parts.

While the food prices were definitely reasonable, we discovered that warm water actually cost $2 here 😮 Cold water came in the form of bottled water. The other drinks were comparable to other cafe prices. I guess the food and drinks prices kinda balance out after all.

謝記 Hong Kong Dessert @Jubilee Square

Braised Coconut with Snow Fungus

Braised Coconut with Snow Fungus

Beef with Melted Cheese

Beef with Melted Cheese

Located at a corner of Jubilee Square, this is a cosy little halal eatery that is rather popular. It started with just desserts alone (if my memory did not fail me) but now is also serving mains and dim sum! Somehow it managed to pack around 30 seats within such a small space, really reminding us of Hong Kong! We decided to try a couple of items.

  • 芝味牛柳脆 Beef with Melted Cheese ($4.30): The mozzarella cheese within the minced meat with onions was really stretchy! The slightly burnt bits actually enhanced the taste. Overall, it was quite flavourful, but a bit too oily.
  • 南北杏雪耳炖椰子 Braised Coconut with Snow Fungus ($5.50): Supposed to “cleanse the intestines, promotes body nourishment, cools the body system and dissipates heat”, we thought we needed this post trip, haha! Not overly sweet, this hot dessert was deliciously soothing! The coconut flesh came off easily and was very tender, loved it! The white fungus could have been slightly softer though.

點好味點心燒味專門店 @Tung Chung, Hong Kong

Dinner spread

Dinner spread

We made our way to Tung Chung 東涌 to do some last minute shopping, and also to stay here for the night, so as to catch our early morning 7am flight the next day. It was dinner time by the time we were done shopping, and so out we went looking for food!

The dinner buffet at the hotel did not really appeal to us, so we went over to the food court in the outlet mall, and  點好味點心燒味專門店 Hao Chi Cantonese Dim Sum looked like an affordable option!

We ordered a Roasted Goose BBQ platter (HKD 168+10% service charge) and a Boiled Seasonal Vegetables (HKD 20). We thought that the chicken and char siew was quite good, but of course, the goose paled in comparison 😛 The vegetables was standard fare.

Not too bad as a last meal for the trip, given that there were not really that many options, and we look forward to our next trip 🙂

龍津美食 @Mongkok, Hong Kong

Fish Ball and Pig's Blood

Fish Ball and Pig’s Blood

For our last few trips to Hong Kong, we would always come here for some street foods, and this time it was no exception too 🙂

Located just by the exit of the very long overhead bridge, there was always a crowd in front the this shop. We had a large bowl of 猪红 Pig’s Blood (HKD 20) and a small bowl of 鱼蛋 Fish Ball in Curry Sauce (HKD 10). There were a lot of fish balls, which hubby enjoyed very much. And of course, I totally enjoyed the smooth cubes of pig’s blood! My friends call me a vampire :X

But actually, when mummy first fed me this when I was young, I did not know that it was actually blood… It looked like dark bean curd. So many years down the road, when I finally realised what it was really made of, ah… It was kind of too late to stop 😛

18 Grams @Sheung Wan, Hong Kong

We kept passing by this cafe whenever we exit the MTR at Sheung Wan. Today was the last time we would be travelling by this station, so we figured that this would be our final stop before leaving Hong Kong island!

18 Grams is a chain of specialty coffee that has branches in various parts of Hong Kong. They brew coffee using Pour Over, Syphon, Aeropress, Cold Brew, Clever Cup, Chemex and french press, as well as the usual Expresso coffees.

I wanted a Matcha Latte (HKD 45), while hubby decided to try an original Shakerato (HKD 45). Ah! What a wonderful balance between the sweetness of the milk, and the bitterness of the matcha… Loved it! 🙂 The cold Shakerato looked innocently pretty but was very intense! Woah! I totally woke up with a tiny sip 😮
