Windsor Castle @London

The Queen is in!!

The Queen is in!!

I woke up early this morning because I was going to visit Windsor Castle today!

Windsor Castle is the oldest and largest inhabited castle in the world. It has been the family home of British kings and queens for almost 1,000 years. It is an official residence of Her Majesty The Queen, whose standard flies from the Round Tower when she is in residence. (And as you can see from the picture on the left, The Queen was in the day I visited Windsor Castle! But she didn’t come by and say ‘Hi!’ though… Haha…)

Windsor is still very much a working royal palace. The Castle is used regularly for ceremonial and State occasions. It is here that The Queen often hosts State Visits from overseas monarchs and presidents. There are various sights to visit at Windsor Castle, including The State Apartments, Queen Mary’s Dolls’ House, St George’s Chapel, The Drawing Gallery, The Semi-State Rooms, and the Changing of Guards. Tiong Bahru Heritage Trail

We finally embarked on the Tiong Bahru Heritage Trail! We have been wanting to go on this trail but couldn’t find the time. So on this beautiful Saturday, we managed to squeeze out a day of fun!

This is part of a series of Heritage Trails by National Heritage Board. The Heritage Trails are part of the NHB’s on-going efforts to document and promote the different areas that Singaporeans live, work and play. Many of these areas have rich historical or social memories that we may not be aware of. In developing the trails, NHB works with the respective communities, the schools within the community and the private sector, to document their community’s heritage for posterity.

Bali 2014 Day 4

[Here is the photostream of Bali 2014, for those who prefer pictures to tell a story. 🙂]

We could get used to this!

We could get used to this!

Our holiday was ending! Time really flies…

Today was the Kulungan Festival and most of the staff were dressed in their traditional costumes! The ladies seemed to favour brightly coloured clothing and it was a very pretty sight 🙂

We had confirmed that we would be able to have a free late check-out, as our villa was not booked by anyone else. Lucky us! The other couple that we met yesterday was not so lucky, their villa was booked by another couple, so they had to clear out of their villa by 11am. Since we did not have to worry about where to leave our luggage, we decided to go out for some shopping and lunch after our late breakfast.

Bali 2014 Day 3

[Here is the photostream of Bali 2014, for those who prefer pictures to tell a story. 🙂]

Day 3 in Bali!

Day 3 in Bali!

We woke up bright and early at 6am to prepare to go to the morning market! Hubby had French Toast with Ham and Egg, while I stuck to Bubur Ayam 😛

We were feeling quite tired because of the lack of quality sleep the night before due to the power trip. And this morning, we discovered that our safety deposit box in the room had malfunctioned (could be because of a weak battery) and we could not unlock it! 😮 Luckily, the staff was very prompt in action and managed to help us retrieve our stuff.

We were assured that the maintenance team would come by and ensure that everything was fine.

Bali 2014 Day 2

[Here is the photostream of Bali 2014, for those who prefer pictures to tell a story. 🙂]

Semana Breakfast

Semana Breakfast

We got up at 7am today in anticipation of our half day tour 🙂 and it was quite lovely to have a outdoor shower in the cooling weather! We felt very refreshed 🙂

Breakfast was Bubur Ayam (Chicken Porridge) for me and Balinese Omelette with Herbs, Mushroom, Tomato and Sausage, with wholemeal bread by the side for hubby.  There was an raw egg hidden in the porridge that I was supposed to mix into the porridge, which I realised rather late 😛 But the porridge was yummy! Hubby thought the omelette was decent but not overly fantastic. We also tried the Balinese coffee and tea; the coffee tasted like our kopitiam coffee but I found the tea a bit too weak for my liking. I also enjoyed the fruit platter because of the jackfruit… hehe.

Bali 2014 Day 1

[Here is the photostream of Bali 2014, for those who prefer pictures to tell a story. 🙂]

Excited couple!

Excited couple!

We woke up bright and early at 4am to get ready for our 7am flight! Very excited since it was our first trip to Bali, and also because we had absolutely nothing planned, except for whatever that was inside the 4D3N package that we signed up with Villa Semana Resort and Spa :p Why did we choose Bali? Well… Our expiring air miles could only take us to Malaysia or Indonesia, so we thought Bali was a good option for a short getaway 🙂

Our flight departed on time, and being in the first row of economy class meant that hubby had sufficient leg space. Alas, there were no windows in that row… Food was alright; omelette for hubby and ee-fu noodles for me. We also managed to catch about half a movie… Gotta continue during our return flight 😛

Hong Kong 2014 Day 3

2014-03-08 09.56.21Happy Women’s Day!! Today, we left our rooms much later than planned (because it’s gonna be a long long day!), and headed straight to One Dim Sum 一點心 near the hotel, because we have read good reviews about it (and also because we didn’t had enough of dim sum)!

One Dim Sum is the other One-Star Michelin dim sum place that doesn’t break your wallet (the more famous one is of course Tim Ho Wan 添好運). It opens daily from 11am on weekdays and 10am on weekends. Right from the moment it opens (in fact probably before it opens), a long queue would be formed. Waitresses will start handing out waiting numbers and number of pax on a piece of paper, and the big wait will begin. The restaurant has big glass windows so those waiting can drool on those eating. 🙂

Hong Kong 2014 Day 2

Happy couple

Today being our special day, hubby and I spilt up from the girls. We did quite a bit of research on alternate plans before this trip for this day. Some plans included a side trip to Tai-O if we didn’t make it there on Day 1, day trip to outlaying islands like Cheung Chau etc., and exploring further east of Hong Kong island. But we also thought of doing/visiting something that is not quite ‘popular’ or ‘must-visit’ places in Hong Kong, like Yuen Long. Hubby’s old impression of Yuen Long was that it was a really distant place (he took a bus to Yuen Long on his previous pre-1997 trip and it was a long, long journey). But the MTR map told us that it’s only a 40-minutes ride on West Rail Line. Seeing that its so accessible now, we decided that we should venture into this New Territory for the day!

Hong Kong 2014 Day 1

The prelude:

2014-03-06 08.22.20-1

This was a rather spur-of-the-moment kind of a trip, where the Whatsapp conversation basically went…

  • Me: Scoot having $20 one way ticket sale today and tomorrow.
  • Ms. W: Oooo go where?
  • Me: Got HK, China, Australia.
  • Ms. W: Where u like? U interested?
  • Me: Huh? I all like? Lol
  • Ms. W: Then must chop chop make decision liao.

And so, in less than 3 hours, we booked tickets for 5 pax, including Ms. Y, who first announced that she could make it, and then asked where we were going and who were going -_-”

We also decided to stay at Royal Plaza Hotel 帝京酒店 since it was rather difficult to find big rooms for 3 pax and we had a good experience with this hotel previously.

Bhutan Day 10 – Paro to Singapore

[Here is the photostream of Bhutan 2013 Day 10, for those who prefer pictures to tell a story. 🙂]

Packed breakfast

Packed breakfast

We woke up at 04:00 in the morning to prepare for check out… I was feeling so cold and couldn’t get out of the bed, as usual 😛 So we had a super quick and hot shower, and I remembered to heat up all my clothes before wearing them (that’s about the only usefulness of the electric heater that was located so far away from the bed), so it was all good.

By the time we left our room past 05:20, Dorji and Milan were already waiting for us, with our packed breakfast 🙂
