GRUB @Bishan Park 1

Very unique queuing system

Very unique queuing system

We decided to come here after hearing so much about this place since it opened its doors from May 2013.

There is to be no queuing at the restaurant. Instead, you gotta click for a queue number on a tablet, supply your name and mobile number, and you will be notified via a call when a table is ready for you. You can also check out the URL sent to you via SMS to find out how many tables are ahead of you. We ended up hanging around the restaurant (around the ‘Please do not queue’ signboard no less…) because it was drizzling, and this is the sole building around…

Irodori @Riverview Hotel

The highlight of the buffet

The highlight of the buffet

Today we celebrate 6 years of being together! This called for a celebration at Irodori 😉

Actually, we bought this deal online, but it ended up about the same price as paying via certain credit cards which offer a 15% discount.

Our second time here, and the salmon, swordfish and yellow tail sashimi remained our top favourites!

Chef On Wheels @Singapore Night Festival

It’s our first time to the Singapore Night Festival (SNF)!

The areas were spread between Dhoby Ghaut and Cityhall MRT stations, so we decided to get off at Cityhall MRT and made our way up. We first walked past a street of food stalls, abit like a upmarket pasar malam, where food prices were very upmarket too 😛 Nothing caught our fancy, and it was also quite quiet… so we decided to continue on, hoping for better food options, while quietly keeping a lookout for restaurants along the way… haha!

Korean BBQ Buffet (KBB) @Toa Payoh ERA Building

BBQ cum Steamboat

BBQ cum Steamboat

KBB is directly underneath the second branch of Tim Ho Wan in Toa Payoh ERA Centre!

And no, we didn’t go for dim sum because it was the second day of its soft launch, so it wasn’t exactly opened to public yet 😛

[closed] Crystal Jade Kitchen @Junction 8

Note: The Junction 8 outlet has ceased operations.

Fish Belly Porridge

Fish Belly Porridge

I was still craving for some comforting and delicious porridge before going back to office to work and we ended up at Crystal Jade at Bishan Junction 8. I was feeling abit apprehensive as our previous experience with this place wasn’t very good, and we were worried about the dinner crowd as we didn’t make any reservations…

Turned out that it was fairly easy to get a table for 2 if you weren’t going for the steamboat buffet… haha! We were brought to a table immediately and I happily ordered the Fish Belly Porridge and hubby decided to try Beehoon with Shredded Duck. And of course, something to share – Broccoli with Mushrooms.

[closed] Shin Yeh Bistro @Square 2

Note: Shin Yeh Bistro has ceased operations at this location.

We were actually thinking of having dinner at Zhou’s Kitchen at Novena but it has been replaced by Shin Yeh Bistro! Since it’s also by Tung Lok, and we did enjoy Shin Yeh Restaurant at Liang Court, we decided to give it a try…

Claypot Soon Hock

Claypot Soon Hock

Hubby was enticed by the claypot fish that was served to the table next to us, but we couldn’t find the item in the menu… Finally we asked the waitress and that’s when we were told that there were special items not included in the menu, including the Claypot Fish and Three Cup Chicken. Huh? Why so special? Anyway, the claypot fish is seasonal price and ranges from $5 to $9 per 100g of fish, so ask for the price before ordering!

The whole soon hock was deep fried and very delicious! There were also slices of beancurd, eggplant and mushroom, so this dish was actually quite filling.

Bar Bar Black Sheep @Cluny

No service charge, No GST, No tap water

No service charge, No GST, No tap water

It was a quiet Monday evening and we were the only diners indoors. Got a couple of Caucasians outdoors, so we practically had the entire place to ourselves.

Western, Thai and Indian cuisines are served here, so we ended up ordering a beef Phad Thai, Butter Chicken, Palak Paneer and some garlic naans. There was a beer promotion, so we ordered a glass of Kronenbourg 1664 to share (mineral water costs $1 nett per bottle).

A simple place for meals

A simple place for meals

It’s a Monday evening and I had just finished a walk/jog from workplace to Botanic Gardens, and met hubby at Botanic Gardens for a meal at Cluny Court just beside Botanic Gardens.

Incidentally, Cluny Court is a 2-storey old building located just next to Botanic Gardens MRT, the French Embassy, Serene Centre, and across the road from Adam Rd Hawker Centre. This beautiful building houses a variety of shops, including Cold Storage, da Paolo Gastronomia, Brill, Bar Bar Black Sheep, Simply Bread, and of course relish by Wildrocket!

Bacon and Toast Cup Egg

So it’s the super long weekend with 2 public holidays, Hari Raya Puasa and National Day on Thursday and Friday followed by the weekends! We had intended to go somewhere to chill but we were too late to book anything plus it’s super expensive. What’s the next best thing to do? Have a BBQ party of course!

Presenting Bacon and Toast Cup Egg

Presenting Bacon and Toast Cup Egg!

I invited our SSEAYP friends over on Thursday and we had a ‘BBQ with a Twist’ party. One of the ‘twist’ to the party was this Bacon and Toast Cup Egg that I have seen on TV and friends’ parties that we thought we should give it a try. It turned out yummy-licious as you can see from the picture on the right!

Let me give you the break-down of the steps with detail pictures.

First trip to Geylang Serai!

We finally made it to Geyland Serai after talking about it for a rather long time 😛 We brought our niece along since she has never been there before too! We were initially quite worried about the crowd, especially since it was just a couple of days before Hari Raya Puasa, and after reading that people had to walk in single file in order to move around during the weekend o_O

Many stalls at Haig Road Market and Cooked Food Centre

Many stalls at Haig Road Market & Cooked Food Centre

We managed to reach Paya Lebar MRT before 7pm and basically just followed to the crowd to walk to… the largest pasar malam that we have ever seen…! Perhaps we were too early, or we must have gone to the less popular area, so it was actually quite quiet… which was good for us, since we could enjoy a leisure stroll. Ended up having dinner at Haig Road Market & Cooked Food Centre, and getting some snacks from the pasar malam after that.
