Fuel Espresso @IFC Mall, Hong Kong

Delicious carrot cake

Delicious carrot cake

After our excursion to Lamma Island, the Central Star Ferry Pier was just next to the IFC Mall, so we thought that it would be a great idea to stop by Fuel Expresso for a little perk-me-up!

At 3pm on a Friday, this place was packed to the brim, with many people doing take-away 😮 We waited a short while for a table, and decided on a hot Cafe Latte (HKD 48 nett) and the recommended Carrot Cake (HKD 40 nett). Rather pricey as compared to Singapore!

However, the coffee was really quite good; we enjoyed the strong and slightly acidic flavour, and it had this sweet aftertaste! The carrot cake was moist and not overly dense, in fact, it was slightly fluffy! The cake itself is not really sweet, and the cream cheese topping was of the right amount of sweetness for me… It was a perfect combination when eaten together! What a happy coffee break for us 🙂

泰苑鱼翅海鲜酒家 Tai Yuen Shark’s Fin Seafood Restaurant @Lamma Island, Hong Kong

Today's Special

Today’s Special

After our walk from Yung Shue Wan 榕树灣 to Sok Kwu Wan 索罟灣, we deserved a good lunch!

We also missed the ferry by 15 minutes or so, and it was a good 2 hours wait for the next one. The restaurants were well aware of the schedule too, as one called out to us, telling us that it was a long wait to before the next ferry would come and so we should have lunch while waiting, and another one tried to entice us with their private ferry schedule…

We walked up and down the stretch of restaurants (and seeing the ever popular Rainbow Seafood) before finally deciding on Tai Yuen Shark’s Fin Seafood Restaurant 泰苑鱼翅海鲜酒家 and ordered the set for 2 (HKD 248). It was probably the cheapest set available across all restaurants, and the ala-carte menu also had prices listed, unlike some others, so we felt more comfortable eating here.

南丫島 Lamma Island @Hong Kong

Happy couple

Happy couple

We were going on a hiking trip today at the outlying island Lamma Island 南丫島!

We took the 08:50 ferry from Star Ferry Pier 4 at Central, and it was a quick 25min ferry ride on choppy waters  to Yung Shue Wan 榕樹灣!

Being so early, most of the shops were barely opened at Yung Shue Wan Village 榕樹灣村, but we saw this Sampan Seafood Restaurant filled with people having their morning dim sum. Too bad we had already eaten at Lin Heung earlier 😛

Other than the crowd at the restaurant, the rest of the village was basically a small sleepy town!

蓮香樓 Lin Heung Tea House @Sheung Wan

Established brand in Hong Kong

Established brand in Hong Kong

We stepped foot on Hong Kong again!

Our last trip here was Mar 2014 (Day 1, Day 2, Day 3) and we were Scooting early into HK again this time!

We touched down at 6am, and took no time to breeze through the custom and immigration (since we have no checked-in luggage), bought Octopus Cards, took Airport Express, and changed to MTR! By 7:16am we were already at The Mercer Hong Kong dropping our backpacks as we started off with our first day at the land of dim sums!

Lin Heung Tea House 蓮香樓 is very near the hotel, and we reached at 7:25am but the place was already packed with the morning crowd, especially when it opens it’s doors from 6am everyday!

Yum Saap @Platinum Fashion Mall, Bangkok

We needed to have more Thai food! And since we also needed to shop more, we ended up at Yum Saap inside Platinum Fashion Mall.

Yum Saap is a chain restaurant in Bangkok, and there are quite a few branches in the various shopping malls.

Kuang Heng Chicken Rice @Bangkok

Boiled Chicken and Fried Chicken with Rice

Boiled Chicken and Fried Chicken with Rice

Chicken Satay

Chicken Satay

While our friends were busy with their last minute shopping, we were busy with our last minute eating as well 😛

Just opposite Palladium World Shopping Mall (gotta cross a rather wide road, just follow the locals if you want to jay-walk), there was actually a small stretch of food places, resembling our local coffee shop, without air-conditioning. Kuang Heng Chicken Rice looked quite promising (aka crowded), and we decided to pop in and check it out! Ordered a combination of Boiled Chicken and Fried Chicken with Rice (THB50), as well as 10 sticks of Chicken Satay (tumeric mixed with chicken, THB50).

We were sad (and proud) to say that, chicken rice in Singapore was still better, with more succulent chicken, and more fragrant rice. The chilli sauce here was nice though. Surprisingly, the highlight was actually the chicken satay… It was deliciously tender!

Yura An Café @Central World, Bangkok

Katsu Curry set

Katsu Curry set

Chirashi Don set

Chirashi Don set

We wanted to try something different for dinner, but it was crowded everywhere! Finally, we found a Japanese restaurant that still had available seats, so off we went. We tried the Katsu Curry set, Chirashi Don set (x2) and the Bara Chirashi Don set (x2).

Each set came with miso soup, chawanmushi, salad and pickles. The sashimi slices were quite fresh and the rice was not overly sticky, but somehow, the food did not quite “wow” us.  The curry was of mild spiciness, and the fried pork slices was so-so… Quite a disappointing meal 😦

The total bill for 5 adults came to THB 1783.16, inclusive of 7% VAT and 10% service charge.

Spring by Sanyod @Central World, Bangkok

We had a rather late lunch due to the very heavy breakfast, and finally settled for Spring by Sanyod while we were roaming about in Central World. This appeared to be a Chinese-Thai fusion restaurant. Here’s what we had, and I think the fried items were probably the better ones:

  • Seafood Tom Yum Soup: Not bad at all. There was a good balance of sour and spicy, so I didn’t choke on it the way I sometimes do back in Singapore.
  • Hong Kong Collard Greens with Oyster Sauce: Pretty standard Hong Kong Kailan with oyster sauce
  • Green Curry (Chicken) with Rice: This was just alright… somehow it did not quite have the “kick” to it.
  • Deep Fried Fish Topped with Spicy Sauce: With the Thai spicy sauce, this dish was quite appetizing.
  • Deep Fried Chicken Wings in Red Wine Sauce: Definitely one of my favourites!
  • Deep Fried Shrimp Cakes: Another of my favourites, simple dish with yummy dip.
  • Crispy Fish Maw Spicy Salad: This was very interesting, with rather unexpected texture and taste. The fish maw was deep fried till crispy, much like crackers, while the thinly-sliced squid pieces were deep fried as well, but had a more chewy texture.

With drinks, our total bill for 5 adults came up to be THB1358, inclusive of 7% VAT.

Roast Coffee @Thong Lor, Bangkok

Nice ambience!

Nice ambience!

We woke up early to go to Roast Coffee for breakfast! It was not difficult to find and we reached the place close to its opening hours so we could easily get a table for the 5 of us. The decoration was very chic and well-lit, with full-length glass windows and very high ceilings giving a very spacious interior.

Greyhound Cafe @Siam Center, Bangkok

Chic exterior

Chic exterior

We were finally cafe hopping and hubby had previously done some research, and it seemed like Greyhound Cafe was a good choice!

We had a little difficulty locating the cafe, as Siam Center as a shopping mall was rather big, and there was actually a fashion store by the same name (that’s the origin of the Greyhound name).

Anyway, the cafe was quite near the fashion store, and we immediately fell in love with the environment when we reached.
