Yang Gui Fei 羊贵妃西安美食 @Chinatown

In this area for an evening meeting, and it was a perfect chance for us to go explore Chinatown!

We walked around the Chinatown area and wandered into the newly-renovated Food Street along Smith Street. With the help of FourSquare, we found Yang Gui Fei, a restaurant specializing in lamb dishes from Xi’an. We were initially quite apprehensive when browsing the menu, as most of the items looked spicy! But we were reassured that most were mildly spicy and we could also request for a non-spicy version, so we bravely entered the restaurant!

Gyoza King @Tanjong Pagar

Big banners

Big banners

We wanted to try our luck at Teppei because I was attending a course nearby but the queue was incredible! And the place is ridiculously small, and with a waiting list of at least 4 months (and the impossibility of getting through the phone once the reservation starts), I am guessing it will probably be in our next life that we get to dine at Teppei. … provided there’s a Teppei in our next life, that is…

So we looked around the corner and here is Gyoza King! The big banners are really very inviting and since there is no queue, we decided this would be a gyoza night!

This is one of the 5 Ramen Keisuke Tokyo outlets, the others being:

  • Ramen Keisuke, Tonkotsu King at Orchid Hotel,
  • Ramen Keisuke, Tori King at Amara Hotel,
  • Ramen Keisuke, Tonkotsu King at Four Seasons at Bugis Village,
  • Ramen Dining Keisuke Tokyo at Suntec City Mall.

Kimchi Korean Restaurant @Suntec

Spread of appetizers

Spread of appetizers

We haven’t been to Suntec City for a long while and boy, so many things have changed! There were also many new food options available, so after some consideration, we decided to try out Kimchi Korean Restaurant instead of the ramen restaurant 2 shops away, thinking that we might want to linger a while longer and the ramen shop is probably not so ideal for a long meal. Both had very good online reviews though!

We arrived just before 6.30pm and requested for a table of 5. The waitress responded that she had a table available but we had to clear out by 7.45pm. We declined and was offer an alternative 4-seater with an extra chair, which was fine, since the table was quite huge 🙂

Salt Tapas & Bar @Raffles City

We had wanted to use our voucher for Eat At Taipei and so we met at Raffles City after work today. To our surprise, Eat At Taipei had been replaced by Bangkok Jam! Faintz! The voucher had indicated an outlet here… But I guessed it’s our own fault for not checking out prior to coming down 😦 Oh well, this gave us a chance to check out other places that we have yet to try though 😛

The Good Trio 三人行 @Thomson Plaza

This is a new restaurant that just took over the Korean BBQ Chicken and opened recently. Since we don’t know how long it will last, it is best to pay a visit fast! 😛 In fact, we came here twice in the past 2 weeks, you know, just in case

The first time, we reached the restaurant close to 9pm, and when we asked what time the place was closing, the staff gave a very vague reply “… Depending on customers…” Huh? Too new to decide formal closing time? Anyway, slightly re-assured that we did not have to gobble our dinner in a hurry, we grabbed a book of coupons that was placed near the entrance, and headed in!

HKc 港味軒 @nex

Roast Duck Noodle

Roast Duck Noodle

Running out of options at nex and this newly-opened HK café caught our eyes, so we decided to give it a try. The interior is a very typical Hong Kong café but the ordering was not as efficient as you could get in Hong Kong. When we waved at a waitress, she came over reluctantly to collect our order sheet. Then she strolled over to the cashier counter and just passed the sheet to the cashier, who was busy chatting/gossiping with her colleague. She gave us an impression that this was not her job and that the cashier should have come over. Later when the cashier punched in our orders and gave us the summary, I found that one of the items was missing. So I had to walk over the cashier counter to repeat my orders, and she was still chatting/gossiping with her colleagues. Why can’t life be simpler? Continue reading

Auntie Kim’s Korean Restaurant @Upper Thomson

Seafood pancake

Seafood pancake

I was craving for some Korean pancakes so it was a choice between Parker or Auntie Kim’s. Decided on Auntie because Parker is better for BBQ but Auntie is more well-rounded… Lol! Unfortunately, food standards seemed to have dropped as compared to our previous visit 😦

Auntie Kim’s is along the same stretch of shophouses with UOB, Kampung Chicken, Dino’s, a Japanese restaurant and Ritz Apple Strudel. The restaurant was brightly-lit and there are some al-fresco seats if you prefer to stay outdoors. Deco was quite pleasant and you feel welcomed when you step into the restaurant.

The seafood pancake came really fast after we ordered our dinner! It was quite yummy but we hardly saw any seafood… but there was only one type of pancakes available, so we were pretty sure it was supposed to be seafood pancake… haha! Continue reading

Brauhaus Restaurant & Pub @United Square

We have always walked past this place but never got the chance to try the food. It’s either the place was crowded, or we were attracted by something else along the way 😛

Today, after getting disappointed by a new place (why invite us to try and not bothering to inform in advanced that half the food choices are sold out?), we decided to come here since there was no crowd.. Haha!

Live music started at 8pm, so we got to enjoy some music while we waited for our food. It’s quite a nice place to chill, and the singer tonight had a rather soothing and pleasant voice. This place boosts of the longest beer menu in Asia with more than 150 brands from all over the world, ranging from Asia to Europe to US. However, we weren’t in the drinking mood today 🙂

Cucina @Holland Village

I think we are running out of food options at Holland Village! Despite us attempting to eat healthier because we were nursing not-so-good tummies from last night’s dinner, we ended up at Cucina Authentic Italian Restaurant for pasta…. Because we have tried almost all other food options along this stretch :p

This address seems to be for Amici Italian Restaurant, and hubby did saw the word ‘AMICI’ on the chef’s apron. Whatever it is, the place looks cosy enough with soft lighting and an earthly feel with rough bricks lining the wall. Not too many seats but comfortable enough to let guests mingle around. The kitchen has a glass window and we can see the chefs preparing the food from our seats.

Wild Honey @Mandarin Galleria

Busy Orchard Road outside

Busy Orchard Road outside

Went to run errands in town and found a breakfast place! The queue system was similar to Grub @ Bishan, and hubby was pleasantly surprised that the system knew his name after he keyed in his mobile number to join the queue. Turns out that both Wild Honey and Grub are under the same management!
