Clinton Street Baking Co. & Restaurant @Purvis Street

We woke up bright and early today, because we had reservations with Royal China for an early lunch… And since we were to be in this area, might as well wake up a bit earlier and check out Clinton Street Baking Co. & Restaurant (the renowned bakery from NYC famed for its pancakes, burgers, biscuits and other freshly-baked goods), which hubby had been wanting to try out.

So here we were, at 8.30am, at the half-full restaurant. Looks like there were many early risers 🙂

The restaurant is brightly-lit and together with the white walls and high ceiling gives a very roomy atmosphere. It is sufficiently big but people have been flocking here (at least for these first few months of soft opening) so there’s always a queue. Breakfast menu is served all-day and lunch menu (with the award-winning buttermilk fried chicken & waffles, house made burgers with hand-cut fries and special handcrafted mocktails) is served from 11:30am.

Pepper Steakhouse & Bistro @Great World City

I was attending a conference in Grand Corpthorne Waterfront Hotel and so we ended up in Great World City for dinner!

We were just walking around and sighted Pepper Steakhouse which looked promising (plus there is a One-For-One starters promotion… 🙂 hehe).

I wanted to order a lamb dish but they ran out of lamb. So we ordered:

  • Crispy Blue Swimmer Crab Cake ($12) – The crab cake was done perfectly with the outer crush crispy and the patty juicy.
  • Australian Grass-Fed Beef Carpaccio ($10) – The beef slices were so thinly cut and marinated with vinegar and olive oil to give a delectable crunch when you bite it in with the cheese flakes and arugula. Very nice indeed!
  • Australian Grass-Fed Angus Tenderloin ($36) – The beef was prepared medium-rared but you don’t get the blood oozing all out. Paired with the mushroom sauce and we got a satisfying piece of meat. The steak-cut fries were free-flowed but we could hardly finish the first helping. 🙂
  • Caramelized Kurobuta Pork Chop ($28) – The pork chop was just normal.

Pontini @Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel

After so long, we finally tried it!!

While we were still dating, my then-boyfriend said that he wanted to bring me to this authentic Italian restaurant, Pontini. Boyfriend became hubby for 6 years… And today, we finally had the chance to go 😀

Pontini has undergone several changes since those days but it remains one of the top Italian restaurants around. The decor was inviting and full of warmth with tables far apart enough to not give a congested environment. The lighting was soothing and provided a cosy atmosphere for casual conversations among diners.

Serangoon Gardens Market & Food Centre @Serangoon

We have been to Serangoon Gardens and to the famous Chomp Chomp Food Centre for several times but not to this market & food centre.

Located just before the circle, hubby remembered a famous Char Kway Teow stall there years ago (but alas it has closed already, because the old couple retired). The food centre has been completely refurbished and it is now more airy, bright and clean!

So today, we decided to do a small ride and small walk to Serangoon Gardens and have some local brunch! Found quite a few gems 🙂

I Want My Noodle 见面就笑 @Shaw Centre

There are so many food options at Shaw Centre new wing!

Decisions, decisions, and finally we decided that I Want My Noodle sounded 霸气 enough to get our first vote. We decided to share My Noodle with Double Roast ($12.50 nett), add Pebbles Dessert for $2.50 (usual price $3.90), and Fried Wings ($7.90).

The noodles was quite delicious! Reminded us of the curly type of instant noodles, but a thicker version. Both the char siew and sio bah were very flavourful, and we loved the well proportioned meat and fats; not too much fats, but enough for flavours. It would be perfect if the meats could be just a little bit more tender.

The flourless fried wings were already well-marinated, without needing the additional sambal chilli. The meat was tender and juicy!

I was a bit apprehensive to try the dessert, as it looked like it was made from mochi. Well, there was a little bit of the mochi element in it, but the flavours were oh-so-good and fragrant! We had to dust off the icing from the pebbles though, as the artificial sweetness was overpowering the natural sweetness of the sweet potato and purple potato balls.

Note: only cash or NETS payment is accepted here.

Curious Palette @Prinsep Street

Mr G recommended this place, so we strolled past while making our way to the National Museum of Singapore. Oooh, there were still some seats available! So we went in for more caffeine 😛

Hubby could not resist the waffle, and so we got one to share 🙂

  • Piccolo Latte ($4++): Strong and smooth
  • Home-made Seven Spiced Chai Latte ($5.90++): The name was really promising, but the taste was a let down 😦 There was barely a hint of any spice *sigh*
  • Waffle with Yogurt and Fresh Fruits ($12.50++): This place is opened by the same owner as Strangers Reunion (which we just discovered), so the food was essentially the same…. As we realised when the waffle came looking exactly like the one we had previously, haha! At least it is consistently good 🙂

Water was free and by the bottle at each table.

Teng Bespoke Japanese Vegetarian Dining @Sunshine Plaza

We were intending to go check out Clinton Street Bakery, but passed by Sunshine Plaza and decided to pop in to see if Victor’s Kitchen was available. Oh well, the queue was very long!

We then recalled seeing a Japanese vegetarian restaurant, that we also wanted to try out. The restaurant was split into 2 sides, and has apparently expanded beyond this, as one of staff guided the customers to somewhere out there to their tables 😮 So popular! We were lucky to secure a table as some customers were leaving. We decided to try some of the ala carte items:

Just Want Coffee @Everton Park

We popped over to Just Want Coffee for coffee, as we had read good reviews online 🙂

Hubby tried Ethopia ($7 nett), which had a soft citrus acidity, sweet Jasmine body, with aromatic mango tea finish (according to the menu), and I decided on a Tiramisu ($7).

The coffee indeed had lovely citrus notes to it, and it was very aromatic! The aftertaste swirled inside our mouths, and it was absolutely delightful!

The Tiramisu had a “high rum content” warning in the menu, and it truly lived up to its warning. Served freezing cold, it was yummylicious!! Super high!!!

There was free WiFi available, and an air purifier right by the entrance, so we hid here away as the PSI index continued to climb… There was also a collection of books here, and I read the very funny The Three Little Pigs Lah (favourite Singlish tales) peppered with Singlish all over!

Note: Only cash payment are accepted here at both places. You can help yourselves to the jugs of water at the station next to cashier counter.

Batterworks Bakery & Cafe @Everton Park

[UPDATE: Batterworks has ceased operation at Everton Park wef 18 Oct 2015]

Super loooong weekend is here, and we went on a staycation in our sunny island amidst all the haze!

This was our first stop of the day and we were the first customers at Batterworks! We started our day with:
