Cafe Hopping Series: Flee Away Cafe @Dunlop Street

Let's Flee Away!

Let’s Flee Away!

Bright and cheery!

Bright and cheery!

Today we were going cafe hopping with Ms JY!

First stop was to Flee Away Cafe for brunch/lunch. Initially we were worried that it might be crowded, but our worries were unfounded – only another table was occupied when we arrived around 12:45pm.

Joe & Dough @Orchard Gateway

Newly opened at Orchard Gateway

Newly opened at Orchard Gateway

“Life is too short for bad coffee”, says the big signage at Joe & Dough, and the available sofa seat was beckoning to us. We figured that to have the courage to put up such a signage, the handcrafted coffee must be pretty good right?

[closed] CRAFT Bakery & Cafe @Holland Village

Note: CRAFT Bakery & Cafe has ceased operations at this location.

Got to have kopi...

Got to have kopi…

After a less-than-filling dinner at Cucina, we decided to look for a cafe to nibble more food…

We found the last 2-seater available indoors at CRAFT Bakery & Cafe, and we still couldn’t quite figure out where Mu Palour was, so we decided to stay here instead.

The Craft was sold out 😦 Hubby decided on the Har Cheong Kai burger while I settled for a original Lava Cake. Ok… I did say nibble right? Hubby is not a fan of sweet desserts, so he had to order something savoury right 😛

Actually, I’m also not super huge on sweet desserts, but hey! Lava Cake is supposed to be good here…

Omakase Dinner @A secret restaurant

So we were trying so hard to get seats at Teppei that we gave up. Then came G’s friend, JY, who happened to know a chef in a Japanese restaurant, and she had seats for Omakase dinner! She very generously offered to bring us along and we were so excited (even though it’s not Teppei, haha…)!

Whale & Cloud @Rochor

A hidden passageway?

A hidden passageway?

Many will seek but not all shall find

That’s written on their Instagram profile page.

And their exact address is 48¾ Niven Road (kind of reminds you of the famous Platform Nine and Three Quarters at King’s Cross Station in London featured in a very long movie series). 🙂

This is a highly secretive cafe hideout with so much interesting stuff about it, that was introduced to us by G’s friend.

Maybe secretive is not the word, because I don’t believe they intended to be secretive. It’s only that the location is kind of obscure and you need patience to find it (maybe not now, since there has been tons of post of exact directions, complete with picture guide, to lead you to the place). 🙂

There’s more to this place than meets the eyes…

Sumiya Charcoal Grill Izakaya @Orchard Central

High tabletop

High tabletop

Needed to go Orchard for an escape game in the afternoon, so we stopped by Sumiya Charcoal Grill Izakaya because we didn’t managed to dine here the last time.

This restaurant belongs to the RES Group, the same group that also owns Ichiban Sushi, Shimbashi Soba and the whole lot of 10 Japanese restaurants (Shokutsu 10) in nex. We thought we would be able to use our Ichiban rewards card but we can’t; they have their own rewards card. 🙂

The deco is quite modern with high tables and chairs which are not typical of Japanese restaurants.

As part of the welcome (and farewell, I guess) a waitress will strike a drum whenever customers enter (or leave) the restaurant. It actually startled us because there wasn’t a lot of customers at this time when we were there. Haha…

NamNam Noodle Bar@Plaza Singapura

Nam Nam!

Nam Nam!

We wanted an early dinner before heading to Stephanie Sun’s concert (scream!) and there were empty seats at Nam Nam… Finally! The queue at Raffles City always made us wonder if the food was really so good, or if it’s because the prices were very reasonable for a place in town area.

We were happy to have seats by the counter in front of the kitchen area, so we got our seats immediately. We ordered a Pho Beef Steak Slices ($8.90) and Grilled Chicken, Egg Omelette and Chicken Floss Banh Mi (baguette $7.90).

Koh Grill & Sushi Bar @Wisma Atria

Long queue even for paying!

Long queue even for paying!

Today I flew out of office on the dot in an attempt to get seats at Koh Grill & Sushi Bar.

We had wanted to try out this place so much for a while already, as our students kept posting very yummy photos in Instagram, but the queue was always so horrendously long… The eatery is within the food court on the upper floors of Wisma Atria and is always hustling and bustling, also because there is a teppanyaki eatery just neighbour to it.

When I reached at 6.20pm today, luckily there was no queue and I was able to get seats immediately 🙂 Very excited! Especially when the queue started growing 10 minutes later…

From the menu, the selection of sushi seemed very exotic! We had a hard time figuring out which ones to try…

Kimchi Korean Restaurant @Suntec

Spread of appetizers

Spread of appetizers

We haven’t been to Suntec City for a long while and boy, so many things have changed! There were also many new food options available, so after some consideration, we decided to try out Kimchi Korean Restaurant instead of the ramen restaurant 2 shops away, thinking that we might want to linger a while longer and the ramen shop is probably not so ideal for a long meal. Both had very good online reviews though!

We arrived just before 6.30pm and requested for a table of 5. The waitress responded that she had a table available but we had to clear out by 7.45pm. We declined and was offer an alternative 4-seater with an extra chair, which was fine, since the table was quite huge 🙂

Skinny Pizza @Plaza Singapura

Pumpkin Salad

It was shopping night with our niece and we ended up at Plaza Singapura! Long queues everywhere and we spotted a relatively shorter queue at Skinny Pizza so off we went to queue!

We got seats rather quickly and ordered a pumpkin salad, meatball Neapolitan pizza and turkey ham pizza.

The pumpkin bits and macadamia nuts were toasted and still warm when served, very addictive!
