Pepper Steakhouse & Bistro @Great World City

I was attending a conference in Grand Corpthorne Waterfront Hotel and so we ended up in Great World City for dinner!

We were just walking around and sighted Pepper Steakhouse which looked promising (plus there is a One-For-One starters promotion… 🙂 hehe).

I wanted to order a lamb dish but they ran out of lamb. So we ordered:

  • Crispy Blue Swimmer Crab Cake ($12) – The crab cake was done perfectly with the outer crush crispy and the patty juicy.
  • Australian Grass-Fed Beef Carpaccio ($10) – The beef slices were so thinly cut and marinated with vinegar and olive oil to give a delectable crunch when you bite it in with the cheese flakes and arugula. Very nice indeed!
  • Australian Grass-Fed Angus Tenderloin ($36) – The beef was prepared medium-rared but you don’t get the blood oozing all out. Paired with the mushroom sauce and we got a satisfying piece of meat. The steak-cut fries were free-flowed but we could hardly finish the first helping. 🙂
  • Caramelized Kurobuta Pork Chop ($28) – The pork chop was just normal.

Pontini @Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel

After so long, we finally tried it!!

While we were still dating, my then-boyfriend said that he wanted to bring me to this authentic Italian restaurant, Pontini. Boyfriend became hubby for 6 years… And today, we finally had the chance to go 😀

Pontini has undergone several changes since those days but it remains one of the top Italian restaurants around. The decor was inviting and full of warmth with tables far apart enough to not give a congested environment. The lighting was soothing and provided a cosy atmosphere for casual conversations among diners.

Teng Bespoke Japanese Vegetarian Dining @Sunshine Plaza

We were intending to go check out Clinton Street Bakery, but passed by Sunshine Plaza and decided to pop in to see if Victor’s Kitchen was available. Oh well, the queue was very long!

We then recalled seeing a Japanese vegetarian restaurant, that we also wanted to try out. The restaurant was split into 2 sides, and has apparently expanded beyond this, as one of staff guided the customers to somewhere out there to their tables 😮 So popular! We were lucky to secure a table as some customers were leaving. We decided to try some of the ala carte items:

Din Tai Fung @nex

There was this promotion on Amex cards for DTF so we decided to come here for dinner after running out of options (aka too lazy to think, haha…)

  • 上海醉鸡 Original Shanghainese Drunken Chicken ($8++): This was a cold dish that we always order at DTF and it didn’t fail us. Chicken was tender and juicy in the wine sauce.
  • 干拌菜肉馄饨 Vegetables and Pork Wanton tossed in well-seasoned Chicken Broth ($8.5++): Hubby wanted some wanton and this was pretty good.
  • 酥脆腐皮虾饼 Crispy Golden Prawn Pancake ($10.30++): A tad too oily.
  • 小笼包 Steamed Pork Dumplings ($7.80++ for 6 pieces): The usual which didn’t fail too.
  • 松露小笼包 Steamed Truffle & Pork Dumplings ($5++ per piece): Something different that we tried. The truffle smell permeated the dumplings but the skin was a tad too thick.
  • 蒜炒菠菜 Stir-fried Spinach with Garlic ($10.80++): Another staple and refresher to the palette after all the meat.
  • 辣蟹鲜肉包 Steamed Chilli Crab & Pork Bun (S2++ per piece): Very spicy and hot!
  • 茉莉花茶 Hot Jasmin Tea ($1++ per pax, free flow)

Food was generally ok, and DTF maintained their usual consistency in food taste and quality.

Liang Peng Bak Kut Teh 亮憑肉骨茶 @IMM

Our legs were near breaking point by the time we reached IMM Building, so we decided that it was time for an early dinner. This place looked rather lively, so we thought of trying out some of the stuff:

  • 龙骨肉骨茶 Loin Ribs Soup ($9.50+ GST): This rib meat is supposed to be superior to the normal pork rib. Somehow, this one had tougher meat than usual. The soup was very very peppery, and did not have much of other flavours.
  • 卤鸭 Quarter Braised Duck ($15+): Errr.. We were deciding between the pig’s trotters and braised duck, and decided on the latter, after doing an eyeball survey of what other diners were having. It seemed like no one was having the pig’s trotter. This turned out to be a huge mistake, because the duck meat was so, so dry! We were lucky enough to get the quarter with the drum stick, so that portion was not as dry as the rest of the meat… Sigh.
  • 豆干 Beancurd ($2+): This was probably the best item of the meal.
  • 卤大肠头 Braised Pig’s Big Intestines ($6+ for small portion): The intestines were cleaned properly, which was good, but they were not flavourful enough.

The gravy used in all the side dishes had a strange 沙茶 taste to it, and we did not really like it.

Canto Paradise 樂天小香港 @AMKHub (again)

We were back again because of the Groupon offer, and so was the rest of the world 😛

Luckily we were there around 7pm, so it was a short 10 minutes wait. The queue just kept growing after that. This time, we tried the following:

Leong Ji Seafood 量記海鮮豐食館 @Punggol Settlement

We have been wanting to check out Punggol Settlement, but unfortunately, it was really out of the way for someone without a car, and our friends did not really express interest in going 😦 So when Mr L suggested a double date, we readily agreed!

It was… REALLY Far!

The views were also sadly disappointing, partly due to the haze, and partly because the sea view was really, erm, just looking at the construction. Aiyah, I had thought that the views were lovely! Luckily the couple didn’t take my suggestion to have some pre-wedding photo shoot earlier this year.. Haha…

Luxe Singapore @Keong Siak Road

I was around this area waiting for hubby, and was looking around for dinner places. There were actually many food choices around this area, and I decided on Luxe because… The signage was appealing and the interior looked very welcoming!

Luxe originates from Sydney, Australia and this is their first overseas restaurant-bar, serving contemporary Australian cuisine with a Southeast Asian twist.

So we ordered:

  • Burrata with Cabbage Relish and Grilled Broccoli ($16+GST): This was surprising light and blended very well with the relish.
  • Grilled Barramundi with Rojak Flower Butter Sauce ($36+): We totally loved this fish! It might be a little low in the quantity, but definitely up the scales in terms of quality! The skin was oh-so-crispy! The fish was very fresh and cooked to perfection, and the sauce complemented it really well. An excellent recommendation by the staff!
  • Luxe Burger with Grass-fed Beef, Cheese, House-made pickles, Lettuce and Fries (replaced fries with salad, $28+): Charcoal bun was used and it kind of gave an interesting feel to the burger concept. The patty was juicy and hubby enjoyed it very much!
  • Freshly Cold-pressed Green Apple Juice ($6+): Surprisingly sweet, it was quite refreshing.

This was quite a nice place to chill out and we had a lovely time here 🙂

Dazzling Cafe @Capitol

Truffle Mushroom Risotto

Truffle Mushroom Risotto

Cheddar Cheese Danish Honey Toast

Cheddar Cheese Danish Honey Toast

There were so many restaurants and cafe at the new Capitol Piazza and we thought Dazzling Cafe looked quite promising with the huge crowd. We were lucky that there was still a table for 2, and were ushered in, ahead of the larger groups who were still waiting for a table.

It was when we were seated that we realised that everyone seemed to be here for the toast 😛 But, first, a proper dinner for us 🙂
